  • You can get the rendang from Woolies for $3.75.

    It is delicious.

Have you tried the Ayam brand version of Malaysian Rendang? Been using that the last 2 months and my dad loves it. Going to give it a try anyway!

      • +1

Yes, I have tried most of the rendang pastes I have found here, and Tean's is head and shoulders above any of the others.

There is one more that is highly recommended that I have not yet tried, but will pick some up at a local Asian supermarket next week. That brand is Dancing Chef.

        • Awesome thanks, will keep an eye out on that one and grab this Tean one at my local next time. I forgot to buy that night.. 😅

  • Have you tried the Laksa before? Does it turn out that creamy or would a pinch of xanthan gum help?

    • +1

Laksa paste is pretty creamy as is but can be bit spicy.
I always use abit of coconut milk to round it off at the end

      • Awesome, thank you! I totally forgot I guess it depends on how much liquid to do compared to what the recipe says but I feel like a lot of companies usually get you to over-liquify a dish, if that makes sense. So either I double up a packet and only add like 150% water of the single pack instructions (adjusting by feel, I'm half Malaysian, just lazy to use actual ingredients 😅) or only 80% of water for a single pack. Great idea to adjust the spicy with the coconut milk at the end. KL/Curry Laksa is supposed to be fairly mild too. My favourite has to be hands down, Assam Laksa. 😍

Tried this before. Indeed very good.

This is one of the good brands but it is not a bargain as you can get this price from almost every Chinese grocery.

  • Made Beef Rendang for the first time last week, and it was incredible. The paste was easy enough to make, but I always struggled to find galangal.
Are these pre-made pastes any good?

    • +1

      These are really good

      • +1

Just ordered a couple. I will do a taste test between this and home made paste.

  • Would recommend these , renewing with chicken and potatoes

The rendang is awesome, but last time I stocked up they were going for $2.65.

This isn't a great price, but still well worth the money.

  • Taste great but oh so spicy!

    • just add extra coconut cream or milk
