  • How does ANA compare to JAL?

Though I guess it's less important given business class legroom.

    • +1

they are just as good i think

    • +8

I’ve flown both on numerous occasions.
JAL has a far better hard product
ANA and JAL have an equally impeccable soft product

Either is way better than QF

      • +1

I agree JAL 787 economy has a better hard product, but not necessarily for J or F.

        Doesn't JAL still continue a 2-2-2 config for their 787s in J?

        • Flying with JAL for the first time in Jan, keen to see how their 787 business class stacks up!

        • +1

2-2-2 but its staggered so every seat has direct aisle access. And it’s one of the best beds in the sky.

      • +3

But then no contributing to the Alan Joyce retirement kitty…how sad.

      • haven't heard this before - prease exprain what you mean - the difference between hard and soft product ?

        • +5

          Hard product is the seat.
Soft product is the food, service ect

      • +1

You can apparently fly on the Pikachu plane with ANA

        • +2

          Can you pickachu your seats?….

    • ANA's international B787 J is top class.

If you're unlucky and wind up on their regional B787, it is dogshit.

    • I flew this route on my way to Chicago.

      I’ve flown business on:
      Qatar
      Emirates
      Etihad
      ANA.

I’d rate them in that order. For the nine hour flight. I would not waste my money.

The business lounge in Tokyo is terrible. Hardly any showers. No recliners or comfy seats at all for that matter. Food is ok.

Want to watch a movie on the plane? Pick 1 of 5…..

      Seat is fine.

If I had the option to save 2k, I would easily go Economy on this route.

  • These aren't 'The Room' seats, are they?

    • +1

The room is only on the 777 - so nope. But they're not bad

    • +1

No, the room seats are only on their 777-300ER(77W) for now which I think mainly do USA and European routes. The business seats on their 789s resemble the Qantas business suites in layout (But with a different finish)

JAL will be unveiling soon a new business product for its a350Ks, although I doubt they'll be running to many to Australia.

  • +4

Banger of a deal - just a shame ANA are only ex-SYD on the East Coast.

  • I’m happy to stick with standard economy seats to Tokyo and save that money for accomodation instead of business class

    • +27

Im happy to stick with not travelling and save that money for paying my electricity bill

      • +38

        I'm happy with a stick.

        • This guy gets it

        • All you need is a stick to create a world better than any other,
No need to fly to experience something, just find the right stick.

        • -2

          … where the sun don't shine ?

        • A stick? Pure luxury.

      • +3

I'm happy to stick with not paying electricity bill and save that money for my food

        • +2

I'm happy to stick with not paying food bill and save that money for water

          • @Voucherd: Death is still free

            • +1

@Meconium: not for relatives ..we just had mother in law pass away and it cost $26k

              • @TrustNoBody: My condolences hearty congratulations (skipped over the words 'in law' the first time)!

Still, I bet she's laughing from the other side knowing that the relloes picked up the tab. There are no pockets in a shroud after all.

                • @Meconium: no i actually liked my mother in law and she was a very well known and well liked elder in the indigenous community..she did have a funeral fund but that covered nothing really and cos she died without a will so nobody can touch any of her bank accounts or anything apparently

        • -6

ok guys, we are talking about travelling budget here. i'm just saying if you want to save some of the budget on travelling, go with standard seats than business class.

no need to go into, save money travelling and pay electricity bill / food etc
of course we save money if we don't go travelling i was just trying to give a tip thats all with travelling and budgeting

i'm guessing you guys haven't travelled before if you guys are giving sarcastic responses?

          • @prankster: You do realise different people have different budgets, right? Your "tip" is invalid for people who want to fly in a bit of luxury and comfort.

Just because you're happy to go in economy doesn't allow you the right to invalidate the choice and experiences of those who want to fly in business.

You weren't giving a tip, you were just making a statement. It's unwarranted advice clearly no one asked for or needs.

To save money AND fly business, accrue airline points and redeem business class flights.

And I don't think anyone was being sarcastic, they were only being funny. Often misunderstood by people who have no sense of humour

            • -2

@NoApostrophePlurals: whatever I think people here just take things too seriously about an innocent comment being made, wait I’ll add a stick it comment so we’ll all laugh about it. No wonder ozb starting to look like online bullying and that’s what I’m feeling right now about my innocent comment. Bring on the negatives I don’t get a shit 👍

              • +2

@prankster: The downvotes were because you were the one taking a bit of online banter as criticism. It wasn't your post, and people were suggesting that if you want to save money, you could choose not to travel at all, and others elaborated on that. It wasn't a personal attack and in any case I didn't downvote you.

I don't like the wanton use of downvotes either, except when I get to use mine on jv's unwelcome, unfunny and usually hateful comments. But it's just the nature of social media these days - people are pissed off and they're taking it out on each other from the safety of their keyboards. Every forum on the web used to be like this, but somehow when the Like button was introduced, points were equated to validation. Nek minnit there's a social credit system in China and points are literally a reflection of your character, at least according to the people apportioning the points.

You're right not to "get a shit" about it.

              • @prankster: Broooo "people here just take things too seriously about an innocent comment being made" this is literally YOU. You're the ONLY one who had any issue with anything and went all serious, and then got butthurt and said "i'm guessing you guys haven't travelled before.."

You're just being a snowflake dude. Someone makes a stick joke and you relate that to bullying. Yikes. You're too sensitive. Touch grass.

                • @NoApostrophePlurals: insert stick joke. hope in real life people are ok to be friends with you coz certainly i would avoid you

          • +4

@prankster: You're missing that they were just joking around. My comment on just taking a sleeping tablet definitely did get down voted though it is certainly a much less expensive option to make a 10 hour flight go super fast 😊

    • -3

I've found a hack that gets me business class for $15 regardless of the flight.
      Restavit.

      • +1

Only $15 for business class? What happened to the restavit?

    • i'm happy not being poor

    • Yeah, me too, especially on a good airline! Save that money for food!

      • +1

Imagine if you could afford both business class and good food 😮

        • Yes, to that! ANA and JAL business class serve the loveliest food IMHO.

  • Hmm I do find it odd how ANA and JAL don't run the same non-Sydney routes - JAL does direct to Melbourne while ANA does direct to Perth.

    • +4

ANA came back into the Australian market late so after coming back to Sydney,I presume they decided next to go into the market where there was an unfilled demand. And there is some corporate demand for flights (which helps fill business class seats, the more profitable part) due to Perth being a major resources city. Japan is the 2nd biggest export market for Australia and natural resources is a major part of that. Especially since Japan practically has none.

The 3 biggest Aussie markets(Sydney, Melbourne, South East Queensland) have multiple airlines already to Tokyo and JAL entered Melbourne first before ANA. So the bean crunchers and planners at ANA probably felt that there was no extra demand to cater for Melbourne since JAL and Qantas was already serving the route.

    • They possibly could have lost their airline routes/airport slots for not using them.

  • +1

Oh man I want to go for longer -_-

    • Ya I started winding back the dates but it went to $500+ dollars across the board

  • Does anyone know if ANA business class is fully refunded?

    • -5

If they crash they do fully refund.

    • subject to fare type, business deal fare is usually non-changeable and non-refundable

      • +1

        oof, non-changeable is rough :/

  • Can do Perth to Tokyo business for under 4.5k over Christmas if anyone's interested

  • Perth pays the same amount for economy class, whats up with that?

  • Super cool but a lot of money for a short flight.

  • +1

It is better to outline the aircraft type subject to ops

It may changed to 788 without notification and the seats may become ANA BUSINESS CRADLE.
    https://www.ana.co.jp/en/jp/guide/flight_service_info/int-se…

There is no compensation for aircraft swap

  • what's the difference between booking this and directly with the airline?

    • you save money now but good luck if something goes wrong on the day of your flight

      • +2

The majority of airlines take back control of the ticket around 24 hours before departure, so that's one of the few scenarios where it generally doesn't matter!

  • Unlimited meal and biers?

    • +1

      yes.

  • Too bad is not the new Business Class seat "The Room" for SYD-HND yet.

  • ana economy flight prices have dropped again to ~$1k for some dates in may! im too lazy to type up a post - ill wait for one of the flight price aggregators to do that - but for my fellow hodlers.. now's the time

  • -1

I know this dosen't fit under business class topic, but was wondering if there's any return flight from syd to tokyo(or osaka) for around $1.1k, Or is it too late to get deals like that now?

  • Kind of odd topic, but if anyone is going to Japan before December 28 and hasn't bought their JR pass yet, I have a code for $99 off for 2 passes. It was part of the Klook 9th birthday sale and my wife and I both redeemed a voucher not wanting to miss out. I wasn't aware the code stays on your account if you don't use it!

The code can't be transferred so you'll have to transfer money to me and I'll buy it on your behalf. Or maybe I can just give you my wife's Klook log-in and you buy it using her account. That should work.

First one to reply here gets it. Coupon expires tonight.

    • Hey mate if you could share the Klook log in account that would be awesome! Thanks for reaching out in ozbargin!

    • Would love to book one for me and my wife… Can you PM me details please

    • Voucher used. Sorry all!

  • Just came back from Japan yesterday with the family. Boy i miss that place. So tempted to just jump on this !

  • +2

What a bunch of wet socks - this is a very good deal ( keeping mind that a bargain is a bargain and your personal orientation is irrelevant to me) unless you would rather sit up all night on VA
Note USD ( if the link still works)

Except for the guys talking about sticks
