  • Any way to stack this with the 10% off ultimate gift cards at Coles tomorrow?

    • Yes why not

      • Do they work online for good guys?

        • Yes they do

        • Only 1 giftcard works online. In store you can use mutiple.

    • +18

The previous commenter glossed over a few important points you probably should be aware of.

      • The maximum denomination of Ultimate gift cards that are part of the Coles deal starting tomorrow is $100.

      • You can redeem Ultimate gift cards on the TGG online store, but you can only redeem 1x per online transaction. You can also redeem a maximum of 2x TGG gift cards + 1x Ultimate gift card in one online transaction, but to convert an Ultimate gift card into a TGG gift card, you would need to go to a physical TGG store (and staff at the store may or may not let you use a gift card to purchase a gift card).

      • You can redeem multiple Ultimate gift cards in a physical TGG store. The issue is that this coupon deal appears to be limited to the TGG online store, so if you choose to go instore, you would need to ask them to price match TGG online (and they may be able to do this). Alternatively, you could call the TGG customer hotline and see whether they can have an order sent to a specific TGG store for you to pay at the store, which would then allow you to redeem multiple Ultimate gift cards in one transaction.

      • God's work

      • cheers mate

      • thank you, excellent explanation

$325 if you ring up Sony asking to upgrade your xm3. No proof needed you even have an xm3. Super easy and quick. Can choose from both colours !

    • +1

Are you calling the sony australia or what retailer? Also do they provide u with a coupon?

      • +5

Sony support line. They ask you to make an account, then they adjust the price manually in your cart and it’s ready to go.

        • Thanks for the info! Appreciated

@idalla: Trying this now. Will update with result.

@TightAl: On the phone now. Not going well.

First they wanted to try to 'resolve' the issue with my XM3s, and began offering repair work. I explained I didn't want to repair them, I just wanted to upgrade and replace them with the XM5s.

They explained that they are only able to offer the reduced price to those with faulty or unrepairable XM3s. Nonetheless, they are transferring me to a product specialist now, and am on hold. I'll update again.

I actually said that my cousin was offered the reduced price based on his XM3 ownership, and I was after the same deal.

                  • @soaringphoenix: Smart diversion lol :)
                    HOPE YOU GET IT!

                  • +11

@soaringphoenix: Just finish my phone call and it doesn't work. When I said I want to upgrade they reply the only option for discount is price match or 10% coupon lol.

                    • +3

@pq8382: Ah that's too bad. I thought I'd try and jump on this quickly before everyone else does (that's how I scored the Ozb famous $2500 38inch alienware display for $250 from Muzeeb).

The support agent put me on hold for a while and then returned saying no agents are available, and that he will escalate my query. Apparently I'll be contacted later today. Based on pq8382's experience, I'm sure that it will be an offer for price match or 10%.

Happy to have tested it out anyway to save others the hassle!

                      • @soaringphoenix: Yeah I guess it is possible to get a price match and 10% at the same time. However, whether Sony will honour the coupon discount price is a question.

                      • +6

@soaringphoenix: Wanted to share my successful attempt and the steps I took to achieve it:
                        1. Opened a ticket with technical support team via the live chat (Make sure you have an account/email or something they can link the conversation to), indicated that I had the XM3s and that they are now faulty.
                        2. Attempted to troubleshoot following the technical support's steps to help them determine that it was faulty.
                        3. They suggested that I trade it in for a special price, I told them I was happy to and the ticket was closed.
                        4. I then received an email saying the trade in is simply - register an account and reply to the email with the newly discounted price of 324.9

I think the key is to mention you want to trade it in.

                        Hope this helps.

                          @AnonymousYellow: Hi,
Thanks for the update. Quick question, do you actually have a xm3 headphone or not? Because I only have a xm2 so if they actually ask me to trade in, I will have no item to send back lol.

                          • @pq8382: I don't, they say it's trade-in, just agree to it and you will receive an email mentioning that the trade-in is actually just a register and reply process. No requirement for the actual product.

                            • @AnonymousYellow: Thanks for the update. Gonna try it now lol

                            • @AnonymousYellow: btw, for the last step, do u need create a new account or linked it with exisiting sony account?

                              • @pq8382: I made a new account when setting up the live chat tech support enquiry, but note that I never had a sony account previously.

                                • @AnonymousYellow: Didn't work for me. They asked for proof of purchase before anything continues. I did say I only bought then a few months ago so she said they would be okay for repair so maybe say you got them a couple years back?

I'll try again now with new email.

                                  • @chapps1995: Just make sure to say its out of warranty. I told them I bought mine 3 years ago.

                        • @AnonymousYellow: If I were to do this again, call up and speak to customer service for a headset; this will take you straight to step 4. Ask for the special price for the headset. Stay on the phone with them until you make the purchase, as they have to manually adjust the cart for you. This will save everyone time lol poor tech guy

                          • @czz: Thanks for all the advice and tips.

All the live chat agents for Audio have been occupied for about half an hour now, so might be low chance of getting the reduced price now.

@soaringphoenix: Yeah, I just called and they are on to this already - won't budge on the price and transferred me through to the repairs and warranty team.

She put me hold as soon as I told her my XM3's were faulty then asked me for the serial and where I purchased it, if I had receipt etc.

This loophole was short lived :(

Edit: when the transfer to repairs team went through, she asked me to explain what was wrong, then hung up the phone haha

I rang support. Said my headphones were faulty. I claimed intermittent Bluetooth connection. Told them I did all the troubleshooting. I asked if there is still an upgrade program. They said yes. Asked when I bought my xm3s. I said 2021 sometime. They transferred me to sales who did the special price in my already existing account. Ez pz

                              • @M21: They hung up on you?! Haha probably unconvinced by our dodgy 'fault' descriptions.

When they asked me what was wrong with mine, the best improvisation I could offer on the spot was "they just aren't working anymore".

I agree, they are definitely onto it now. Ah well, easy come easy go. Congrats to those legends that were successful!

@soaringphoenix: Let me try this, I will report back. Can anyone please DM me their XM3 serial? LOL

                                  • @sqheaven: lol, i will try with my xm2 serial. Hope they could honour this lmao

                                    • @pq8382: If this doesn't work then I have already price matched the item with JB, will use my GCs to drop the price a little bit lower lol

                                      • @sqheaven: The sales is asking me for a serial number of XM3, hmm so what is next? Where do i get a serial number? lol

                                        • @sqheaven: I rang them back with an old serial number for a pair I bought when they first came out, found the invoice in my emails. He told me someone will call me within a couple of days to discuss.

                                          • @M21: Slim chance that I would get a serial number

                                            • @sqheaven: Lol, I got mine sorted out without even being asked for my serial number

                          • @PUSHPDANT: I just tried the online chat just then and they still won't budge - she sent me a follow up email requesting the original invoice.

Will see where this goes. They must have been told to clamp down on blindly giving out discounts after the tsunami of enquiries this morning.

                            • @M21: True, I also got the same, So ended up buying it with JB after price matching with them for 439.20

                            • @M21: They didn't ask me anything for an invoice..Luck for me

                            • @M21: Same here

                              • @klonky: It did not work for me. I sent a serial number for my cousin's pair, and they said it's not an XM3 but a TV serial. I then shared the photo of SN, but they still want me to send the invoice. lol

If you end up in Kelly's hands, he is a PIA.

                      • @soaringphoenix: Wow, how did you get that deal on the Alienware monitor? I assume a price stuff up and they actually honoured it?

                    • @pq8382: Try again. Just make sure to say its out of warranty. I told them I bought mine 3 years ago. My issue was the earpads are degraded. Sony dont supply them anymore, just third party stuff that change the audio/sound cancelling quality so I dont want that. They then agreed to do the discount.

                      • +2

@vlahka: Update: They just called me and added the XM5's to my cart. If cash rewards goes through, with the 10% welcome discount, it will end up costing only $269.08

I did need to send them my original XM3 Sony invoice.

They will make sure you have:
                        1. Factory reset the headset
                        2. Paired to multiple devices
                        3. Upgraded to latest firmware 4.5.2

You need to tell them they are out of warranty, the issue is persistent and not intermittent, and you do not want to send them in for repair and would like to UPGRADE to XM5's. The cart expires after a few weeks if you don't want to buy it straight away.

                        • @M21: Glad it worked!

                          • +1

@vlahka: ya worked for me too. Thank you!
They kept asking for an invoice, I told them I bought ages ago and don't have it but the guy kept telling me that an invoice was needed for trade-in. I told him I was informed there is a special price for xm5 and I don't even need to trade in if he can provide me that price. then he forwarded my request to a different department which didn't ask for anything and adjusted the price.

    • +3

That is a fantastic price for great headphones. However, anyone considering buying it should check if they fit OK as the cups are not as deep as on XM3.

I'm stilling using my trusty, old XM3 and see no compelling reason to upgrade unless Sony go back to foldable design with deeper cups.

      • +1

This comment reminded me my ears touch so I stopped wanting to buy this.

If I had to re-buy at this point to replace XM3's it would either be Beats Studio Pro or Bose QC / QC Ultra. Foldable = winner!

        • Subjective but I much prefer XM3 sound over Bose QCs.
          Why not XM4?

      • +2

Still rockin' the XM3s too. Been stellar. Wanting to get the kids some noise cancelling headphones for a flight though, so figured this could be a good time to upgrade my and hand those down :-)

        • Bose QC Ultra have received some rave reviews, so, this might be the best option. However, if you consider the cost, it's a tough sell when compared to Sony XM5.

      • XM3 here as well, kinda don't wanna upgrade due to the lack of aptX on the newer models, but a family member has the XM5s, and holy cow I didn't think the noise cancelling could get any better, but I was dead wrong.

        • Did you say they were more than 2 years old?

          • @chapps1995: Yeah, I did. One person even say 2 years old is still good and new

      • What headphones did you say?

    • What about if you have an old xm5 that doesnt work? Does that count as an upgrade?

  • Thanks SuspiciouslySquishyG!
Does anyone know if there will be better deals on this model before xmas?
Wondering if I should hold out for Black Friday or jump on this one

    • +2

i believe it is likely to get a price around 370-380 in black friday. However I dont think it would drop any futher.

    • +1

I have been waiting for a decent discount and 20% off is pretty good. If you stack gift cards and stocash (TGG loyalty), you can bring it down further.
Based on previous Black Friday, Boxing Day deals, I doubt it will drop before $350.

  • +8

    Just a short review.
Bought it from a deal here a couple of months ago from the good guys.
Very good voice quality and not heavy at all on your head giving its size. The battery lasts long - I charge it every 10 days or so, using it 1-2 hours a day. It can connect to two devices, e.g. my phone and Amazon Fire TV (when watching TV). On the recent update, now it can connect to two devices unlimitedly, whereas, previously when you enable dual connection, it disables LDAC codec.
Every fortnight when I mow the lawn, I put it on and listen to music. I almost hear nothing else (noice canceling) which is great. However, I end up having a lot of sweat on my ear…
I wish there was a mute button on it, so when I'm in a meeting and want to make a cup of coffee, mute it and unmute it if I have to talk!
Another thing that I'm yet to find a solution is sometimes a gesture (on the touch panel) enables the speech detection or something like that, then when you talk or someone else talks, it silences the music (and listens to your commands potentially). I cannot disable this gesture yet.

    • +1

I had the same speech issue on my xm4. If you turn off the feature "Speak to chat" in the headphone app it goes away. The problem is that it regularly turns itself back on.

      • Yeah exactly it turns itself back on

    • Have you had a chance to compare to something like the Bose quiet comfort 35's? Interested if the price premium vs performance is justified in your opinion

      • +1

Unfortunately not. And honestly it's very difficult to compare something you use daily with a one in a store for 5 minutes.

This headphone is great! best thing I bought this year!

  • +1

Nice price for the current generation of top-of-the-line Sony noise-cancellers, which I haven't seen below $500 before. Last week I did a comparison in-store at JB and these probably beat the Bose equivalent. Extremely comfortable, elegantly designed, block out a lot of environmental noise – and audio quality seems top-rank.
I ended up buying the previous-series Sony WH-1000XM4 for $439. These are now under $360 using the FRENZY23 code in the same deal at TGG. Their sound and look are almost indistinguishable from the WH-1000XM5, and they were Sony's top-line model a few months back.

    • I got it for $350 at JB hi Fi last December. I went overseas as well so $320 basically.

  • Does officeworks price beat this?

    • Their first exclusion is: Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)

      So, likely no?

  • How does this headphone compare with the Bose quietcomfort 45?

    • probably better than qc45 in everything but comfort. I've always found Bose QC range to be more comfy than Sony XM series

      • Yeah ngl I'm shocked I had comfort issues. I've never had comfort issues with any Kmart brand stuff, in-ear earphones, the old hard plastic earphones, on ear headphones, over ear headphones, anything… No issues.

XM5s they get a little toasty after a while. I got a good deal so it seemed like a no brainer after carefully weighing up options. I don't regret it and I'm not a massive deep user that listens for hours. When I looked at it I think the QC45 didn't have noise cancelling adjustments, touch controls and fruit like that seemed less. I also don't get why Bose doesn't take codec support to the next level. They aren't supporting Sony's LDAC or any other improved Bluetooth codec. It probably doesn't make much a difference to 95% of users but just seems strange not to tick that box when you're selling in my opinion superior Headphones. The QC45 also fold like the xm4s but the XM5s don't. I was leaning towards the NC 700 over the QC45 personally in the Bose range.

Feel Sony just loves going super hard on NC and tech. NC is the reason apparently they got rid of the folding design. Feel NC is probably why they made them so uncomfortable and hot to wear.

  • Don't forget that if you are signing as a new account (since August) at MySony, get a further welcome 10% off on this….provided your subsribe to their newsletter, preferences. These can be turned off afterward.

free Delivery for over $200, so better than C&C (if you wait a few days?)

    From Sony Pricematch:
"You can also use the 10% welcome voucher on top of your price match request if in case you see a much cheaper price with other retailers."

Should bring down these headphones another ~$54 to about $384

    • The Sony price match conditions sound pretty strict, and it sounds like they would quite soundly not price match against this price.

      https://store.sony.com.au/pricing.html

It's more likely a tipline for Sony to punish retailers not following their price guide than anything benefiting you.
