Decent price. Probably price matching Digidirect and Camera Pro prices.

Silver is out of stock, there is only black up for sale.

Other stores have silver if that's your preference, Camera Pro, and 2.8% CR cash back.

Crazy how the X100V is around the same price, that camera has been super popular lately

    • +6

That's a super inflated price though. There's no shot in hell an X100V is worth that much.

    • +1

People on marketplace trying to sell them for 3k. Dreaming

    • +1

XE-4s are a bit less, but people seem to be listing for ~$2000.

Would love to swap my XE-4 for a XT5 for not much more cash.

      • +2

XE4s were less than 1k lol. I think they're currently marketed used towards FOMO ppl that missed out on the X100V when they were much cheaper.

Even spending 1500 on the XE4 is way too much when X-Pro 2 can be had for more or less the same, and X-Pro 1 for much, much less.

        • +2

And Fujifilm thinks there's no market for an X-E5!

          • +1

@tor: XE4 probably sold like crap at the stores to not warrant a direct replacement. People are only jacking up the prices after they have discontinued it.

And then you have your usual TikToker or Youtube "influencers" with shorts/reels saying things like hurr don't buy X100V buy this! But really, it's a straight downgrade compared to earlier XEs.

        • +1

Yeh I got mine with the 27 mm mk2 for < $1100 from memory.

Honestly been my favourite camera I have ever owned, and I have owned a lot. However, I would also love a new XT5 as I don't need the ultra small form factor anymore.

            @andyfc:

Yeh I got mine with the 27 mm mk2 for < $1100 from memory.

that is honestly really cheap. One thing i like about the XE-4 is the size compared to my X-Pro 2

My next body will be XH-2 for sure. will have to wait for few more years for the price to drop.

            • @dukeGR4: It was a thorough OZB style deal that had a few layers, from JB. Yeh I want the 40MP too.

              • @andyfc: i just want the proper joystick. the nipple on my X-Pro isn't too great to use i hardly use it. I'm not going to miss the shutter and ISO dials as I only ever use Aperture priority.

I won this camera in a photographic competition a week ago… the film simulators on this thing are awesome, plus you can add 7 more into the custom functions using the film simulator 'recipes' on the Fuji X Weekly app. The eye tracking is also great, but haven't had a chance to use that so much - it has only been a week!

(not associated with Fuji, just thrilled with the camera)

    • +4

Did you win with a photo you took? If so, can we see?

      • Yes I did 😊
It only exists in a private Facebook group though (sorry)

    • Congrats Cryssie!

Out of curiosity, what was the competition?

Sounds like you are having a ball with your new camera.

      • Thank you! I'm probably still shaking, to be honest. I went to a photography conference a couple of weeks ago and it was an internal competition between the 500 participants 😊

  • why this versus mirrorless nikkon or canon?

    • +4

Pretty subjective, but I shoot a fuji for the ergonomics.

I still have a few Nikon DSLRs kicking around though.

    • I had used canon full frame sale, currently own Sony a7iii, owned 2 unit of xt3, 1 unit of xt4

The colour of Fuji, in my own opinion, is unbeatables. Only reason I own Sony a7iii, is because need of full frame and less noise on high ISO.

If I have a choice, I will always choose Fuji due to its colour, but unfortunately real professional world, people want/select full frame.

      My preference
      1. Fuji - nice colour, less work in editing
      2. Canon - but can't afford, long run, expensive on lenses, no 3rd party lenses available yet, unless U want to shoot using adapter or manual
      3. Sony - cheaper than canon in long run
      4. Nikon, I never think of it, I think they are getting less popular. They shut of indonesian official store or something like that few years back

      • Ah okay, found plenty of 3rd party lenses for canon on dslr, not the same for mirrorless, fair enough!

Had success purchasing 2nd hand lenses on eBay from Japan in great condition for canon dslr.

      • canon actively blocks third party lenses.

      • +1

Nikon is getting less popular? you're bloody dreaming.

Z8/Z9 is literally the best mirrorless camera you can buy and are extremely popular. They also have an entire catalogue of telephoto lenses which Sony and Canon lack.

        • D850 is my fave for stage photos and gigs too.

    • Physical control dials are a huge part of the appeal.

They also have a very good selection of native well priced fast primes that other ecosystems lack.

  • Anyone suggest a good lens to pair with this camera for street and portrait photography?

    • +3

      XF33mm

      • +2

        Thanks covid

        • +5

XF23mm is also a good lens.

          Depends on budget.

    • +1

for street you can't go wrong with 23mm F1.4 LM WR. 56mm for portrait. This is the 35/85mm equivalent combo.

      Otherwise go with 18mm F1.4 + 33mm F1.4 (28/50mm)

Fujicrons are good too if you're on a budget but i find them to be too clinical, even more so than the newer high-res F1.4 offerings.

      • Consider XC 35 f2 as a lens that's very similar to the 33 1.4 but way cheaper

        • that's not true, XC35 F2 is similar to XF35 F2, not the 33mm. But i wouldn't bother with the XC due to the cheap build quality. Fujicrons are really beautifully made and highly recommended.

back to the 33 1.4 - it's a very different lens. From what i've read it seems to be the amalgamation of the old 35mm F1.4 in terms of bokeh characteristics with the sharpness + silent focusing of the Fujicron 35mm F2.

  • -1

If you buy camera buy Sony pair with its own lenses even better with Carl-Zeiss ones. None of the Canikons etc can beat Sony in cameras.

    • +1

Sony is the Tesla of cameras. they were revolutionary back in the days but since then the competitors have entered the scene.

If money no object, Nikon makes the best glass atm. Their Plena and their F1.2 beat everything that Sony had.

In 2023, you would have to be a bloody idiot to buy a brand-new Sony Alpha and then drop mad Gs on them. You're better off with Nikon or Fuji GFX. But if bought used, i would have to agree with you, Sony does offer the best value due to the sheer amount of lenses flooding the market.

  • Was seriously looking like getting a Fujifilm for my next camera as X-Trans and crop factor was appealing for landscapes, but with the new models commanding a 30% price increase over the previous generations has made me look at alternatives, even if I need to spend more. I just didn't think APS-C is worth that kinda money, plus is seems Fujifilm is very popular with a lot of OOS models, so Fuji can milk this a bit.

Ultimately I feel the end game is FF so I might as well just go there, probably with a a7R.

    • Just go Sony ff and chuck on some film presets of choice in Lightroom and call it a day

(I say as someone who has spent way too much money buying and selling into every brand except canon, at least once in last 15 years)

    • +1

dude, no one's asking you to buy a brand new body lol. There's always better technology around the corner. And i take that you're specifically referring to the X100V?

I purchased a used X-Pro 2 early this year for only $980, best camera i've bought and i sold most my full frame gear and still in the process of selling off the rest. just buy a used XT2 or XT3 and start shooting, spend the rest on glass. On Fuji bodies you don't actually want it to be too new, they look more clinical. Try used ones with X-Trans III sensor.

Another thing, certain Fuji lenses actually have character. some of the lenses have swirly bokeh and have that 3D pop which unfortunately i haven't been able to replicate with my full frame cameras unless i put on a film-era lens. And don't forget the gorgeous Fujicrons….

Also, don't worry about FF end game. Fujifilm got you with Medium Format and they're cheaper than you think :) plus Fuji bodies and lenses hold their value so well when used :)

      • Was looking at the X-S20, which surprised me a bit with its price jack. $2000 for a body plus whatever I spend on lenses. Let’s say a ILCE7RM4A is $4K, lenses for the FF would be more than an APS-C for similar focal lengths, and as you said Fuji's make some nice lenses with nice characteristics.
100% sure the Fuji would be great, especially since I'm always around base ISO and use a tripod if I need to run longer exposures. The A7R was there so I could crop 61MP as a replacement to having a longer lens, because weight is important. It's such a difficult choice, and FF is a lot of money. I'm not a business, I don't make money from my work, but I do tend to keep my bodies for 7 years or so, I almost run them to death, mech-shutter counts in the 100's (K), I see no need to replace a perfectly good camera for the sake minor improvements. And in 7 years’ time I'm almost certain that the E mount and Sony FF ecosystem will still be very popular.

Had a look at the Fujifilm GFX 100 II, and the samples when released. Yes, it’s cheaper than I thought. Let's just say my jaw hit the floor when I saw the samples. Just pixel perfect, it really was next level. No idea what its limitations are, it's just too much for a hobby, so never really looked into it in depth. But those images…WOW!

Good to see people posting these deals on OZB, because a killer deal could sway me in one direction or another.

        • X-S20 is way over-priced I do not even understand how Fujifilm management came up with that pricing. But they're still flying out of the door because it's marketed towards content creators. They probably figured out the sweet spot in terms of spec and pricing and that people are willing to spend more if you give them what they want.

GFX 50S ii is $4488 atm, brand new from Digidirect. That's cheaper than Sony A7RV atm actually. It's probably slower than A7RV in terms of process and operation but it does bring the whole notion of medium format closer to fullframe in terms of real world performance/size/price than say Pentax and Hasselblad and what not.

  • Great camera - I sold one recently and picked up an X-H2s.

For photography - the 40mpx sensor is fairly noisy at 1600iso+. The extra resolution is sometimes nice, but doesnt have the same sharpness as a FF/MF image. Honestly the 26mpx XTrans sensor from last generation is really all you need for this system.

For anyone contemplating shooting some video on this - beware, the output is garbage. The only mode worth considering is the oversampled 6k (4K hq) with all intra recording. The X-H2 which shares the same sensor doesn’t have these issues.

  • +1

APSC sensor camera for the price of full frame camera.. in fact more expensive than some really good full frame cameras out there (i.e. Sony A7iii). I love Fuji colours personally but not to the extent that I'd buy a Fuji APSC camera over Sony full frame, no way. Fuji, being a newer camera, may no doubt have some compelling advancements in its sleeves, but physics is physics, actual sensor size does matter. You will never get the same dynamic range, low light performance or the bokeh that you'd get from a full frame camera with an equivalent lens.

    • +1

lens on full frame are generally bigger and more expensive too which is worth considering,

I did go from a XT5 to a A7III and do miss the XT5. Since I got a a7III used the value for the XT5 didn't make too much sense to keep, I still have most of my fuji lenses and shot on a xpro2 when I'd be out during the day, and take the A7III for night/tripod where I won't be far from the car. Mainly use the 50 and 85 on the Sony,

AF tracking on the XT5 was lot better and easier to use too

      • I can see why you think what you think based on your lens selection for Sony. 50 mm and 85 mm (I suppose you're not referring to G master lens here) are some of the most notorious lenses of Sony line up (they should never have invented this particular 50 mm lens, it's so painful to use with its extremely slow autofocus). If you use some of Tamron lenses on the Sony (which are sharp, fast and affordable), that will be a fair comparison to your Fuji lenses (Fuji lens line up is really good, they rarely produce bad lenses whereas with Sony, you must do your research to pick the nicer lenses). With a good Sony lens (or a good Tamron lens), Sony autofocus is fantastic and will hit focus much quicker and accurately than Fuji especially in low light.. (the reason is simple physics). Having said that, Fuji T series cameras are really nice to use and built robust. I just give priority to image quality/dynamic range more than anything else hence I pick Sony. I believe Fuji also have a full frame camera line up, though they are extremely expensive and have a very limited lens selection..

        • I haven't had issues with AF for stills, mainly when it comes ti tracking, I do have a Tamron 70-180 as well but am more likely to buy a Tamron 28-70 than anymore primes in the future for the FE.

          • @kirbycake: If you buy 28-75 G2 and 20-40 (both by Tamron with constant F2.8) then you're all set. If you don't want F2.8, then either Tamron 17-50 F4 or Sony G20-70 would be fantastic all-in-one options (all of which are very very sharp as well). I've tried most of the above lenses but since I'm sort of an all-in-one guy, have settled on my Tamron 28-200 lens for a while now (which is a fantastic compromise - it's not the sharpest or the fastest lens out there but still reasonably sharp and fast - and most importantly affordable).

            • @npnp: I was also looking at the Tamron 28-200, be great all in one lens that seem to be able to do it all (provided its daylight) did also have a sigma 24-70 but that thing was way too heavy and the copy i had was a lemon so that was no good.

since I'm still set on using the fuji for out and about/travel (smaller setup) I'm leaning towards the 28-75, any input on the 35mm f2.8s? seem like the smallest profile lens for this mount but f2.8 I might as well just take the fuji for the scenario?

              • @kirbycake: For 35 mm, I have two recommendations:
                Samyang 35 mm F1.8
                Sony 35 mm F1.8
Both are extremely sharp, fast and very light lenses and Sony especially produces beautiful bokeh due to its close focus distance and 9 rounded aperture blades.
Sony is a bit pricey but slightly better in autofocus as well. Do not buy Zeiss 35 mm F2.8 nor Tamron 35 mm F2.8 due to their inherited issues. Neither of those are nowhere near as optically good as the ones I've recommended above. Good luck.

                • @npnp: thanks
how bout the rokinon 35mm f2.8? still same as the other f2.8s?

                  • @kirbycake: I'm not a fan of Rokinon (Samyang) F2.8 series, pretty basic lenses. Can't recommend them. In comparison, their F1.8 series has amazing glass and performance that are easily on par with top glass of Sony despite being affordable.

                    • @npnp: thanks, looks like i should be getting a 28-75 mk1 used or g2 new for the next purchase and keep the fuji for compact

  • Decent price. Also keep an eye out on DD 20% ebay sales. If they don't jack (usually dont but have seen this camera $ vary on their store), can also use discounted GCs and/or CB for extra savings
