Eufy got busted for dodgy practices then lied to coverup before finally coming clean. Prob better to avoid them generally

"In the thread and accompanying videos, Moore shows proof that Eufy cameras are sending data that is said to be “stored locally” to the cloud, even when cloud storage is disabled."'

    • I've found reolink not bad for the price if anyone is looking for other brands

      • Can they save locally though? That's the biggest feature I'm after at the moment. It seems you can run some hacks with Home Assistant to iCloud but it still isn't true local saving.

        • I currently store to mico sd cards in the cameras.

          • @shap08: Ahh, I'm after something that you can hold onto in the weird situation that a camera might be stolen.

            • @JSONBourne: I was having a look for cameras too and came across this pack on the JB Hi Fi website which have local storage on the hub (they're on sale too!)

I was no aware that these cameras took a SD card - mine don't.

The local storage for these would be with a Homebase 3, not the older homebase that comes with these.

I bought the 4 camera pack of EufyCam 3 (with solar) & Homebase 3 - it takes a standard 2.5" hard drive and stores locally. I then added two of these 2 Pro cameras to my system, and their videos are also stored in the Homebase.

The system does send a snapshot of the video via the cloud so that you get a notification that shows you what triggered the camera. It does not send the entire video - if you click on the notification, the app is opened and plays the video from your homebase.

That was 12 months ago, and the "glitch" was fixed.

If i were to buy these Eufy ones i would just buy refurbished off their website. Much cheaper and everyone says they rock up virtually new.

    • yeah this same kit only cost me $400. I can't neg this deal due to this, but I wish I could give a neutral.

      • Yep definitely the better option, did you grab a grade B or C and did it end up being new condition?

        • +1

C, and yes legitimately couldn't physically fault them. I can't imagine what the B's are like.

          • @Hinee: Good to hear! Will buy them next year sometime when my house build is done.

        • +1

Bought C and it's completely fine. The only noticeable 'defect' is the glossy black front has some light scratches if you look close in the right light. (Like any glossy black plastic has the moment you do anything with it.)

Once mounted you couldn't tell the difference.

Was very happy for the $400. Could use the PayPal pay in four as well.

          • @Duff5000: Also bought a C Grade 2C Pro 3 camera pack with a homebase 2 (for $315), just a few light scratches over the glossy casing - camera lenses are perfect. Mounted yesterday and added to an existing setup :)

    • Agreed.
      I recently bought the 3c (4K) 4 pack with Gen 3 homebase.
It was C grade and other than some very fine scratches on the gloss black front of a couple cameras, everything else looked brand new
Plus it was cheaper than buying the 2c version of cameras new

Bonus was the new homebase also works with my older wired/wireless doorbell

    • But what's the battery life like though?

if anyone wants the latest version with expandable hdd

    • I would spend the extra to get the solar version if installing them outside though. Mine are still all at 100% battery after 9 months and two have clocked up around 3,500 videos each in that time. These would be OK for low traffic inside installs though.

      • Oh yeh for sure. $1799 for those however.

        • I got mine for around $1400 in January - I would guess that they will be back below that next month for BF.

  • Eufy are slow to trigger alert. I have lots of captures of peoples backs. Makes it hard to show their faces to police
