Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including June 30 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" " or "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong. Possible fraud scenario: API returns during purchase - credit to @himalpatel. Live chat advised that if you faced the above fraud scenario message, you need to use your friends details (aka a completely different details) to order
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Is there around 500 GB/year prepaid plan like kogan, libera?

  • Any tips for someone that thought 170gb would be enough on a 12month sim (boost)

Or do I just start jumping sims every 28 days again?

    • Do you have a dual physical SIM phone?

Do you have a phone that can have a physical SIM and an eSIM active?

      • Oh yes, I have an iPhone XS. Which I believe can activate an esim card!
        Did it whilst in Japan

        • I used to have an iPhone XS. You can have 1 physical SIM and 1 eSIM active at once.

      • I’ve got 6gbs left that was meant to last until the 1/12 haha.

        • I’d recharge early once your 6GB is up.

You could consider an amaysim eSIM for $99 for 12 months as your main phone number then activate these for profit Boost SIMs for extra data.

          • @sween64: Thanks for the tip.
Is it simple to have two “sims” running at the same time?

Can you set up so one only runs data and the other to receive calls on your regular number?

            • +1

@Owgasm: Yep. You can either set different contacts to be called from different numbers. You can have one set for data and the other for fallback data.

    • +2

Depends on what you want to spend and what coverage you want (Telstra/Optus/Vodaphone). Currently I have Catch mobile that cost me $90 (might have been less with a cashback) that was usually $120 for for 60GB+ bonus 60GB on set up using the optus network. Planned to switch at 12months but they offered the $90 recharge with bonus 60GB. If you generally use wifi to watch videos its enough. If you use it early just port to who ever has the best deal or use a deal like this to port out then back in. As long as you are getting 9 months out of the 12 months I feel its worth the small inconvienience to port.

      • I’m in Sydney, I find Vodafone really bad so I stay away from them.

I usually switch between Amaysim and Boost. Occasionally Kogan when they’re running a deal.

  • Good find! What is it like porting from Telstra to boost and vice versa these days? Can one use these starter packs to port?

    • You sure can but you’ll need to do it over chat as it’s still (essentially) Telstra.

      • Oh, that's sad. Not a fan of chat. Thanks for the confirmation

        • I’ve done two of them and it works quite well.

  • +1

Can you buy it again? Had trouble activating the last two I bought. Ended up getting support involved but unable to resolve the issue.

    • You can buy multiple. The limits are reasonably high. No more than 5 per credit card per day for example.

  • +1

Gotta love it when the tracking comes through instantly. Thanks CR!

  • thanks op!

  • What happens if you don’t activate within 30 days? I’ve read in older posts that this doesn’t matter?

I’m switching out of Boost to Telstra in a week so I won’t be able to activate this until maybe 35 days later.

    • +1

Well someone might tell you it's ok but then you may not get cashback because CR terms say 30 days.

  • Finally able to purchase it again? After months of errors

    • +2

Is that a question or a statement?

      • +1

Kinda both. I was able to purchase and was wondering if anything changed on Boost's end as well as wondering if others have experienced the same.

Take it how you want :)

  • Thx OP. Just bought one for my hotspot phone.

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

Buy price : cashback ratio is slowly increasing.

  • Glad I waited!

  • Has anybody received the order confirmation email from Boost?

I have received the CR tracking emails, but I ordered 3 times and no emails from Boost

Edit: Boost emails slowly coming in now

  • Dammit I just bought it yesterday

    • Haha, patience is a virtue.

      • For a free burrito I'll get another 😂

  • Is it safe to assume that the Bonus data offer would be extended and we dont need to activate by 25-Sep to claim the bonus data?

    • -1

There are no guarantees in life. Having said that, we all know that Boost will never let you down. And, let’s not forget that assume makes an ass out of u and me. So stay safe, and enjoy

    • A customer chat rep told me yesterday it will be 10gb activation data (+ usual inclusion, either 35 or 45gb can't remember) after the 25th

  • Must be my lucky day, was able to purchase 1 now without any issues

    • same~
      finally.. 😭

  • Error again for me, anyone else?

    • -3

If at first you don’t succeed, try summoning jv for some sage advice

  • I only got the Cashrewards tracking email and not the Boost Mobile email after purchase. Did you guys also receive only 1 email?

    • I received both. Boost straightaway and Cashrewards tracking a few minutes later

      • Oh, I just received the boost email now. There was about an hour gap

  • Received today, have exp date of 2025, Do I still need to activate within 30 days?

    • +1

To qualify for cashback and bonus data, yes.
