Steps:
1. Initiate a trade-in request and get the value as Officeworks gift cards today (delivered via Prezzee).
2. Pay for an iPhone 15 in store on Friday, use your trade-in gift cards plus ultimate whatever, as many as you want (no limit at Officeworks).
3. Fill the claim form.
4. Get $250 Officeworks gift card.

It only works on Friday because you can only pay for it on Friday in store, when it’s no longer considered ‘preorder’. Gift cards can’t be redeemed online.

Edit: it is only for trading in iPhones 12, 13 and 14. I got $310 for my lovely iPhone 12 mini now plus $250 later. Doubt I could sell it for $560 on the second hand market (maybe in a few years as a vintage tiny phone). Combined with the 15% ultimate gift card deal it’s quite sweet.

Edit 2: if you are really unsure, the 15% off ultimate deal is on until 26th. Monitor this thread and buy the gc only when you have read some confirmed cases here. But you need to do the trade-in request pretty soon because that takes time to process. Cancel the trade-in if this deal is not what we think it is.

Edit 3: my gc arrived a day or so after the trade-in request, it might take some time for yours. It will arrive. Also allow for the possibility of the team being ozbargained.

Edit 21/9/23 11:37: my local OW just called me back and informed me of the stock levels. They don’t have the colour I’m after, so I’ll have to go in and place an order tomorrow using the gift cards.

Edit 22/9/23 11:16: got the phone, submitted the claim and received the receipt for the trade-in bonus. Two things:
1. If you have OnePass but it doesn’t come up automatically after scanning Flybuys, bring up your barcode and scan that too.
2. The Prezzee gc needs to be manually entered into the machine. Find someone who knows how to do it. It can be done.

Final edit:
You can’t place orders on the variant that isn’t available in store. For example, my local only has access to placing orders on the black or blue.
There is a 30 day return policy on tech, OnePass’ one year thing doesn’t apply.

        Immediately following the call, I received a confirmation email about the cancellation and was advised, during the call and in the cancellation email, that the hold on my credit card will be released in up to 3 business days.

        It’s a shame because this would have been the perfect offer for me. My case is closed. Good luck everyone!

    Same experience with me. Officeworks is not accepting the order in store and I have not received the gift card yet. My conspiracy theory is that they intended to lock people into officeworks credit and got the dates messed up and realised people could use the credit on the day so decided to delay.

    • There was an option to receive the trade-in value after the device has been received. That might have been the path to avoid the gift card debacle altogether. Doubt OW wants to have the brand damage in exchange for it. Somethings are harder to buy back once you lose it.

      • Took me 13 attempts at ver two days but I got through. They said there was a backlog but he told me my order number and that I would get my vouchers and instructions today. That was 1229AWST and I got emails and a text at 1421AWST.

  • I am one of the MANY people in here who placed a trade-in order (yesterday) and am also yet to receive the gift card. Called them 18 times and emailed them to cancel, no luck.
    I am wondering though, as I am able to place an order online with Officeworks for an iPhone 15 (collection on Monday), what happens if I receive the GCs today? Can I use the GC numbers as part payment for my online order and then register for the bonus $250 GC by quoting the order number?

    • Are you allowed to place an order without paying for it? If that’s the case, I’m sure you can use it at the counter during pick up. However, there’s been reports on cashiers unable to figure out how to put in the gift cards.

        No, you need to pay in full and I cant see an option to enter gift card numbers when in the online payment process..
        The whole thing sucks big time, particularly considering that I am probably going to receive the GCs in the next few days and it might be hard to stop them from charging my credit card.

    • You don’t need to use the trade in gift card to qualify for the bonus $250. But why didn’t you order in store using the discounted ultimate cards?

    I did get my vouchers this morning but there seems to be stock of iphones in any office works. A verrry bad terrible promotion by one of the trusted merchants!! Never gng back to them again.

    I just did it instore.
    Out of the pros, only the 1tb Pros are available currently, can still see those available in the warehouse. The iPhone 15s are available too but need to check the correct size.

    Managed to do it trading in my iphone 14 pro 512gb, using the instant gift cards + ultimate home cards. They should be able to split the payments.

          • @pOint01: I was lucky the staff knew what he was doing. As long as you can add to cart online it means they have available stock.
            I used the OW works app to show that I could add to cart and they were able to do it on their end in the end.

    I submitted my trade in request 20 Sept about 1pm. I emailed them same day to check when I would receive the gift cards and got a reply that night:

    "Thank you for your email, we have alerted our technical team on this issue, as you went through to the last process we may have your order in the system but not released/landed correctly, we will investigate this immediately and come back to you.

    If the order has not gone through at all, we will take steps to release the hold on your card. (then you can proceed with an attempt to place a new order)
    If the order has come through we will let you know the order details and issue you the gift cards via email and SMS."

    Never heard from them again after that despite email follow ups. I finally managed to get someone on the phone just now, they found my order when I gave them my email and I asked them to cancel it. They did it immediately and I received a confirmation email. They said the system is supposed to send the GCs immediately but because of the volume, it became overwhelmed so they have been manually sending gift cards based on a queue system. Apparently yesterday they had about 400 trade in requests from this iPhone offer.

    • @icedtea229 Which number did you call to reach them ? 03 6118 7190, I always keep getting there are no support agents available. On calling OW, I get dodgy answer that this offer was for an iPhone 15 pre-order and not for in shop orders today.

      What a shame, it doesn't help that OW has totally raised their hands on this matter (both in-store and online/customer service) and they say contact Moorup and its not their headache. I have emailed Moorup and OW support that I am going to lodge a consumer complaint now and dispute my credit card hold and they have to honour this offer, otherwise if they dont refund the CC hold quickly hopefully CC dispute with CBA will refund the funds asap and hopefully they are slow to nullify the OW GCs and we all get to use them to teach them a lesson

      • I called that number too. I've been trying to get a hold of them for the last 2 days and either get the no supports agents available or they hang up after 10 minute hold. I think I was lucky - I was on hold for about 5 minutes and someone actually picked up.

        Yeah unfortunately this deal has been shambles hence my decision to cancel to avoid further stress. Good luck!

    So the deal was bs.

    Went through the massive headache of the trade in with moorup to get the bonus, they take days to send the trade in balance. I go to the store they can’t let me order one because no stock at warehouse so I don’t get the 250 bonus, I don’t get to order a phone, I have to send my existing phone to moorup and I can’t get refunded the gift card balance… so I also have to spend $900 at officeworks which I obviously don’t want to do after all this bs

    • I’m sure they read you can cancel the process as long as you haven’t used the gift cards. They cancel the gift cards and release the gold on your card

    YEAH~ weekend surprise~
    My INSTANT gift card finally hit my mailbox, two days after I lodged the trade-in appliacation. It seems they didnt check their support mailbox as I have already sent cancellation request earlier this morning.
    NEVER AGAIN Moorup!!!!!!!!!!!

      I’d expect some sort of public announcement or mass email to come out next week. Give everyone some time to recover. Surely they’d had the worst week since the business started. When they have worked through the backlog and assessed the damage, there’d be some sort of damage control if they still want to be in business. Remember they are only human, just as you are, and humans need time to rest in order to function. Enjoy your weekend and leave it to the future you 😇

  • lol, cancelled my order two days ago which supposedly got stuck and never cleared. Received nil confirmation of trade-in order or cancellation.

  • Ok, wish me luck. I received the MoorUp trade-in credit at 7:30pm and I immediately went to my closest OW to place an order for an iphone 15 128gb. They accepted it (expect to collect on 26/9). Submitted my order number online just now (and received confirmation email from Moorup right away).

    Next step is to wait for the shipping label and my new phone. Hopefully everything works out!

  • On September 20th, I requested a trade-in for my old iPhone and opted for an instant gift card. However, after waiting for a day, I still hadn't received the gift card. I emailed the support team to inquire about it and they promptly responded that my trade-in request was successful and that they would send the gift card and return labels the next morning. Many people were complaining about officeworks having limited stocks and everything being out of stock in the comments section, so I decided to cancel my request and asked the support team to release the holding amount on my credit card at 10 AM. To my surprise, I received the gift card at 5 PM on the same day. Despite knowing that all the stocks were out, I still went out to try my luck. I went to one officeworks store, but they said they didn't have any stocks. Then, I tried another one on my way back home, where the service assistant also told me that they didn't have any stocks after checking the system. However, a senior guy came in and said that they did have stock and he needed to get it from the warehouse. I waited patiently, and everything went through smoothly as expected. In the end, I purchased with Trade in OW gift cards plus Ultimate gift cards and submitted a claim for the trade-in additional credit application.

    I was lucky!

    Has anyone figured out how to cancel the trade in? like many here my gc came really late and there was no chance I could order in the phone model I was after. I email support asking them to cancel at around 5pm, then the gift card came at 7pm without another other correspondence

  • I'm lucky I'm in WA, received an sms confirming the GC at 6pm, rushed back home to purchase the ultimate GC, and then to OW. Apparently they could only order certain models and colours in their system (which are still available in their warehouse). I could only order Black for Iphone 15plus. I'll take whatever colour they have.

  • i bought the iphone 15 used the trade in voucher + the ultimate gift cards but didnt put in my application for the 250 officeworks gift card as i was having technical difficulties and didnt realise the time (intended to do this before 12) did i miss out ?

      The claim window closes a few days later I believe. They had removed the promotion from their website, I would email them my receipt and ask for the claim to be considered.

    I got the cards, I don't mind waiting to order, but only did this for the promo, essentially losing out on approx 80 bucks due to having to use OW gift cards instead of ultimate home. Got offered 525 for the iPhone 12 256 pro. Wanted to order before the promo closed so I could get the 250 bonus. Is there any steps to enable this that anyone has found?

    I did email a cancellation request, but they didn't get back to that and still sent the gift cards. But if anyone knows a way to still get the 250 promo id happily wait for stock and get that.

      I’m in the same boat, I have sent to cancel the trade in. I even leave the message on the machine, all of a sudden we all receive gift card late at night, I feel like it’s intentional on their part.

    Took me all day calling but finally got through to a human.

    They've extended the $250 cashback 1 week for people who've got an active trade-in happening (so ending this coming Friday) and if you can't get a device between now and then they'll let you cancel the trade-in.

  • I uhh. Don’t think I got a return label. Did this come in one of the emails earlier?

    • I had to call customer service to get a return label. If you only need a return label, you can start a new trade-in request without the instant gift card option, and an automated email with the return label will be sent.

    Returned my phone in the post today. Auspost claim they do not provide any padded bag free of charge (unlike what’s stated in the email). Luckily I had my own just in case.

          • @babablacksheep89: I had my own padded bag from a recent parcel I received so I just re-used that. Wrapped it in a few pieces of paper inside for extra protection.

        • 😄 I got the confirmation email today about having assessed my device and everything was good, but they didn’t mention the gc, so I followed that up. They then asked for the claim ID. You might want to do that too if it happens to you.

  • Anyone successfully cancelled the tradein? My pro max preorder which had initial deliver date of 22/Sept got pushed back 4 times and new date is 4th/Oct. I'm looking to cancel and order somewhere else. OW preorder is a joke.

    • You have no chance of getting in sooner elsewhere so i would keep what you have ordered!

      • Not true. We cancelled our preorder of iPhone pro max blue 256gb on Wednesday. We checked the Apple Store a few times a day and found stores were constantly receiving new stock. We reserved an iPhone pro max 256 natural and picked up the next day. If you have an Apple Store near you, check store stock and you will be able to reserve one easily!

    21/9:
    Completed trade in form 7am, received no confirmation / gift cards or other comms. Sent a follow up email afternoon 21/9 asking for confirmation.

    22/9:
    Sent another follow up asking for confirmation / gift cards AM after still no response, later in the day sent an email request to cancel the trade in as I planned to trade the handset elsewhere if I couldn't use the vouchers against the iPhone purchase. Pre-ordered iPhone 15 at Officeworks in store, then late in the day received the gift cards. I figure if they've already sent me the gift cards it's too late to cancel so may as well continue with the deal even though I wasn't happy about not being able to use the gift cards against the purchase, and submit the claim form for the bonus $250.

    23/9:
    I receive a message from them saying they're processing the cancellation of trade in.

    25/9:
    The hold on the trade in value isn't there anymore. I have gift cards and a phone and no hold on my card. If I wanted to be a dick I could probably use the gift cards and trade the phone elsewhere. I have no idea what is actually going on so try calling / emailing / leaving voicemails to try and get some clarity – if the deal is still on I need to know if I have to get the trade in to them for the bonus $250.

    Receive an automated email telling me it's time to send my device back. So I'm guessing the trade in is still on despite being told it had been cancelled? I'm hesitant to send my phone off without knowing for sure though.

    I've been trying to get through multiple times every day, at this point I've called 20+ times and have not once gotten through. Sent multiple emails asking for clarity, left voicemails etc. Can't think of a time when I've dealt with this much of a shyte show. I live not too far from the Moorup office and as it seems they've given up on attempting customer comms I'm wondering if just rocking up there with the trade in phone is the only way I can be sure of what's going on. Completely nuts. I somewhat understand if they've been swamped with trade ins to process but to not at least have an email auto responder acknowledging it and providing an ETA on response is wild.

    • That’s a horror story, sorry to hear that. I somehow got a response every time… As far as dropping into their office, I think it’s fair game if they have a receptionist there, or their branding out and about the building.

  • I received an email from Moorup this morning saying 'they done with assessment of the device and they found it in same condition as I described it. Your order is now completed. We’re all finished!'
    They didn't say anything about sending the $250 OW gift card.
