Didn’t check Ozbargain for one day and the deal I’ve been hoping for since game launch comes and goes before I get a chance. Gutted!

  • +4

    wow thats super cheap

  • +1

Why don't these editions actually come with the game?

    • Gives people choice whether they want the physical or digital version (see people not happy that the PS5 disc consoles come bundled with download codes). Also allows them to launch a week or two ahead of the game's release so people can have their console all set up and ready to go when the game comes out (probably incentivizes people buying another game within that week so they have something to play on it)

      • +6

LOL, as if it's any of that and not just "Nintendo makes more money by forcing you to buy the game separately".

    • +12

nintendo wants to make more money

      • +1

What? As if they wouldn't increase the bundle price to include the price of the game.

        • +2

I agree, of course they would, I don't get the downvotes you have gotten.

          • +2

@FabMan: The SNES originally launched with no game for US$199 and was later US$99 with a bundled game (Yoshi's Island). If you're trying to move more consoles then a free/bundled game costs you effectively nothing because the people buying the bundle are not otherwise in your market of potential buyers anyway.

The current trend of no pack-in game is lame. Nintendo could easily include 1-2 games that often go on deep discount for a few bucks.

            • +1

@caitsith01: I remember when I bought the Sega Mega Drive II with 2 x 6 button controllers, Mortal Kombat and Columns included (and I think there was another game as well…cant remember).

            • +2

@caitsith01: Are you applying what work worked 30+ years ago to today? I'm a big retro nerd, I'm aware of those deals, it doesn't mean Nintendo need to do it today. Just look at Switch sales, they are still high with almost 18 million units last financial year.

Someone asked why it wasn't included, if Nintendo did, they would raise the price of it. Some people already own the game, they wouldn't want to rebuy it with a console. I guess it doesn't matter, they didn't and it still sells in high numbers.

              • @FabMan: You haven't actually identified anything different today to what worked with the SNES (or N64… or Wii… or Wii U… all of which had a bundled game during their lifecycle).

                • @caitsith01: "You haven't actually identified anything different today"

Switch doesn't include a bundled game, Switch sales make it the third best selling console of all time, it is still selling well, and I had already pointed out it doesn't need too. N64 and Wii U did bundle in a game, they sold poorly in comparison to their prior units and their competition, so it seems that strategy doesn't show that it always works.

PlayStation 2 didn't bundle a game, Nintendo DS offered the console with a game and without. Those two consoles are the only two that outsold the Switch. Looks like the strategy doesn't always guarantee anything.

                  • @FabMan: Your assertion was that Nintendo would raise the price of the console if there was a bundled game. That didn't happen with any of the examples given.

Anyone buying a zelda edition console will be buying or have already bought the game anyway.

  • +3

Come on Bezos, let the algorithm do the job please

  • wow thats a good price.
I have the collectors edition of the game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, still havent' opened it lol.

  • Surely Amazon price match within the hour

    • +3

But we OzBargainers will clear the stock from Catch before Amazon gets the chance

      • yep you are right

  • Discounted Catch gift cards anywhere?

    • Prezze should have them? Haven't checked but I remember that I swapped it once. And the Special shopping card I once bought using Commbank seems to include a store called "Catch".

    • Up to 8% via Reward Gateway (I think they sometimes do 10% but not 100% certain).

A couple of other platforms there, maybe not too common though

  • +8

Cheap but switch 2 next year.

    • +9

According to this site no-one should ever buy a console again because there will always be a slim/OLED/next generation version within the next 12-18 months.

  • +1

Switch 2 being released next year…

  • Looks like the pricing error has been caught. Missed it.

  • Shows $519

  • +1

    Too slow… $519
    $467.10 with OnePass

  • What is this price… so cheap!

  • Is anyone able to share a copy of a receipt or screenshot of the listing for price protection please :D

  • Was this catch direct or marketplace?

  • +1

    Did anyone manage to checkout?

When I was at checkout the price jumped to 519…

  • -1

wait for next year and Switch 2. Will run zelda at 60fps. 30fps on the switch is awful

  • Maybe price error $519 for me

  • +1

I think Gamesmen ebay (plus member) selling $459 ($509 - $50) for this version.

  • Switch 2/Pro next year surely.

  • +3

What a cracking price! The cheapest OLED (non specific) was $370 but with eBay Plus via Big W.

  • Nooooo!

  • +1

    +1 for username BHL

  • Dang it! I missed it

  • Now $518……$130 increase.

    • +3

Criminal that Nintendo can charge so much for an eight year old chip. To the rest of the industry today the Tegra X1 is garbage.

  • -1

Without the branding they have been sub $400 before. Is the Zelda brand worth that much in reality?

  • +1

Thought I missed a great deal, OLED model + a game for $390, turns out game edition but no game.

Only time played Zelda was to install home brew on Wii. :D
