    Hens going crazy!

  • make sure if you get your $1.50 eggs your prepared to fight for them

  • No thanks. Still can’t believe these are sold.

** thought it said caged eggs 🤣

      • +3

Yeah, cage-free are good. Often better than free range 'cause there's less risk to the hens. But Coles and Woolies brand farmed eggs are considered some of the less desirable, often skirting the very border of what is considered "free range" and "cage free"

Unlikely he thought it was cased. Cage free usually means they are cooped up in a barn all day with thousands climbing over eachothers crap, fighting eachother for food or for feices infested water, etc. It could still be a very stressful environment. Maybe even moreso as they dont have the safety of the cage lol. Do some quick research and you will see that proper free range eggs actually have significantly higher (up to 6x) amounts of nutrients and vitamins such as D, B and omega fatty acids.. If everyone ditched this crap we would get cheaper free range eggs due to higher demand and we'd all be healthier, plus no more cruelty to the animals that provide us with energy to live. Sounds good to me!

        • I did originally read caged. I actually buy local organic free range so not fussed either way but you’re right, we vote with our dollar. As long as you do what you can that’s the main thing, appreciate not everyone has the luxury.

      • +2

        Nerangatang.

Yep, one of the over 1702 towns and 15,353 suburbs & localities in Australia.

        • The area called 'Toowoomba" is even a no go for Police. The police even said they would rather be in Hell. Actual crime statistics say reported criminal incidents in Toowoomba city are at a rate of 138422 incidents per 100,000 population, according to QPS 2022 data.
They talked me out of retirement there in no uncertain terms. Said it was safer in Alice springs

No one in Nerang has the motivation to steal cars

    • +1

This made my trip to Nerang less painful.

Damn would have bought 50 cartons. I go through 1 every 2 days

    • 1 or two cartons?

    • Would take 100 days to go through 50 cartons at that rate but the use-by is in 22 days. You’ll only have finished 11 cartons by then. You’d have to make pickled eggs to keep them all.

Don't mind the expiry date…. you can eat eggs safely long after "expiry date"

    • Best before date to be correct

Any ideas of making century eggs or freezing raw eggs?

      • +1

Well you can buy egg whites so im sure its ol to freeze in vaccum seal bags

        • +1

Egg whites can be frozen on their own, egg yolks need to be whisked with either salt (for savoury use) or sugar (for sweet use) before freezing

    • heard you can also freeze them too

    • +2

I pasteurise them so they last even longer!

    Make me some pickled eggs!

  • Why do cage free eggs cost alot more than caged eggs?

    • +6

It's the price of freedom !!

    • Caged take up less space (literally crammed into cages with no room to move), easier to feed and less food wastage. Fact is the caged animals are kept in very unhumane conditions generally. Cage free they have more room to move but can be a big variation on how the chooks are kept.
There are quite a few documentaries on the conditions they are kept, albeit most docos about it are overseas and in the US.

  • Finally a local deal and I already have eggs

Thanks OP, grabbed 6 x on the way home. Btw, didn’t get robbed :)

Got 3 packs instore and some meth in the carpark

    • I can't think of a better combo 😍

  • Coles screwing over the farmers for this price?

    • +1

Brah it is just one store in the whole country and obviously trying to get rid of them quickly below cost price for some reason.

      • Most likely ordered too much by mistake (typos) and realised they wont sell and likely taking up precious room at the back.

  • +1

Just in time for the "trick" part of trick or treat. Might be a few egged houses/cars in Nerang next week.

    Thanks OP

  • Anyone have the dimensions of the 12 cages? The free eggs are a bonus too!

  • Is this offer in NSW too, or QLD only? Where's the cheapest place to buy eggs (in bulk) in Sydney atm?
