  • Link not working?

    Edit: Works suddenly :)

    Looks like a good price.

    • Too quick, site was still updating!

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the toshiba ultrabook?

    • Since no one else responded. The main differences are full ssd vs hybrid and the toshy is lighter.

  • Can you get windows 8 on this for $15?

    • +1

      Yes it does

    • Every single new computer bought anywhere in the world or any Windows 7 bought individually under any licensing scheme from any wholesaler or retailer gets the Windows 8 for $15 thing. It's Microsoft offering it, not retailers.

      • +1

        What he said.

      • +4

Except for ANY computer running Windows 7 Starter, so most (if not all) netbooks do not qualify.

  • For the np530u3c-a03 model, is the 4GB RAM soldered to the board or you can upgrade it?

  • umm whats with the "test" label on top of each image?

    http://flingshot.com.au/collections/types?q=Computers

Not questioning your trustworthiness, seen some great stuff from you after all. Just a bit curious.

    • probably had the 'test' text in the template to test the links worked before they had populated it with real items and images and it has been left behind.

    • +2

That my friend is a perfect real world example of why you don't make changes to a production website…

Will get it fixed asap. Good catch. Send us your email and we will send you out a free USB key.

  • Awesome deal, great timing! Just bought one =)

  • Any deal on Samsung NP550P5C-S03AU?

    • Isn't our normal price good enough? ;)

What would you like to see?

      • +3

added a code for $50 off that unit valid till Sunday as well.

  • :( if only it had a higher res screen.

    • 1600 x 900 will be great, is just too hard to work on 1366 x 768

  • +1

24g SSD is just not enough, can you upgrade by adding more?

    • -1

No. It is soldiered on board.

    • We can replace the 500gb drive with a 128,256 or 512 SSD.

    • You don't seem to understand the purpose of the SSD + HDD hybrid. It doesn't fulfill the same purpose (storage of files, music, games, etc) as a traditional SSD, it's used by Windows as a cache, in order to speed up performance.

If you want an actual SSD, then you'll need top put one in yourself.

      • Or we can do it for you, just email us for a quote.

        • Updated site with pricing.

  • "CPU Intel Core i7 Processor 3517QM"
    isn't 3xxxQM usually quad core?
i would think it was 3517UM

    • Absolutely right, typo, fixed it thanks.

      • Does he get a free USB key too lololol

        • Just saw this, we usually reserve the freebies for catching bugs, if we gave something away for every typo we would be in trouble ;)

  • $160 just for the SSD upgrade (S830) seems a little steep, doesn't it?

    • Depends on whether you are factoring in the time to actually upgrade the machine…

      • -1

No offense intended, but it generally takes about 5 minutes to do that. Add to that, that you (Flingshot) are getting a 500GB HDD out of it, with about $50 on top of PCCG's price for the S830. shrug, I guess some people don't know how / want to bother with opening up their laptops. Don't mind me, the laptop's pricing is already pretty good.

        • +1

Yes we could do it in 5 minutes if we were planning to send people a machine with a blank ssd. Somehow I doubt that would go over too well though. We need to clone each drive individually and then create a recovery drive as well which usually is a 32GB USB key which costs $15-$20.

It is only an option. We have no issue at all with you doing it yourself.

        • +2

Ah, I forgot about the OS. My apologies.

        • All good, now everyone knows what a good deal it is :)

  • Hi All, I'm looking for a laptop as a Christmas present. Can you guys gift wrap it for me?

    • Yes we could definitely. We were actually discussing this with the holidays coming up. I assume you want us to ship directly to the present recipient?

      • Wow thats awesome!! does it cost any extra?

        • +2

If we set it up as a service yes, but if it is just for a few people then we will just do it for free.

  • Looks like a good price and positive for such a responsive rep too!

  • Damn it. I keep saying to myself I don't NEED this, but it's somehow managed to find itself in the checkout. Seriously must resist. MUST RESIST.

Positive for deal, responsive rep, and past history on ozbargain. Will wait another two weeks before deciding on something though.

  • In the market for a 13.3 incher, but this is just priced a little too high for my budget, if I wanted this one I wouldn't hesistate to buy it from this guy. Seems legit and fast responses

    • We can probably come up with something cheaper, just not with the same spec obviously.

      • nvm

      • Cool, well if you do, let us know!

        I might just jump on the Lenovo e320 (i5 2450M/2.50GHz , 4gb ram, 500gb HDD 5400rpm though) for $479.00 otherwise…

        • Nothing in that price range for the ultrabooks unfortunately, and we are just starting to flesh out our range of notebooks.

        • Oh I didn't realise you meant ultrabooks only! what kind of range were you thinking for an ultrabook?

        • There are some pretty cheap HP ultrabooks but they are i3. Will post some options for you tomorrow. Realistically though not much less than $550 I don't think at which point spec for spec this deal is going to be much better.

        • We went through all the options, we can't get those i3 HP sleekbooks any more, so unfortunately for now this is the best deal we can do.

We are planning on adding notebooks soon so we will have some cheaper options then for sure.

        • Great, thanks for the update anyway.

Back to the this deal (NP530U3C-A03 $635), is the 24gb just a normal SSD? Could you just format it for Windows (and program files etc) only and have everything else on the 500GB drive?

Also, for warranty (just in case), if something happens can we just take it straight into a repair centre rather than send it back to you?

        • With warranty yes you can take it direct to Samsung.

With regard to the 24GB SSD see the post a couple down.

        • +1

          Ah ok Thanks!

Sorry about all the questions, but one of the main uses for this will be a portable media player that I hook up to my home theatre. Not sure if you'd know the answer to this but I rip Blu-rays to an ISO and play them through PowerDVD or similar, would it be able to play them OK? I'm just concerned about the speed of the CPU being 1.7ghz. A bit more cpu intensive and what I also do is copy the .m2ts straight out of a ripped blu-ray ISO and play it straight through VLC.

I assume it could handle 1080p youtube and vimeo videos without concern? (again, CPU speed concerned)

Again, sorry about all the questions, it's just that media/Full HD 1080p/Blu-ray is 100% necessary!!

I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has attempted to edited HD video like prores or dnxhd or similar on one of this or a similar machine, and this is probably pushing it but how much does it struggle with RAW video footage (DNG for example) <- extreme long shot. More common would be DSLR footage h.264 compression, which is pretty CPU intensive.

EDIT: Sorry about all the questions, I sound like the biggest douche bag on the face of the earth! Just never bought a computer online before!

Would be handy to be able edit HD video on this, but that's what the new Desktop machine would be for!

        • Questions are totally fine, especially on here, because it means everyone sees the answer so you are helping the lurkers as well.

I have an AMD A6 CPU/GPU combo (they call it an APU) it plays blu-ray rips no problem at all and that is streamed from a NAS. The HD4000 has beaten that combo in almost every review I have seen. Obviously the i5 version is clocked a little slower than the i7 though so it is not going to be working as well as it could. My main concern would be RAM to be honest, the HD4000 can utilize up to 1.8GB and with only 4GB you may have some issues if you have other stuff running (like a torrent client or web browser with multiple tabs/windows open). But if you are just going to plug it in to you TV and leave it there only using VLC or something for playback you should still be ok with 4GB.

For time based stuff such as rendering obviously it will take longer but these new i5 CPU's are pretty quick so I can't imagine you would have any issues there either. The caching SSD will help there but not as much as if the files themselves were actually residing on a 128GB or 256GB SSD.

At the end of the day it sounds like you are going to push this machine a fair bit, you have to take into account this is designed to be slim and light not super powerful. If you are ok with that compromise then that is fine but it is a compromise.

        • Thanks for the replies! Just bought it, I decided to not eat next week so I could stretch the budget a bit and get this :D

But yeah, HD video editing is not necessary, just would be handy. Just the HD video playback which is necessary, which should be fine as my old desktop (core 2 duo 2.53ghz, 2gb ram) can play 99% of what I need just fine.

Thanks again for being a great Rep!

P.S. I assume that the postman will leave a card in my letterbox as I won't be home when this gets delivered? They have - and still do - leave packages behind the letterbox or next to the stairs (I live in an apartment)

        • We use couriers for large items, so if no one is home they will usually try to redeliver or you can pick it up at the depot.

  • +2

Man, I like the flingshot rep so much I wish I actually had something to buy…

    • +2

Haha, thanks give it time we will find something!

  • Hi, I found no way to input the coupon to claim $50 off the NP550P5C-S03AU

btw, the item is shipped with OS installed in SSD or HDD? I have no ideas on hybrid ultrabook

24GB SSD, what is its actual volume size? almost HDD gets some reduction due to different byte calculation of the OS and manufacturer

    Thanks

    • With the coupon, you need to go to the next screen after the paypal screen and there is a coupon field.

The 24gb ssd is just a caching drive by default. The OS is not installed on it, it is installed on the larger drive. There is an app that runs in windows which utilizes the space.

Now that said the 24gb ssd is simply an msata drive so in theory you could install the OS onto there unless there is something in the BIOS that stops you from booting from that drive, but that would seem a little weird. You would definitely need to do some research first to confirm this.

  • Great deal. If I used my laptop more, I'd probably consider upgrading to one of these.

Rep is doing also doing a great job communicating with customers. Good work. Wouldn't hesitate buying from you in the future if you put up something I need.

    • +2

Thanks very much, we will be expanding our range in the near future, we just want to make sure that we don't compromise the customer experience. So we need to make sure all of our procedures are perfect first.

  • Great rep. Bought an np550p5c-s03au with the deal. Thanks =]

Hopefully shipping will be just as pleasant.

  • Would battery life increase if the HDD and MSATA were removed and replaced with just an SSD?

Also, how much would you charge for the 128gb Samsung SSD on top of the purchase of the NP530U3C-A03AU without any formatting or installation?

    • The battery life would definitely increase if you removed the standard hdd.

We would charge about $140 for that drive.

  • Hi everyone, first of all I'm just a newbie here in ozbargain and I was wondering if anybody can help me as I'm not really a computer savvy.

Can you please tell me if this NP530U3C-A03 (Intel Core i5 Processor 3317U (1.7GHz)is quad core, 1st gen i5, 2nd generation i5 or 3rd generation i5?

Thank you and I would appreciate your help.

    • +2

First person with the correct answer gets a $5 gift voucher!

      • Someone else can have this one.

Just out of curiosity, does this notebook model have that Turbo boost feature that boosts it from 1.7ghz to 2.6ghz when needed? I know the Toshiba z930 has it….

        • Yes it is built into the CPU.

        • Cool thanks. So is it better to let it happen automatically when needed or would overclocking to a higher speed be good/bad?

    • quick check on Intel site : Intel Core i5 Processor 3317U is the 3rd gen i5 but only has 2 cores

      • +1

Winner! Shoot us an email and we will get the code sent out.

  • Have you started shipping any orders from Thursday yet?

    • Not yet, the orders from Thursday and Friday will be shipped out Tuesday (we have a public holiday in NSW on Monday) The rest will be shipped on Wednesday.

      • Great, thanks! Yup enjoy the long weekend.

        • +1

          Thanks!

  • If i purchased mine on saturday night, how long do you think itl take for me to get mine? i live in sydney :)

    • Thursday most likely, but possibly Wednesday. We have a lot of orders to go out and the long weekend has meant a big backlog but we should be able to get all of the orders fulfilled by Wednesday from the long weekend.

      • how long does it take to ship? also, the tracking number i received doesnt work

  • The NP530U3C-A03 sold out :(
Any ideas when you guys would be getting more? And offer an amazing deal like this?

Edit: Nvm, I'll get the i7 :P where do I input the $50 off code?

Edit2: Hmm, the coupon doesn't seem to work actually…

    • Sorry the coupon for $50 off only works on the NP550 not the NP530.

  • Just got word from the missus that we received ours today! Can't wait to get home and play with it.

    Faster turn around than expected.

    Thanks a bunch!

  • My np530u3c-a06au arrived today in Brisneyland, pretty fast shipping considering the public holiday and the accident that held up shipping on the Bruce Highway. Well done Flingshot, happy to buy from you again.

  • Received today as well. Thanks Flingshot! :D

  • Does anyone have any tips to speed up the performance of this machine? I'm having issues with Full HD video playback, it skips and lags and doesn't play at all in some cases which is the main reason I bought this in the first place. (vimeo: lags momentarily. youtube: hit and miss. Blu-ray rips: lag/skip. Blu-ray m2ts files: video freezes audio plays. Canon DLSR footage h.264 compressed .MOV's: lag/skip. Some full HD files straight off a Sony NEX5 camcorder: video freezes but plays fine on my old desktop. Haven't tried mounted Blu-ray ISO yet.)

I've uninstalled some of the bloatware and also ended unnecessary processes in task manager but still having issues :( Also obviously closed down all other application when doing the testing.

I was thinking to do a fresh install of windows and cross my fingers that it speeds it up, but before I did that I thought I'd ask here first.

    Ummmm, Help!

    Thanks

    • +1

Before you do anything as drastic as a Windows reinstall, which video player are you using? Not many players can handle 1080p flawlessly, even VLC has problems, sometimes.
If you're only experiencing lag in 1080p playback scenarios, my recommendation would be to do a quick google search and download a good player.

      • Thanks for your response!

Yeah, I'm using VLC. But I also use VLC on my 4 year or so old desktop PC (2.5ghz Core 2 duo, 2 gb DD2 ram) and have no issues playing them back there.

But that doesn't explain why online videos such as Vimeo and youtube lag/skip.

        • It's weird because I borrowed a friends laptop, can't remember exactly what it was but it was one of those low end budget Compaq 15.6" laptops (it wasn't even an i3) and it played the same stuff better than what this does..

        • I'm not terribly sure about this, but it may have to do with hardware acceleration when playing videos - if you're not using it, then the videos will lag, and your CPU activity will spike abnormally high (30%+). If not, then it might have something to do with the video codecs (be mindful that I have a somewhat vague understanding of both, sorry). Therefore, my only useful suggestion:

It might be worth posting about it on Whirlpool, someone over there ought to know.

        • Hmmm.. yeah I will ask on Whirlpool, thanks.

I tried to turn on Hardware acceleration but it's greyed out :(
