You can't beat the deal where the D'longhi website sold everything for 50% off. This would still do :D

I bought the PACEM77 and was impressed by the performance. I will get this one for the 2nd room. The bigger, the better.

  • how silent is it? let me rephrase it how loud is it? in 2021 i bought 3.3kw portable ac and damn thing would make loud noise every 10-15 min, it was very difficult to sleep and on hotter day it barely cooled my 5x4m room. Is 2.6kw is enough to cool the bedroom?

    • Says 63db. https://www.delonghi.com/en-au/pacem93silent-pinguino-portab…

If you want efficiency and quiet then you have to get a split system. Portable is not ideal as you have only one hose and it makes a vacuum for warmer air to seep in. They don't sell dual hoses around here unfortunately.

      • I would love to but I m currently renting a unit, I plan to move out in next 3-4 months so portable ac is what i can use rn, that previous ac didn't turn on when i tried it 2 weeks ago, shit just stopped working apparently after 2 summers.

        • Try and leave the AC outside your room and hook up a hose somehow

          • @Stopback: hmm what do you mean?

            • @V003: This means to keep the portable AC outside the room (or on the deck or balcony), then jerryrig/tape the pipe from the cold air outlet to your window duct panel: blowing cold air in, and leaving the hot air and noise outside.

If you leave the portable outside on the front patio unsecured/unsheltered it could go missing or breakdown.

De'Longhi must be deaf if they think 63db is silent

      • Need to find those commerical style ones

        Or setup a fridgr

      • Honeywell have a dual hose version. Bought one about 6 years ago. You can also modify most portable units by adding an external intake duct.

Mine is so damn loud but I did not mind it due to tinnitus 😂

    Delonghi quality is quite bad.

  • -2

Pretty inefficient compared to a split system. The data sheet says it draws 1000W from the wall with a cooling capacity of 2600W. My Fujitsu draws half of that for the same cooling capacity.

    • +5

Target audience is renters for whom the owner won't buy a split system and want to survive the upcoming summer.

    • +1

'Portable' being the key difference. This is for people that want a quick cheap cooling solution for small rooms.

Split system w/ install is going to be like 5x + the cost and require approval if renting.

  • I was really surprised by an older kogan reverse cycle portable unit. Pretty quiet for the power of the unit. The new models seem to much louder.

  • +1

These units will work better in theory although its from Kogan.

Any portable air conditioner with 1 exhaust horse will create a negative pressure in the room and suck the hot air back into the room.

They should re release the GE skinny mini. Best renters a/c of all time.

    • The ones they should release are the bloody ones the US has these days,

      https://www.midea.com/us/air-conditioners/window-air-conditi…

They have ones that fit half outside the window, half inside, so you close most of the sound off. REVOLUTIONARY. But we apparently just dont have them anywhere. WHY? who knows….

      • -1

Because absolutely eff all Australian houses have windows that open vertically.

  • Can this air-con heat up a room?

  • A bit misleading as all ACs have fans and dehumidify settings.
BTW, these portable ACs suck air from within the room and expel it outside therefore not very efficient, since not only is cooled air lost to outside but worse, warm outside is also sucked into the room from whatever leaks there are in the room.

    • I put the split on in the main room so this thing could suck in some cool air, that's true, they're inefficient. But, that's the only way when you're renting.

  • Wouldn't buy from this brand anymore. Got a portable aircon, didn't work well. Got replacement, same thing but couldn't really test and now probably out of warranty.

Picked one up as I am quite keen to try something for this coming summer. Fingers crossed!

Watch some videos on install, it's very good. I did not notice any changes in my bill after running it on hot summer days and nights. It's noisy as hell though.

      • thanks, yeah I did watch one on installing it and that helped me feel a bit better about the whole thing.
