I know its a topic that has been debated immensely, but since OP has mentioned it, what's your personal preference out of the two?
Nc700 because of the mic quality.
Also had the xm5 but sold them off again.
Nc700 just perfect for my use case.
Why did you sell the xm5?
Invested the cash in shares. Didn't think I needed more headphones as the cupboard was full of unopened ones at the time from the thousands of deals for headphones. Also lots of people complained about the comfort factor on the xm5 when wearing for a longer time so I just sold for $100 profit.
I’ve tried out both side by side. The XM4’s were actually the better sounding can but for one big caveat which pushed me to the 700’s. The XM4’s sounded clearer but the vocals sounded a little “metallic” and “tin can” like. Everything else sound-wise was better - instruments had more sparkle and it sounded livelier. The 700’s sounded like it had a thin veil over the sound. However, they sounded much more natural, especially when it came to the vocals.
I’m no audio expert, so your experience may be different to mine.
The sony's fold flat into a laptop bag / backpack / etc, and the ANC is better. For travelling/commuting it's the only pick.
Isn't NC 700 comparable to XM5?
The 700 has terrible NS and comparable to my crappy Kmart ones.

I had the XM3 and now got the Bose 700 from the last sale when it was just over $200 and couldn't resist that bargain. the Bose 700 is now my daily driver because the mic quality is much better but the downside is it doesn't fold as compact as the XM3. I would still recommend the Bose 700 though.
And here I thought paying $309 for the 700s was too much lol
XM4 IS THE BEST. GREAT HEADPHONES
Hey all, I just received the refurb XM5 and all that I received was the headphones in a case in a plain white box, no cables or user manual. Is this the standard for refurb? Haven’t tested them because need to charge the cans
