Sennheiser HD800S Over-ear Audiophile Reference Headphones $1,679.00 Shipped @ Sennheiser eBay

660
HGTSAVE

Not as good as the last deal unfortunately, but still a decent price.

The HGTSAVE code gives an additional $120 off Sennheiser's Click Frenzy price of $1799.

THING10|15 isn't working for me on these.

Also watch out, eBay might sneakily apply the OCT5UPA code at checkout which only discounts $89.95, make sure you replace it with HGTSAVE.

To anticipate some of the comments:

  • Are these headphones good? Yes.
  • Are they really worth $1500? No, spending $1500 on headphone is foolish.
  • Are they better than the Drop HD6XX? Very different. Much better in some ways, but worse in others.
  • Do I need an amp for these? Yes absolutely essential.
  • Will this specific Toppping/Fiio/iFi/whatever amp be good enough? In my opinion, yes definitely. In others' opinion: no way.

Note: Cheaper at $1439.10 if you have access to UNiDAYS

This is part of Click Frenzy deals for 2023

        • They look hot to wear. Are they over long sessions?

          • @congo: Nah, the cups are quite big and spacious.

        • Sennheiser is made in Germany/Ireland, or they were, its where they are based, you are much more likely to get a good price in Europe than you are in japan.

Not sure why you decided to buy them there.

The 800s has hovered around $1800 for like the last 2-3 years in Australia. Buying them for $1800 in japan makes no sense to me.

@garetz: There was a deal back then, during covid some companies their panic clearing.

            I pick up a ATH-AWKT for 1900 and 800S for 1800, at the time it's 3400 + 2300 original price. huge savings.

    • Ask for the difference back. They can only say no.

  • how do these compare to hifiman arya stealth?

I won a $20 senheiser voucher from Boost Juice if anyone wants it. Not sure if it stacks…

    $1,679.00? Must be gold plated!

Never listened to the HD800S but did get to spend a few hours with my mate's HD800 on his expensive tube amp few years ago; from memory I thought the headphone had good details even if it's a bit bright/harsh but my goodness the expansive and 3D like sound stage was something else. Listening to virtual barbershop with that headphones really sent shivers it sounded uncomfortably realistic.

I am currently sporting a pair of Monoprice M1570 planars (along with my Alessandro MS Pro-e) which I bought a year ago for like $800 shipped…wonderful sounding headphones which supposedly punches with the Audezes at a fraction of the price.

What advantages does this headphone have against a STAX SR-L700 Electrostatic? Which, I can also afford

Can't wait to plug these into my Desktop case's aux.

    • Auxome for you.

The first time I saw someone with these was back in circa 2009, a guy like you plugged HD800 to the audio jack on his laptop. I was like WTF. These are a 300Ohms headphones.

  • Hmm, I currently have a pair of HD 660S's and a Topping DX7 PRO dac/amp. Would these be a noticeable upgrade/worth the cost to upgrade to?

I will basically only use them for PC gaming, as i have a HTS Setup (Yamaha RX-A6A with Dali Zensor 7's, (soon to Oberon 9's) and a SVS PB2000) and much prefer listening on those over headphones.

    • Why on earth would you bother with fancy audiophile headphones for PC gaming?

Don't let anyone stop you though, go for it!

      • Really good spacial imaging for one. But I like having very good audio soo yeh

        • 'Spacial imaging' gonna depend way more on the sound engine than the fancy headphones.

And headphone imaging is garbage compared to good speakers. The 800 S is good for headphones.

          • @rumblytangara: I mean, if you are gaming on PC… You arent going to have 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup, so i would argue that headphones will generally give better spacial sound vs 2.1 speakers for PC!

            • @Woody982: I have 5.1 speaker setup at my gaming PC. I may be unusual though as I do have three 5.1 setups in my house lel
