Was going to buy one then I got that annoying Shopify popup…

someone in Underwood just purchased an optiplex blah blah blah.

I refuse to buy from websites with this fake Shopify fomo marketing bullshit.

    • I wonder if they actually work on people.

Whenever I see one of those popups, I buy elsewhere or do further research into the site.

      • Well bufferstock have it and my boss recently bought a laptop from there. And if you're on the same listing, it eventually shows their name/location on it [Name] from [Location] bought this on [Date]

The sales tickers are add-ons and would be pretty hard to fake unless I have someone sitting here full-time writing fake sales

Even if they are true, WTF would anyone care what some random person bought? And why sh!t all over the webpage I'm trying to read? It's like going to a Macca's and when you're ordering, someone broadcasting over the loudspeaker what everyone else is ordering. It's silly and annoying.

You're a tech retailer, not a social media website.

@M00Cow: maybe the FOMO ? when i see hundreds camping out infront of apple store, i want to join too

            • @CyberMurning: It is FOMO, surprised neither of you picked it up.

@BLAIL: but i dont need it. but for example you need it but hesitate for a minute maybe not sure about the price etc… then when you see 1000 people buying it, oh well you may as well get it before too late

                • @CyberMurning: Yep, it's the basic influence of herd behaviour, peer pressure, or social proof.

As for why sites use it even though it puts off many of us, it still encourages more sales than it discourages. It only has to be a small net gain to be useful to the seller.

And if you're not convinced people would fall for it, think of the emotional intelligence of the average person when it comes to buying "shiny" things, then appreciate that ~50% of people are below that.

    • It really is a scourge on the internet.
Then they have the pop ups over the top of what you're reading.

  • What other sleeves are on sale? hard to navigate

    • Hahaha yeah, what a nightmare!

Searched Targus and 2 other things come up, not even OP's product. The only logical place where other bags would be is under Accessories but only 1 other 17inch bag comes up..

      • yeah i figured out they create special separate link product page (dont know why?) for this particular product just for ozb so others wont be able to find it.
also happened in the past for the monitor, surface, etc

  • Any bulk deals, ie for 10 or more?

  • Just received my bag today. Was able to fit my 16 inch lenovo laptop.
