  • What does the SAMSUNG@PAX do? It doesn't apply to the basket here.

    • Hmm, it's supposed to provide a 25% discount, but perhaps it doesn't work anymore.

      As per this page: https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/pax-2023/thank-you/
The 990 Pro should be eligible.

The code you entered did not affect your order. Please note, codes may only be valid for certain items or in certain conditions.

        on monitor

        Voucher has been applied successfully.

but your correct does show it should be eligible

        *25% off the RRP of the SSD 990 PRO 1TB (MZ-V9P1T0BW), SSD 990 PRO 2TB (MZ-V9P2T0BW), SSD 990 PRO 4TB (MZ-V9P4T0BW) starting from 12:00am (AEDT) 6th October 2023 and ends 11:59pm (AEDT) 10th October 2023 unless withdrawn earlier.

        • Think it's already applied without the code

          • @badonde: Yea I was about to say - probably because they already have it at 25% off without needing the coupon unlike the monitors. End date of the sale price shown on the product page is the same as the end date in the T&Cs on that linked page too.

            @SvcKpc

          • @badonde: thank you i understand now

            $699x0.75 = $524.25
            $524.25x0.90 = $471.825
            $471.82-$50 = $421.82

personally, waiting for WD SN850X to drop below $380 again

  • How are these with heat, asking for a friend who is too lazy to google it. Some PCI 4 m.2s get so hot!

    • +1

They get hot, as long as you got a heatsink on it you are good!

  • Is there any bargain on the 2TB version?

    • +1

as Subscribe to Save $50 promo requires $350 minimum spend best you'll get is $222.08

      $329.00x0.75 = $246.75 (preapplied discount)
      $246.75x0.90 = $222.075 (10% off first order)

okay deal likely cheaper upcoming prime day

worth taking into consideration SSD prices may rise

TrendForce doesn’t predict NAND ASPs will continue to drop steeply after Q3. It expects to see a rebound in high-end 3D NAND pricing first but doesn’t give any firm prediction on whether NAND ASPs will continue to fall or rise in Q4 2023

  • Why this over NM790? All the benchmarks i can find shows it equalling the 990 pro, and it’s a lot cheaper.

    • The Samsung has a few advantages, however real life performance won't be that different.

      • DRAM Cache
      • Faster Random Read/Write Speeds
      • Faster Sequential Write Speed
      • 8 channel controller vs the Lexar's 4 channel controller
      • Encryption Support
  • +3

NB.. buying from Samsung directly, comes with inherently highly risks and issues… and noted from many ozbargainers and others in the past..

  • Is this even worth it? A crucial 4TB M.2 SSD can be bought for $299 delivered. You have to ask yourself if you really need the extra speed when that one already reads at 3.5GB/s.

    • Crucial are notorious for mixing up components in their SSDs without saying anything about it. Chances are you're getting a cheaper crappier controller, which could result in significantly worse performance, worse endurance, higher failure rate. Also at that price you are guaranteed to not be getting DRAM cache or TLC.

The 990 Pro is for people who want a top level consumer SSD.

  • This thing is mysteriously back available for preorder today just in time after the sale ended ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • back at $700 RRP, mysterious indeed

      • If this was still available at the discounted price, I would have taken a punt and preorder because it is AU stock. If things go bad like with the reviews on Samsung online store then I will just request a chargeback/PayPal dispute. Maybe I’ll just wait for eBay sales now as Amazon AU rarely takes hundreds off newer released local stock Samsung NVMe SSDs.
