  • Holy smoke

  • Christ, thats an insanely good price

This model is around 5 years old, so not really. Sluggish VA for gaming, even productivity.

      • -1

I wouldn't pay over $800 for any monitor yet alone 5 years old

        • Sounds like a you problem?

          • -1

@Lucidium: Sounds like this will cause higher inflation. And higher interest rate that's all I know

            • @neonlight: the world doesnt revolve around your needs

              • @Freestyle: I think you are talking about yourself needing this monitor. Considering that as "your needs"

                Same goes to you.

                • @neonlight: i think you should stop getting triggered about what other people buy just because you cant afford it or dont want to buy it

Surely this would send your eyes square?

I actually got one as a work screen- beats a double screen setup any day!!!

I've got this screen. At an angle the backlight inconsistency is quite noticeable. Sitting directly in the middle of it looking at it curved, it looks great. And the latter is all that matters.

      • Do you think the 1000r is perfect over the others?

        • Do you mean the curve itself? The screen is 1800r - sometime I think a bit more curve (like the more expensive G9) would be better.

I know it looks good for what I do - light gaming and lots of work

    • But the quantum dots!?

  • This is one of the best wide monitor. Working, gaming, studying all satified.

    • +4

Not at all. It's 5 years old.

    • Yep I agree. Got mine a couple og month ago for 1500 and at this price it is a steal. I only use it for work but don't think I could ever (happily) go back to dual screen setup.

      • Thoughts on 1000r? Considering others that are like 1500 or 1800 but heard it's the best

        • +1

I haven't actually used any 1000r but I think the 1800r of this one is perfect for work. I usually Have 2-3 windows open at the same time and the screen on my normal desk. Distance and radius just works great not having to turn your head all the time. For gaming the 1000r might be better/more immersive

Damn the future is now (and mildly affordable)!

  • Can u split payment at tgg to pay with ultimate gc?

    • I called them and they said you couldnt unless instore. I was suggested to trade them in on the ultimate gift card site but that doesnt have the good guys just jb unfortunately.

  • Good monitor, been using it for 3yrs now

    • Any good games that can support this wide screen?

For work, any advantge of this over a 2 screens setup ?
I guess it would be good for day traders.

      Thanks

      • +1

I do PnP mode for work so half the screen shows my laptop the other half shows desktop.

games not really, never been able to use the full 32:9
mostly 16:9 or 21:9 depending on performance.

        • +1

When you play 16:9 is the video centred? Or does it start from the left?

          • @DrScavenger: It's centered. I would not watch 16:9 video on this unless it's got black horizontal bars you can crop to wider aspect.

        • Do u need any software to be installed on the work laptop to get this PnP working?

        • Almost all my games run in 32:9, you must have been unlucky

          • @Ryballs: no, didn't mean games don't support 32:9, meant it didn't make sense to play them at 5k cause most games that are worth playing in at the full 32:9 are very demanding and ur better off using 21:9 to get higher setting and more fps.

but if Ur playing games that are a few yr older and have the latest GPU, its really something else experiencing it in 32:9

            • @Hatter: Just play at a lower 32:9 resolution and use FSR or whatever.

      • +1

Most do - natively - Starfield perhaps was the exception that needed to be Hex edited on the .exe.
But Check out WSGF to see any titles that need workarounds.

    • Me too, it's really solid for multitasking. Were you able to get the HDR working right? I couldn't manage it.

      • +1

ya windows 11 has a hotkey (Win + Alt + B) but it best to only use it in games since desktop isn't compatible.

        • Awesome, had no idea about that. Cheers mate

        • +2

          Also PowerToys FancyZones.

If you haven't installed it - give it a try. It's a Microsoft suite

    • Thoughts on 1000r? Is it the best?

  • +4

In case people don't know, this monitor has two variants - QLED and OLED. This is the QLED version so it's brighter, but the OLED version is more expensive and gives you real blacks.

Also a lot of monitor arms won't be able to hold the curved monitor weight even if it's within spec. If you plan on using an existing arm, you are probably out of luck, and buying a special arm for it costs quite a bit. For example if you have or get an Ergotron HX which are the best in the industry at about $375, you still need another $75-$100 to buy a special adapter to handle the weight.

    • +2

I don't think this monitor came in the OLED.

There's a few monitor arms which supports this size now without needing to go with the Ergotron HX and for about $100-150

        • +4

That's the G9, this deal is the CRG9

          • @Bearboi: Yeah but model number should be different, two different tech. But @Untameable referring as two different 49" which is correct isn't it?

            • @boomramada: Well one is 1800r and 120hz and the other is 1000r 240hz. I mean.. they're different monitors lol. If Untameable was referring to the original G9 which was QLED then that's correct. But this is the CRG9 2018 which was release before the G9 2020.

            • +3

              @boomramada: There’s four different ones
              1. CRG9 - Almost five years old, old blurry VA panel
              2. G9 - Stronger curve and much better motion performance at 240hz.
              3. G9 Neo - Same as the G9 with MiniLED and also now comes in a dual 4K 57 inch
              4. G9 OLED

      • Which monitor mount are you refering to for G9?

    • -1

Can confirm that the North Bayou NB45 for $185 can hold this monitor.

      https://www.screenmounts.com.au/new-nb45-heavy-duty-gaming-d…

      • +1

Not well, mine tips forwards and can't hold the weight. I had to modify it to work.

        • I can’t say I’ve had that issue, or either of my mates. Is your desk solid wood?

          • @Kelvin H.: Not the base, the bit that you screw up on the back to change the tilt of the monitor. It can't hold the weight, slips and tilts forwards.

Interesting that yours works out of the box, maybe they made some changes at some point.

    • Whats the special adapter you speak off? The monitor comes with a round vesa adapter.

      • The Ergotron HX Tilt pivot

USB-c with power? MacBook and Mac Mini compatible?

    • It doesn't have USB C:

  • What happens if you plug PS5 into this?

      Madness, cant stop playing games

    • +7

Presumably it will run at 2560x1440 with vertical black bars.

      • +2

        or super stretched

    • PBP (Picture by Picture) - screen has two inputs which allows for 2 seperate sources

      • So it's all gonna be on one side of the screen?

    • No120Hz via HDMI as it only has HDMI 2.0.
You could use an active HDMI 2.1 cable to display port for 120Hz

  • Not IPS. :(
As Untameable said; arm mount will be costly as quoted weight is 11.6Kg sans stand. ouch
Not for me but a good starter U/W

    • The stand for this is really good and versatile. I was concerned too in regards to how close it sits to me. I find that with a 70cm deep desk it's perfect. I first had a 60cm desk and it was just a bit too closed - so I lebt part of the monitor stand on the windowsill directly behind the desk it make up for the extra 10cm.

  • I don't understand where to purchase the 15% Gift card, I keep seeing the max is 500? Do I just get that x 2?

    • If youre going to pay online can only do one gift card at a time at tgg

      • Thanks for the heads up, I think the GC deal expired at 5PM

  • this is way better than oled rite guys

Can anyone recommend a 49" ultrawide just for office applications? I'm not really into gaming so this could be overkill?

    • +1

      100%
      thats why i got mine

  • Will the dp cable in the box be adequate or would i need to purchase another to make the most of it?

    • It's a decent cable. No issues plugged into my 3060. I doubt Samsung would include cables that were not good enough for the screen.

    • Im curious if anyone that works in graphics uses a curved screen actually. I personally cant stand the distortion in curved screens when im trying to do my super basic stuff. Web editing, powerpoints, touch ups, etc.

Am i the only one amused by the product code? LC49RG90SSEXXY

    • +1

it is a sexy with a double X

      • +2

Tempting but I only want one with triple X.

  • Not bad - I got this for about $1200ish a couple of months ago. Love it. Great screen.

  • welp this is tempting

  • Need a crazy good PC to actually game on this thing though. I already get a sore neck if I look off to the side too long on my 34" monitor.

    • i got a 3060. im not a big gamer - i watched 4k game reviews running on a 3060 and it seems ok.
if i were big on gaming, id go for a better card for sure!

  • -4

This definitely qualifies as an OzBargain price wise. Personally, though, I don't understand why everyone seems to want superwide monitors (my preferred screen ratio is 16:10, I'm current using a 16:9 screen). Web sites are all made for portrait orientation cell phones. When doing productivity tasks I often find myself withing for more height rather than more width. Some 16:10 and 16:9 monitors have a stand that will let you pivot the monitor 90 degrees, which is useful is some situations.
