Steps:
1. Initiate a trade-in request and get the value as Officeworks gift cards today (delivered via Prezzee).
2. Pay for an iPhone 15 in store on Friday, use your trade-in gift cards plus ultimate whatever, as many as you want (no limit at Officeworks).
3. Fill the claim form.
4. Get $250 Officeworks gift card.

It only works on Friday because you can only pay for it on Friday in store, when it’s no longer considered ‘preorder’. Gift cards can’t be redeemed online.

Edit: it is only for trading in iPhones 12, 13 and 14. I got $310 for my lovely iPhone 12 mini now plus $250 later. Doubt I could sell it for $560 on the second hand market (maybe in a few years as a vintage tiny phone). Combined with the 15% ultimate gift card deal it’s quite sweet.

Edit 2: if you are really unsure, the 15% off ultimate deal is on until 26th. Monitor this thread and buy the gc only when you have read some confirmed cases here. But you need to do the trade-in request pretty soon because that takes time to process. Cancel the trade-in if this deal is not what we think it is.

Edit 3: my gc arrived a day or so after the trade-in request, it might take some time for yours. It will arrive. Also allow for the possibility of the team being ozbargained.

Edit 21/9/23 11:37: my local OW just called me back and informed me of the stock levels. They don’t have the colour I’m after, so I’ll have to go in and place an order tomorrow using the gift cards.

Edit 22/9/23 11:16: got the phone, submitted the claim and received the receipt for the trade-in bonus. Two things:
1. If you have OnePass but it doesn’t come up automatically after scanning Flybuys, bring up your barcode and scan that too.
2. The Prezzee gc needs to be manually entered into the machine. Find someone who knows how to do it. It can be done.

Final edit:
You can’t place orders on the variant that isn’t available in store. For example, my local only has access to placing orders on the black or blue.
There is a 30 day return policy on tech, OnePass’ one year thing doesn’t apply.

      I just called. They don't accept GCs over the phone. Someone below suggested ordering in store after 11am. Maybe their warehouse stock could be updated by then to order in.

        They also said the extra trade in credit offer was for pre-orders only and no longer applies. Also said that you couldn't pre-order in store. Not sure what to believe tbh.

          This doesn’t make sense. How can it be for preorder only if you can’t pre order in store while this is for a trade in offer

          • @Raskids10: You could preorder online or over the phone with payment that is not GCs. I think the OZB discount on top of discount got the better of us this time.

            I will just visit OW late this afternoon/evening to check if I could use my GCs to order in. If not I am going to cancel the tradein and take my business to JB instead. Even when JB costs $2 more than OW.

              What about the GC that was issued to you as part of the trade-in? I have heard that they will charge your credit card with the GC value so you probably will end up having a useless GC at a full price.

                • @Coxy777: Ah! So that option is also available when you initiate the trade-in? But then how would you use the trade-in GC with the pre-order?

                  • @IMadeYouReadThis: Having read the moorup t & c's (https://officeworks.moorup.com.au/terms) it states you can opt for payment by bank transfer (clause 3.2). I did not see an explicit option for this when doing the trade-in and did not enter any bank details (I saw something previously that they would be requested during the process). I believe that opting for payment after assessment is essentially selecting "get paid by bank transfer". Whereas opting for immediate payment (and entering CC details) results in a gift card.

                    With this promotion they then send you an extra $250 OW GC. But when I went through the process it stated you will receive gift cards at the end.

              • @IMadeYouReadThis: I still haven't received it yet. I just emailed Moorup to cancel the trade-in and refund my $385 credit card security. I am calling it quits on this trade-in deal. Will be happy to work out why Apple Wallet doesn't allow me to add a third Ultimate Gift Card or if JB allows manual Visa card transactions.

    Has anyone received their gift cards instantly? It’s been around 36 hrs and still no trace of it in the inbox. Sounds like a useless promotion.

  • I was contacted by them and promised they would come yesterday. No luck. Probably would have been less hassle selling privately.

  • I went to the store in Sydney. They asked me to come after 11 am to take any iPhone 15 orders. She has mentioned it’s a same in other stores as well.

    officeworks is a joke. i preordered on monday and it said it was available for pickup on release day. i’ve just checked my tracking and it says available for pickup next friday 🤦‍♂️

      It seems OW is getting the stock delivered only today morning via Toll!! Whereas JB have them ready for collection as promised on the release day. Such a joke OW!!

  • Update: managed to pick up one of very few spares that weren’t preordered at my local OW, use my $300 trade in gift card, use my gift cards I got from
    Woolies with x20 points last week. They were happy for me to order in one for next Monday and use my cards, but then they realised they had a different colour leftover so I just took that so I didn’t have to go back next week.

    Called Officeworks - they are not honouring the $250 promotional trade-in credit because the "pre-order allocation" is exhausted (has been since Thursday when I checked).
    If you didn't get an online pre-order, you won't be getting the bonus trade-in.

    • i think if you manage to go in store and get one to order for you today and you get a receipt number that should be fine. you would meet all the requirements so they can't really deny it.

        I thought that too, but the lady on the phone said it must be an online pre-order. They won't honour any more orders.

      • That’s exactly what it is. All the fluff is miscommunication, in the end the t&c is right there in blue and white.

    • Doubt it. You didn’t take anything, there’s no exchange of goods or services.

    • no admin fee but make sure you don't end up getting a GC before the cancellation is processed otherwise they will charge your credit card for the amount of GC issued.

        • if I were you, I will try to get to them via phone so that it can be cancelled right away. The problem with email is that they may issue GC first and then attend to your email!

    False or misleading claims
    Businesses shouldn't try to gain an unfair advantage by making misleading claims about their products or services.
    Claims should be true, accurate and based on reasonable grounds.
    A business must be able to prove any claim they advertise.

  • How do you use the printed digital gift cards (Visa number) at Officeworks? They have normal iPhone 15 available but I was told their payment system doesn't let them enter the Visa card number in manually. Does anyone know if JB allows the manual Visa payments?

    I then tried to add 3 of my GCs into Apple Wallet but the third one failed to be added. Called Ultimate Gift card only to be told to try again after 24 hours as it could be my Apple Wallet issue.

      • You are telling me. I was so happy to finally end this saga by buying a normal iPhone 15 (in stock) instead of Pro (no stock even at their warehouse) only to be told that "I haven't seen this type of gift cards before" when I presented the paper print outs.

    • The gc had to be entered manually, then you put in your pin as you would any card purchase. It works, find someone in the store who knows how to do it.

      • I am sure it works because even a small business with an eftpos terminal can do it. Our business's Westpac eftpos terminals could do it but the lady serving me at the counter said she couldn't type in the GC numbers. I asked her to use it as a Visa card and type the numbers in manually but she said the system doesn't allow it. I thought it was a fraud prevention policy at OW.

        • It depends on the staff. Not everyone is well-trained or comfortable with pressing random buttons. The gift card has instructions on how to use it in store, that convinced the cashier it can in fact be used in store. The miscommunication is very much multilevelled 😂 They are also getting into OnePass right now, so lots going on.

          • @frugalftw: Tried again. Got the same lady which is the branch manager. She insisted that she couldn’t do it as the system doesn’t allow it even after I told her that another OW branch did it.

            I tried it at JB and also escalated it to the manager. Got told the same thing that they need the bar code and can’t manually enter the card numbers!

            I gave up. My only option is to try adding the third GC into Apple wallet after 24 hours. If that doesn’t work I might have to ask for a refund from Ultimate GC or do a chargeback.

            • @DarkOz: That makes no sense, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t think my local is a more advanced one in anyway, as it’s practically regional. Try a different store if you still have any fight left in you 😞

It wouldn’t have been a problem had OW or JB accepts split payments online but they don’t. I am sulking tight now so there is no more fight in me. I don’t want to end up an abusive Ken.

                  • @frugalftw: Just had lunch and walked to another OW close by. Asked the store manager directly if they could enter these “Ultimate GC as prepaid visa cards” manually for payment. He said they couldn’t but I mentioned that a regional OW branch did and why they could’t. He kinda indicated that they shouldn’t be so they have to stick by the rules. I get the impression that OW/JB are intentionally not allowing these.

                    • @DarkOz: Oh wait, you were doing that to the ultimate gc? I was referring to the Moorup gc, since your original question was about that one. The ultimate gc was in my Apple wallet, no issues tapping it. If you couldn’t add it to your wallet, try again and worst case scenario, buy another one and ask for the ‘faulty’ one to be refunded/charged back.

                      The only difficulty was I couldn’t see how much was on the ultimate gc, so had to guess how much to try each time.

Only told me to wait 24 hours and try again blaming the problem on Apple Wallet. I couldn’t have bought iphone 15 with only $1000 loaded. What a day.

                        • @DarkOz: I’m quite confident Apple has spent enough money to test and made sure Wallet is bullet proof. Ultimate is the problem, make yourself a cuppa and call them, keep escalating until they find someone who would either fix it or reissue a new one.

        • Enter the card details manually into your Apple Wallet like a credit card, then go purchase it.

          They can split the transaction across multiple cards.
          I had to explain this to the cashier because they looked at me like I was speaking Cantonese.

          • @Goose93: I am trying to. Completed 2 GCs but the last 2 GCs won’t be added with an “invalid card” error. I called Ultimate GC which blamed Apple wallet and advised me to add again after 24 hours.

        Edit: only issue for me is the trade-in confirmation saying I need to send device in by 26th September. I emailed Moorup and they said that’s the correct date, I asked Officeworks and they said it should be what was advertised on the website.

          Someone commented somewhere about changing the date to align with OW’s advertised date. I would go with the 13th, not the 26th. They had to allow for preorder stock to arrive, 5 days from launch is not realistic.

        • @rpb @magwri So you were able to pick up one in store today or just ordered it in. I am after an iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB (any colour) and stores are saying they can't even put through an order for the 15 Pro Max

    I literally just did the last thing I want to do with this awful trade-in company.
    Screenshot every single screen with a mentioning of "You’ll instantly receive your digital gift card when you submit your trade-in."

    This kind of dodgy promotion, partnered with one of the most trustworthy Australian stores, Officeworks, is absolutely unacceptable.

    I will spare no effort to get them cancel my order and release the pre-auth on my card.

    And I highly suggest you avoid this 'deal', Moorup and any other offer they would provide in the future.

    • OW is the one partnered with them, you can’t possibly think that they are not partially responsible for this. Judging by the claim number I received and assuming it goes up by 1 by each subsequent claim, plenty of people have done it. The best way is to send complaints to OW so that they are aware of the situation.

  • Got my gift card just then for the trade-in. Going to head into officeworks soon to try and buy. I called them just then and they said they could place the order via the store but she couldnt tell me if it would meet the eligibility for the $250 additional trade-in voucher.

  • I’m at officeworks and they are not accepting iPhone Pro or Pro max orders in-store. The system only allows her to make iPhone 15.

    Is there anyway I can cancel this trade? I already requested cancel email but just received the GC

    • I just rang up OW customer service. Was told theyre extending the pre orders. But the promotion for the extra $250 has ended when it hit 12am of 22/9. So technically no way of using your trade in gift card towards the IPhone 15.

        That reads like the real window closed on 21st, not 22nd. Since the only way to use the gc is in store on 22nd, it would make the whole thing a scam because of the term ‘trade in’. Will wait and see what unravels next.

      • I called up officeworks, where the girl said to refund your phone and repurchase it with gift cards, etc. Someone else commented to do the same here and it was confirmed with in-store staff they could repurchase the same returned device.

    Finally got the GC. Go to OW and is told they cant take any pre orders anymore. What a joke this whole process was. Never trusting OW with their promotions anymore. Waste of time

        Literally walked in to the shop, asked for the phone, scanned my flybuys and OnePass, scanned a pile of gcs to pay for it, walked out and put the transaction number on the claim form. Seems we live in very different realities 😅

        • Yes, seems like a very different reality. I was told by OW customer service that the promotion ended at 12am of 22/9. As I've given up now with OW and have requested to cancel the GC.

    I emailed [email protected] to cancel my trade-in transaction given that it appears unlikely that we could place an order for the iPhone 15 Pro Max in store.

    I didn’t even receive any correspondence after submitting my trade-in request last night. The only evidence a “transaction” has occurred is a charge on my credit card.

    This is a great deal, just not well-executed.
