Just saw this come through by email. Not sure if targeted but it mentions you need to be enrolled in Membership Rewards to be eligible.

Available on $50, $100, $200, $250 and $500 gift card denominations.

    With 50,000 points would this be better value than for flights? As looking at flights through Amex travel or even swapping to other airlines it seems poor value

      If you have access to the hotel collection or higher hotel program on Amex travel, I find the hotels good value for points as you get $100usd and room upgrade for a two night stay in melb, Sydney, Canberra.

    Agree with folks saying "bad value to use points for gift cards" - its an absolute rip off guys!!
    Here are actual numbers. $100 JB giftcard = 20k AMEX points
    Transfer 20k AMEX to 10K Qantas points - what does that buy you? Melb to Syd for 8K points which starts at $244 for 25th Oct..if you plan in advance there are plenty of reward seats for "non red eye" flights

        Worth noting that classic awards on Jetstar cost less too, and Jetstar awards include 20kg checked baggage which is a paid extra usually.

        JQ SYD-MEL is 6400 QFF points, equivalent 12800 Amex MR or $64 JB credit for the purpose of comparison. There's also $40 taxes to factor in.

        In this example, if your SYD-MEL Jetstar flight is over $104, you're better off using the MR on flights. If it's less than $104 - which is very possible if you don't need the included checked luggage - you're potentially better off with the JB credit.

        The real catch on this hypothetical is that Amex MR can only be transferred to QFF on Ascent Premium cards - i.e. The Platinum or Centurion card. Chances are you don't hold either if you're usually a Jetstar flyer.

        Yes for international too. Their “book a flight” tool is very handy. Should show you all available options for a route you select. Make sure you have the use points option selected

    How did I miss this? Awesome value. 20,000 points to get $110 Apple gift card (purchased) or the same points for only $100 credit on Amex travel website.
