oh , that is expensive scotch fillet , must be somthing very very special about it, I havent seen it this price ever per kg, !!!!

Over $46/kg for scotch fillet. Are you assuming average guys having a bbq have no idea about the price of meat?

  • +3

Why do they try and lie about how much the meat is worth?
I highly doubt that they normally charge $46.1538 per kilo, whereas $15.23 may be a good price for steak but ordering and pre paying $99 for meat that you won't get for months is just crazy.

If you take anything from this then please just be honest about how much you really charge and don't just give bs numbers.

Why the FAWK are we Aussies paying soooooooo much for Meat!!
Don't we have million Sheep, Cows and pigs in this VAST Land of ours???
If the winging (excuse the speeling!) Farmers grow more larger herds and Meat should be heaps cheaper!?? right??
but NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The Farmers are freakin SMART! they do not oversupply the Market, why would they?
if they can get $200 a carcus, then why should they triple their herd size and get only $70 a carcus!!!,

lol! I thiink I have answered my own Question!!!

There are 25.9 million meat cattle and 73.1 million sheep in Australia…

But it's not the farmers who make a killing (in profits), it's the big retail monopolies - Coles & Woolies.

      • And all the good stuff gets exported

Yes.. kind of odd when I was in the UK a few months back and lots of Oz wine and some meat was cheaper than here… companies here like to use the 'cost of shipping' to explain why things are expensive here, yet this cost does not seem to impact when going the other way.

I usually get decent scotch fillet -on sale- for around $22. I'd rather be able to pick the pieces myself, which makes a big difference to the taste. There is no way this deal is worth $300. I've never seen scotch fillet @46/kg - unless it was already cooked and was being served at the Hilton ;)

Btw, it's easy to blame Coles and Woolies for the high prices, but they are actually cheaper than most butchers. YMMV depending on where you buy your scotch fillet. I consider Woolies' better than Coles' scotch, but they're both fine. You really need to find a good butcher to get better scotch fillet than Woolies. You most probably won't get better bang for buck as a good butcher will normally charge ~$35/kg for good scotch fillet. Also note that some butchers have crap scotch fillet for the same price (~$35/kg)

Basic Scotch Fillet was $9.99/kg at local IGA a week back. Like you said - you can choose your own. Plus you can take it with you, not wait months!!
