  • Don't need it this time around, as I'll retain my Platinum in a canter, but still pissed over having just booked a trip last week…

    • can't you cancel and rebook?

      • You can but most fare types involve a "fee"

    • Yeah same lol. How did you get platinum if you don’t mind me asking?

      • +2

Attained it on a big international trip pre Covid. Got extended multiple times while borders were shut.

Now I just fly one short haul domestic sector repeatedly, one to two round trips per month. Usually in Choice, but when double status comes along I occasionally book Business to maximise the boost.

      • Also helps if you are flying with a partner and you can status pool.

Status Pool + Double Status Credit = EZ Platinum

  • incredible!! so needed to retain my Gold

  • +5

    Short travel period :(

    • +3

Yes the most recent DSC offer had the same travel by date. This one should have something like March 2024 at least.

      • I think it’s intentional. VA has also ran a number of sale/cashrewards promo specifically targeting the period before EOY. It’s either they’ve over estimated so have more empty seats than they’d liked or a move to shore up the balance sheet for that all important IPO.

  • +20

Wish VA would introduce lifetime status. I've already got enough status credits to retain Platinum until March 2025, but lifetime status would tempt me to book more flights during these offers.

    • agree good point

    • You got a much better reaction here than you did on your same comment on executive traveller!

      • +1

Yeah it's super interesting the difference!

  • It’d be nice if they’d refunded the flights they cancelled instead of giving me credits I can’t use

    • and credits that can't be upgraded using our platinum upgrades either - found that out on a recent booking, "future flight credits" have to be upgraded to Flex first, even though a Choice booked with regular funds can be upgraded using the platinum upgrades. (especially annoying as pre-administration I'd been trying to get the refund I was owed since VA had cancelled the flight for commercial reasons, it was low flyer volume, not border closure related)

  • When is the next velocity transfer bonus points incentive?I thought it's Oct

      Usually May and November

    • What is this about and is it a really good deal?

Thanks, updated the offer with the link

Hopefully can rebook my work trip

  • Can you use an existing booking if travelling during the promotion period?

    • No, it'll have to be a new booking

  • Any ideas for a Status Run?

    • +2

Depends on your location. However, Sydney/Mel have X to a BNE - CNS - BNE - X in business. That's a total 540 status credit with 4 sectors for about 1.5k. This would automatically qualify for Gold. That's in my opinion sweet spot. Platinum is not worth it since you only get free economy X seats, upgrade to business (rarely available due to only 8 seats available on most of their flights), and fly early.

      • Nice… yeah based in BNE … looking at a few options to top up I guess, the Wifey is Gold and has enough before the review period… Just wondering if its worth it to do a couple of runs for Plat!

        • From what I read from BNE, the anecdotes that I've seen online is business on:

          BNE-> SYD/MEL —> ADL/Hobart/Launceston

If you have time, maybe departing from OOL could potentially be cheaper depending on day and time.

      • Fly ahead is totally worth it IMO. It allows you to book a relatively cheap Choice fare late in the day, and then fly an earlier flight they would have charged more for.

Of course nothing is guaranteed, and it won't work at peak times such as long weekends, but I have been known to fly ahead by 8 to 10 hours with no questions asked.

        • Hahaha Agreed, Esp if you are traveling with the Fam… Even though Plat can only fly ahead with 4 compainions, just recently I got a Fly Ahead from Cairns for 6 of us… I think we saved nearly 1k 😂

          Status run ideas?

        • On a choice fare? I’ve been knocked back on that at the standard check in counter, but I haven’t yet tried at the lounge. I have gold status.

          • +1

@GeneralSkunk: Call them … I mean, Check in counter has worked for me as well… but I call them and get to move it before I head to the airport

      • Fly ahead is good. I've got this even when I dropped back to Gold though.
They need to increase the premium entry hours.
Business upgrades with platinum are almost unusable. At the time they are available usually the business fare is cheaper than the flex fare required to purchase before upgrade.

        • With gold you can’t fly ahead on a choice fare, only flex.

          • @Wandersen: AH… thats a stupid feature from VA… I mean if you're flying flex you can change your tickets for free anyways.

        • You can now upgrade to Business from a choice fare for a limited time… Hopefully they make it a permanent thing

Limited time offer: From 27 September 2023 until 31 March 2024, members can request to upgrade using their complimentary UpgradeMe benefit when flying on a Choice fare. When upgrading from a Choice fare, two upgrade credits are required on flights up to 1,000 miles, and four upgrade credits are required on flights above that are 1,001+ miles

          • @asbindia: Interesting, how do you do this? Through the VA app or?

            • @GeneralSkunk: Nah, you've got to call them … before you do that ensure there are Business Reward Seats available… they will only upgrade you if there are Business Rewards Seats

              • @asbindia: Thanks. Sounds like they like talking to their customers!

                • @GeneralSkunk: Hahaahaha dont remind me about the email's I have sent… I think 3 years in a row I have had at least 2 upgrades expire

  • +1

Anyone with any idea status run of ~250 from Melbourne? Thanks haha

    • A comment above suggested Sydney/Mel to CNS with BNE stopover in business can earn 540 status credit

May be just do half of the above (eg. return flight in economy instead of business)

  • +1

"Oops, an error occurred while processing your request. Please try again"

    • Perhaps it was a daylight savings time issue. Working now anyway.

  • Offer activated

  • With QFF not being the same as it was pre-COVID, this is a really good option for a status run!

  • My review date is the 28th of October and I need 14 credits to maintain my status.

Do I need to actually fly by the 28th or can I book for later? Is there any other way to earn 14 points?

    • +1

You need to fly within 4 days time!

  • Does anyone know if flights booked through the biz portal are eligible?

  • My partner recently received 250 SC for signing up credit card. Do you know if they will have something like this soon? He’s only flying for business and not interested in or have time for a status run. He can almost get to platinum but the points are expiring soon. Would love to get platinum.

    • +1

Its not just the SC's its the Eligible Sectors too… basically he has to get onto at least 8 VA Flights to get to Plat

      • He’s done way over the 8 flights. Just need 250 SC. They had a few of these credit card deals last and this year. Not too sure when is the next. We weren’t interested last year. But now very keen with our recent family travel.

        • If he isnt interested or no time for a status run… I think you take the hit… do it for him and Family Pool the SC's…. right now there is no other way

          • @asbindia: Thanks. I’ll think about it. I didn’t realise Status run was a good deal until I saw the upvotes. Interesting.

  • Melb to Cairns (SYD stopover) return via business for $1600 racks up 590 status points (gold is 500pts)

  • My sliver expires May 2024 and need 160 sc to maintain but if upgraded to Gold on 1 Dec 2023, will it actually expire 1 Dec 2024 or May 2024?? I don't know well how it works…

    • If you reach Gold, the new 12 months starts from then.

      • Thank you!!
