As someone with over $15,000 in coffee equipment, I still recommend this machine, especially at this price. It's got a lot of features packed into it, especially for milk drinkers, and produces a good cup. Unless you have $1k+ to spend, this is a good option.

Edit: I thought this was the plus model. I would get the Plus model if you can.

This + decent grinder (Specialita maybe?) would be a combo I'd take over anything else in the Breville/Sunbeam range short of the dual boiler.

Very capable little machines for the price

Yup. BDB is the best value espresso machine out there, but if you have only 1k to spend on a setup, I'd suggest $600 of that go to the grinder!

    • What's the lot of features?

It has a temperature sensor in the steaming wand. What else is there that other similar machines usually don't have? This model doesn't have it. I assume, by the model no and most of the description, this is Bambino, not Bambino Plus.

Anyway, that's just one feature - I'm curious what's the rest of the lot packed into it.

        3 second heat up

      • Admittedly, I mistook this for the Plus model, which does add auto steaming, temperature control and has a larger tank. See my edit.

But this still has volumetric control, PID, pre-infusion, decent steam pressure for size and includes a non-dual wall basket for better extractions out of the box.

I read "especially for milk drinkers" in the tone of a Skyrim guard.

    • Agree. Not sure I'd get the Plus though. Also they look pretty nice in some colours too.

  • "The Breville Bambino Plus delivers third wave speciality coffee at home". LOL

    • Confusing as this isn't Bambino Plus.

  • Not a fan of these personally, but you'd want to get the plus version if keen

  • Definitely plus. This one sucks

    • Why does it "suck"?

      • Milk frother is 4x slower
        Maybe no temperature sensor?
        Jug is different and worse
        Slower heat up
Can't remember other reasons why my friend returned it and got the plus

        • " Slower heat up"

Yeah your friend is smoking the good stuff here. They both use thermojet which is like legit 3 second heat ups.

          • @Jofzar: Ok fair enough, maybe it was related to the time it took to heat the milk

        • Waiting for somebody to weigh in saying Bambino Plus "sucks", because it doesn't have a grinder.

Then a dual boiler or something. Then a better grinder. Then auto tamping. Finally a 58mm portafilter.

  • $344 at Goodguys commercial Sea salt colour

    • Hi is it still this price at GG Commercial? Am trying to sign up to their platform. Thank you

  • These are good but if you want to get deeper into the hobby then you're stuck with a bunch of 54mm accessories which I wouldn't recommend. 58mm is the industry standard.

So i'd probably go for a Gaggia classic pro over this + good cheap hand grinder or cheapest possible good electric grinder depending on your preferences

Although on the flipside, since this is so cheap you'll have money left over to go for accessories.

  • @Anders what would you recommend for a grinder+coffee machine? Or do you think buying separate equipments is better?

    • Depends on the person. I think the Breville Oracle when it's under 2k is a great product for people who want good milk coffees at low effort who would otherwise turn to a fully automatic. The quality difference is monumental. However, you can spend 2k and get better milk and black coffee by buying a BDB and spending on a good grinder, like the newer DF64V. Any left over cash I'd use to buy a calibrated tamper like a Normcore and some Pullman baskets.

But if you buy commodity coffee and are not willing to pay speciality coffee prices, like $14-25 per 250g, then a Breville Bambino Plus + SGP will be as far as you need to go.

      • Great..ya.. not into speciality coffee.. just need a good one..
Also don't want to spend >1k as of now
        Thanks

  • I have the plus. Really impressed with the auto frothing component - does a great job for something you just put on the tray and set it off. Means that making a latte takes only a couple of minutes.

Also a bambino plus owner, very happy with it. Pair with a smart grinder and you are good to go.
the barista express when on sale is a very good buy too.

Have had this model for a couple of years now, would recommend. Thermojet is way more convenient than the older Thermocoil setup. Steaming the milk manually works well; I personally prefer to do it myself hence why I didn’t spring for the Plus model.

Only note is that the portafilter is lightweight and it only came with dual wall baskets. I already had a better portafilter and single wall baskets from a previous Breville so that didn’t bother me.
