    $299 is the normal price?

That said - it's a great tool, with a few mods to get rid of the bag as it fills up super quick.

    • Yep bought recently for same price and very happy it has a bag. Does a great job, did it on buffalo after watching some YouTube videos

      • Nice - based off a mate's experience and suggestion, I ran it without the bag and the flap held up a bit and it worked a treat on my TifTuf. Had to rake up a bunch of the fluff but was better than emptying the bag every 30sec.

        • How do you find the TifTuf mate? It sounds fantastic based on the marketing/research

          • +1

@liam2040: Its nice. Originally crafted for sports industry. Probably over kill for domestic setting.

Unless you have a cylinder and are willing to undertake annual renovation with a nutrion program, I would keep the $10 a sqm and get wintergreen or buffalo in low light situations.

            Source: I am a greenkeeper

            • @maxwellish: Have you made a lawn bowls green in your yard?

              • +1

@Noppy: Haha no. I cylinder cut at 18mm. Perfect height for couch grass in a domestic setting.

In my opinion, anything lower and you have to invest significant tim e and money for very little reward.

            • @maxwellish: I have a mix of all grass in my small front yard and nature. I was told can use monument to kill everything and leave behind couch. That bottle is like $300. Is there any cheaper alternative? I don’t wanna spend $300 and it doesn’t work.

              • @Frozensage: Whats the base plant? Green couch? You have plenty of options. Monument is expensive and is usually used because of its compatability with blue couch etc.

Let me know what you got and ill make a program for ya.

          • @liam2040: As @maxwellish said it’s definitely overkill for home but i reckon it’s great.

Only got ~100sqm in the back yard here but spent the extra money based mostly on the weather tolerance - we’re in the same area as one of their major supporters on social media so knew it’d survive.

Only used a DeWalt battery mower for the first cupla years, struggled to keep up with weekly growth in summer (although also didn’t use PGR), now got a Husky Automower cutting laps every day. Will see how it goes this summer.
Certainly more even and seems happier with the daily trim rather than me trying to smash through on days off.

Have only done one reno (featured on YouTube lol) after we went away and couldn’t keep up with said growth - it was amazing, came back super quick.

@KablammoNick: Tif tuf thatches up quite quickly. This will be exacerbated due to your auto mower not picking up clip.

Make sure you detatch at the start and end of season. Would really suck if you got a disease in it from high organic matter and fertiliser.

              • @maxwellish: Cheers, that was my thoughts and the advice I received too - only concern is the guidewires for the automower getting chewed up, but so far so good.

Using the dethatcher attachment on the Ryobi works a treat, then run over with the mower to pick it up.

                • +2

@KablammoNick: Good as gold mate. Tif tuf loves a tickle up. Set the scarifier light and and go one way every month during grow season.

Heavy and multiple ways at reno time. I recommend you get a PGR happening. Will really reduce clip and make your auto mowers life easier.

Recommend the Sawmi over this unless you've already got a fair few batteries.

Yes, the cord is a bit annoying, but it's something you use once or twice a year. It has more power and 2 different cartridges.

    • +1

Good tip, thanks! Sawmi is coincidentally on sale - $340 down from $480 (not sure if real or fake discount though…)

      • Think it's a fake discount, has always been 340 as far as I know

Sorry but what's a scarifier.. I'm looking to buy a lawn mower.. is this a complementary thing to a mower or just one of these will do.. also any recommendations please..!! Thank you

    • Yes, Complementary thing on Tony Montano (Al Pacino), and Al Capone. Scarface.

In your comment, Selected scarifier, hold press, "search web for 'scarifier'", scroll down twice, "People also ask
      What does a scarifier do?
A scarifier is a garden tool used to break-up compacted soil, to remove dead grass and moss, and to aerate the turf. "

      The more you know.gif

      • +1

I'm guessing someone like me would not use it, but someone looking for the golf course green lawn would

A scarifier is a tool or equipment for removing thatch and moss from turf or a lawn. Thatch is a coating of decayed grass, roots, and other organic matter that builds up on the soil's surface and can obstruct the flow of nutrients, air, and water to grassroots. A scarifier works by cutting into the lawn's surface and removing thatch and moss, which can then be raked up and taken off. This encourages greater drainage and nutrient absorption while also enhancing the health and look of the lawn.

  • Mine cuts out super quickly is this normal, I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery to get it going again?? Any tips??

    • Shave more often? Or invest in laser 😂

Serious note though, no it’s either not up to the job you have it doing or it’s faulty

    • +1

I had the same problem with my ryobi 36v one. It was coming up with a battery over voltage error. Persevered to finish the job and returned it for a refund at Bunnings.

By the time the next season came around the ozito version was out and I already had plenty of batteries for that. The ozito has worked very well and it made me believe the ryobi was a genuine warranty issue/broken unit.

      • The only problem with Ozito is that it does not come with detacher attachement. For Ryobi you can buy it seperately, but its there.

    • Sounds faulty, but are you also trying to go too low into a lot of thatch? Maybe mow it a little lower and then try?

  • +2

Always been this price? Great tool though, it’s rrp though no bargain here

  • +13

My mother in law swears by this. It's the only thing that successfully removes her make-up each night

  • This is good if you have Ryobi batteries. Or you can hire one for 40 bux on facebook for a day as you need this only once a year.

    • +1

There are a few for hire around Adelaide area. Think I might go this route than buying one.

  • Thank you for the replies, I am already mowing at the lowest setting on a electric ozito (corded). And with the ryobi I would try a the highest level and try and work my way down - but literally it would stop every few 10-20 seconds or less (there was a lot of thatch and this was the first time ever removing it - sometimes a good run but more often then not cut out and i would reinsert battery to start again. I think I will go back to Bunnings - It does not have to be the original store of purchase correct? (Unsure with more expensive purchase 550 included battery)

    • @goff09 what capacity battery are you using ? Some Ryobi tools only work properly with the largest capacity batteries - there's significantly less power on offer from the smaller batteries, and the difference is enough to cause issues in the high-power tools.

  • Like chillybags this was the 36V newer edition

  • Have had one for the last 2 years - brilliant tool if you are into scarifying!

Better than the Sunjoe which had a wire - was always scared that the unit would catch the wire ! Only caveat is that both batteries have to have the same amount of charge or else they run out very fast!

You can also get a dethatching attachment

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-dethatcher-attachment-rsca…

    Great little tool!

  • Cheaper with powerpass too! ($284.05)

    • -3

This voids your warranty. Ryobi has no commercial warranty which is what Powerpass is.

How this hasn't been investigated by ACCC I'll never understand. They shouldn't even allow Powerpass to be used on any products without commercial warranty - even if it's only 3 months warranty when it comes time to returning it, you'll be disappointed.

      • +1

I've never had issues with powerpass and ozito gear.
On my 2nd brusless drill driver and 2nd brushless angle grinder, both swapped without any issues

      • Last time this was discussed many people commented that they've had no issues returning/exchanging after buying either Ozito or Ryobi on powerpass. (Myself included) I've even talked to Bunnings employees about it and they'd never heard of it being a thing.

I do believe it was a thing a while ago (there were some old posts on Whirlpool about it), but common sense prevailed…or perhaps the ACCC had a word.
