Cheapest ever on 3Camel. Price matched with Harvey Norman. Normally priced around $150ish, so $88 is fairly solid for this branded one.

Got one for myself. This was a case of “buy first, research later”, as I don’t know what I’ll use this with yet. Maybe it’ll be useful for those who know.

Here’s a random review if you are wondering. This is the smaller key light, hence “mini”.

Elgato do have a knack for selling overpriced stuff.

What's the use case for this?

The review OP listed in the description covers this. It’s a very bright and portable diffuse light for videography/streaming/video conferencing. It can be integrated with Home Assistant as well.

Cheaper lights are not as bright and often don’t come with a built-in diffuser.

For your sake mate, I hope she hasn't read this?

  • I once bought an Amaran light, uses 6 x AA batteries and has variable temp, it's never left the bag in about 5 years lol

I'll give you 3.50 for it

There are are a bunch of lights by Smallrig, Ulanzi, Neewer etc in this market which are cheaper, and better optioned imho. The smallrig devices are high CRI and have full RGB and some additional modes.

Three examples of alternatives, cheaper and not on sale. (Ulanzi one has a 10% off coupon actually)

If you ACTUALLY need this, these are great. If you're unsure if you need it, chances are you don't.

These are wonderful though, I mainly use the smaller elgato keylights but these function identically, everything in the elgato ecosystem just works, I've never had to fiddle with things or debug or troubleshoot.. The folks over at elgato really have got the thing locked down to an art. I'd probably even go so far as to say they're getting to reaching Apple levels of integration in the ecosystem.

The lighting is controllable through the TaskBar, your phone/widget, Stream Deck, elgato pedals, or anything else you incorporate to the elgato API which gives limitless options for control without ever touching them.

Being able to press a foot pedal down to turn on, or adjust with a stream deck, or via 2 clicks on the TaskBar on windows is invaluably convenient, I've been more than happy to pay the extra for the convenience and depth of control available. In 4 years I've never reached in to turn on a light or had to leave my seat to try different colour temps/brightness and go back and forth between Webcam and display to see if its correct. Everything's just controllable in front of you.

Unless you're a bit of a power user and you care about your work flow, you could get away with cheap units where you have to reach into the back to turn on/off and adjust temperature/brightness or require aftermarket batteries/AC connection. Especially if you're not using this everyday or frequently… It might not be worth while for you.

These have a lot of uses outside streaming/content creation, if you care about convenience and ease of use then it might be for you. Beyond the obvious uses in content creation, I use them fairly often as a overhead light on a small mount for electronic work. I know some people use them for macro or product photography, some even use them in workshops as easily controllable lights to make using rotary tools easier, with 3d printers, cnc/mill monitoring, etc.

These are quality units, they will last quite some time and if the batteries degrade they probably can be replaced too from the cells I saw inside.
