Rectifying my bad choice in this post. Don't buy it for multi-day hiking, its huge.

This one is considered Rolls Royce of hiking gas mini stove / burners. Especially in wind. Made in Japan, has in-built pressure regulator! I researched this stuff for few hours, answer to "where is the deal" is these hours.

I got one from Onogo AU, got charged without having tracking number, freaked out and ordered another from Amazon UK. Now I will have two :)

Review. Discussion.

"The Windmaster is my number 1 choice when I bring a stove. I have been using it for a few years now. I have used lots of stoves in the past and in my opinion this is the best you can buy.
I handles wind like a champ. You definitely don't need a windscreen for it.
In terms of actual cooking I find it either goes from full blast to just enough flame to simmer. Which is all I need really."

    Good for yuru camping

I have this. It's great, fits perfectly into a Toaks titanium 650ml pot along with a 100g gas canister when I go hiking. I also got the triflex to go with it

    It's a favourite over in r/ultralight

      bought the pot lol

        Nice.

Pickup the 100g Jetboil Jetpower canister. One is enough, and then something like this to transfer from the cheap larger gas canisters from Kmart to this small Jetboil one when it runs low.

You'll save a ton of money doing it this way.

done! ur mum is a legend!

        • Just read your comment after replying to another — i do the same but instead of that fancy adapter, you could just use cheapo $1 ones

  • The name "WindMaster" is such an oxymoron. I had this whilst travelling around Europe (solo motorbike) in 2015. Even the slightest wind would turn off the flame which was really annoying despite bowled burner design. Pity it does not come with windshield. On the positive side, it is very portable, works well during light rain & snow and the best part is the ignition, never let me down during my 6 months trip. If you ask me if I would purchase it again, definitely “Yes”

    • Yeah I've got lots of gas burners and none of them are wind proof most are barely wind resistant.

A wind shield was the only way. That or one of those JetBoil style integrated shields.

Most of the time I build a makeshift shield with my bag and objects nearby but that's honestly risky business.

This being Ozbargain, I was expecting more Toyota than Rolls Royce.
And we should warn that the gas cartridges for these are hellish expensive. But if you are not doing winter mountain hikes, you can save a lot by using an adaptor and those cheap (~$1) butane cartridges.

P.S. You definitely do need a wind shield with these if you don't want to be carrying a whole lot extra gas to make up for the lost heat.
Personally, I'm a Trangia fan. An elegant Swedish hiking cookset from a more refined age :-)

I kind of keep wanting a reason to try something new like this but the trangia is just so good

    • You can refill with this thing as well:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404185121317

I use 100g propane canister (smallest I could find) 24 cups boil:
      https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/camp-cooking/c…

    • Kmart has cheap gas canisters for these

    • note, this uses isobutane, propane-butane mix.

      • It should also work with pure butane just fine, except in extreme cold, as the boiling point is close to 0C.
Propane is added to maintain pressure in cold weather, without needing to pre-heat the cannister, e.g. stick in inside you clothes. But the mixes need a heavier, more expensive cannister.

        • and higher pressure means higher flow, which means more power

    • Trangia: cheap fuel.. Because you can make the fuel yourself while you wait for it to bring 20mL of water to the boil 😁

I LOVE this stove. Didn’t skip a beat trekking through Patagonia for a month. The perfect UL piece of kit

  • Ordered one, I have been looking at this for ages lol

I got one like this years ago and it's been fine for the few times I've been hiking for a night or two. Other end of the spectrum I guess. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185149122855

  • Just bought a Kovea Spider. Should I have bought this instead?

    • ?

    • Kovea is great as well

  • if you're just boiling water you can't beat this for 30 bucks: https://www.snowys.com.au/furno-stove

  • Got both orders lol. I put one on eBay, grab it :)
