Original Officeworks Trade-in program post

Steps:
1. Initiate a trade-in request and get the value as Officeworks gift cards today (delivered via Prezzee).
2. Pay for an iPhone 15 in store on Friday, use your trade-in gift cards plus ultimate whatever, as many as you want (no limit at Officeworks).
3. Fill the claim form.
4. Get $250 Officeworks gift card.

It only works on Friday because you can only pay for it on Friday in store, when it’s no longer considered ‘preorder’. Gift cards can’t be redeemed online.

Edit: it is only for trading in iPhones 12, 13 and 14. I got $310 for my lovely iPhone 12 mini now plus $250 later. Doubt I could sell it for $560 on the second hand market (maybe in a few years as a vintage tiny phone). Combined with the 15% ultimate gift card deal it’s quite sweet.

Edit 2: if you are really unsure, the 15% off ultimate deal is on until 26th. Monitor this thread and buy the gc only when you have read some confirmed cases here. But you need to do the trade-in request pretty soon because that takes time to process. Cancel the trade-in if this deal is not what we think it is.

Edit 3: my gc arrived a day or so after the trade-in request, it might take some time for yours. It will arrive. Also allow for the possibility of the team being ozbargained.

Edit 21/9/23 11:37: my local OW just called me back and informed me of the stock levels. They don’t have the colour I’m after, so I’ll have to go in and place an order tomorrow using the gift cards.

Edit 22/9/23 11:16: got the phone, submitted the claim and received the receipt for the trade-in bonus. Two things:
1. If you have OnePass but it doesn’t come up automatically after scanning Flybuys, bring up your barcode and scan that too.
2. The Prezzee gc needs to be manually entered into the machine. Find someone who knows how to do it. It can be done.

Final edit:
You can’t place orders on the variant that isn’t available in store. For example, my local only has access to placing orders on the black or blue.
There is a 30 day return policy on tech, OnePass’ one year thing doesn’t apply.

        that means:

        1) send in the trade in request
        2) receive the gift card of the trade-in value (can it be used during step 3 below?)
        3) pre-order online (between 15-22/9), or order/purchase in store on 22/9
        4) send in the invoice/order details before 29/9
        5) send in the device before 13/10
        6) receive the $250 before 1/11

        Am I missing or misunderstanding something?

          yes thats what i was thinking… so iphone 13 128GB gets me $600 and i can only use the $600 to buy the new iphone 15.

          then once i got the new iphone 15, i return the iphone 13 and get $250 credit later to be used for whatever.

            @frugalftw: But you have to return your old device before the $250 gift card can be issued. So if you want to buy iphone 15 in store using the $250 giftcard there will be a period where you will have no phone at all.

    Iphone 15 pro 128gb = 1847 AUD
    1847 - 1020 ( 14pro 128gb) = 827 AUD
    827- 15% gc = 703 AUD
    703 - 250 Ow gift card = 453 AUD

    It seems like you're planning to upgrade your iPhone from 14 pro to 15 pro, but I don't think it's worth the cost of 453 AUD.

      Sim packs are not considered gift cards in Colesworth afaik (can use gc to pay for them). I’d think the same rules apply. But OW doesn’t do sales on starter packs, does it?

      Doubt it. All sorts of stuff can happen on release day. Say someone posted a negative review, you read it, decided to keep your phone and upgrade next time. They don’t charge you, just an authorisation on your card for the value of the credit.

    Thoroughly check to see if you are better off using a buyback offer and the Ultimate Gift Card deal instead. You get money in your account, not a ow gift card. You can pay for the full value of the iphone with the 15% off gift card not just the difference. With an iphone 14 pro 256gb traded in and buying an iphone 15 pro for $1849 you get $277 discount plus buyback $1170 = $1447 ($402 paid) . OW deal $1849-$1310 giftcard = $539 (15% off this = you paid $458) So $56 worse off! And you have to use that $250 gift card in OW in the future

          If OW gc is treated as cash, you made $113.2 in OW gc compared to webuyback. Assuming a resale value of OW gc at 15% discount, you are still netting $76 in gc compared to webuyback.

      Moorup is a different entity I believe, they are only partnering for the gift cards, the rest is still separate. The Officeworks team might just be two or three people responding to emails and forward stuff to Moorup.

      Sending your old device to us is easy. Make sure all your personal data stays with you and the device is unlocked so we can give it a second life.

    You say to cancel the trade-in if the deal is not worth what it's thought to be, but the T&C's say if you don't send in your device by the agreed time, then they charge the pre-authorisation on your card. Do you see an option to cancel the trade-in once you've done it?

    Edit: Just emailed them and they confirmed you can cancel if the gift-card hasn't been used.

              The cut over is the warranty for me personally. You save more money by netflixing instead of thinking about this until it starts to run out. Also historic price suggests the base unit depreciates less than the premium ones.

Lots of fearful people here who’d never done it, just bought into the horror stories. I don’t have as much luck with specific colours, especially since moving away from big cities. I was after a green Mini, nothing came up for a while so bought from Apple. As far as nth nsw, Central Coast was not too bad from memory, the market was quite active, I did sell my then SE there to buy the 12 mini when I lived there briefly. The rent was maddening there btw.

    Looks like OWs Moorup valuation is on lower side compared to JB hifi squaretrade eg., iphone 12 is valued 425 at OW and 520 at JB.
    Still you can get $150 extra as part of this deal.. hope JB hifi could offer Trade-in bonus as well then it'll be an awesome deal!
