Google Nest Battery Camera $124 (Sold Out Online, C&C/ in-Store Only) @ Officeworks

1790

Was in the market for a new nest camera and came across this deal at officeworks. I assume it’s incorrectly priced but I’ve ordered for delivery with no cancellation so far.

They also have the doorbell camera for the same price. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/google-nes…

    • I think it's a question of stock. SOme OW probably had more than others.

  • Anybody had any success setting these up with Home Assistant?

    • Seems possible, with some effort. I've not tried on my HA setup as have the subscription doing everything I need.
      https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/nest/#configurati…

    • yes, it's possible

    • Yeah, I have - I can see my nest doorbell stream from my HA dashboard (I have to click on the card to view the stream). Also I believe their is a way to create an automation to save clips from your nest cameras/doorbell locally - I still need to look into this.

  • Party is over guys !

  • Is it worth buying the doorbell if I’m not considering going for the nest aware subscription? Personally, I feel like it’s quite expensive, would’ve been much better if they had some form of local storage using an SD card like others have mentioned but at this price it seems like a steal.

  • Can I use the wiring of my existing Kocom door bell for the Google doorbell?

    • They just need to be plugged into power for the wired ones and battey ones just mount it and connect

  • Already have the Aqara G4 doorbell. Still bought the Nest doorbell at this price. Will need to think about what to install later.

  • Thanks got a wired one

  • Unreal price's I dont think they been near $200 let alone $125

    • IKR…I thought I got them for a steal when I bought a bunch at $180 per camera (inc cashback), during an amazon sale 7 months ago…

Funnily enough they were also price matching OW then…

  • Eufy doorbell requires no subscription.. just cost a little more?

  • +3

Got the doorbell. My first video bell, hopefully it’s easy to install and a good investment. 🤞

    • +1

For that price it's phenominally good. I had a Ring doorbell prior and found the app and the experience of browsing videos and being notified better. It was a transition to use the Google Nest doorbell, but i'm ok with it. (end of the day, it's just a doorbell!)

  • +3

Went to collect, and heard the stuff muttered under their breath, god another one, while packing another doorbell for someone else for click and collect. Lol.

They're running out of all of them, so if you're wanting to get them, don't wait.

  • Do you need subscription or can use sd card to store?

    • +1

It all goes to the cloud. But a sub is not required, but provides limited playback. See other comments above.

No SD card or local storage option.

  • +2

Call JB HIFI and got them to price match . Easy done

  • Doorbell is back up to $239.

  • Price error fixed.

  • Put the doorbell in the cart… went to checkout and price had gone up :(

  • Both back to original prices:((

  • ozbargained - just clicked Pay Now, and back to $239 per camera…

    no deal… :(

  • Damn… had it in my cart and everything but decided to go through my morning routine first and now gone…
    Nice find OP!

    • yeah sucks!

  • Got ready to collect SMS for my 2 cam and 1 bell.

Don’t waste money if you want something to actually protect your property, get a proper Poe camera setup + nvr. None of this cloud recording bullshit. Surprise surprise you can jam wifi bands incredibly easily

    • +7

Not sure the average addict doing opportunistic break-ins is sophisticated enough to be jamming wifi signals… This isn't Oceans 11.

      • Subscriptions? Having to recharge it? Locked down streams? Google making it e-waste whenever they want?

Yes, proper cams are more complex to setup but 10000000x better in the long run.

        • When I went through getting quotes for a proper cam setup it was multiple thousands of dollars for a company to do it. That pays for a lot of subscriptions. Also the subscription is also cheaper than Netflix, Foxtel and all the other crap, I'd rather not pay it but for piece of mind it's pretty low.

Charging, nope, I ran the charging cable in my roof to the power at my ducted aircon, took an hour.

Ewaste: maybe, let's see, but with Australian Consumer Law we are very protected, they would need to refund original purchase price most likely (as Kamado Joe found out recently)…

          • @cook99: i mean just buy a poe cam setup, and install yourself. if you can drill a hole and pull some cables its super easy

    • +1

Even if someone breaking in is somehow jamming your wifi (they won't be), the camera saves the recording until it has internet access to upload.

    • It saves the video to memory and can upload to cloud at a later time so Juanmi g wifi only delays footage

  • Missed it ;(

Managed to click and collect. Yewww

  • JB online chat was extremely helpful and price matched the $124 doorbell price despite no longer showing online. Great first experience with their online reps.

    • how exactly did you do it?

    • If possible can you share your receipt, I'll try to go to my jb hi-fi and try to get a price match

      • +1

I was in the queue for their online chat when it was still at $124, then when it was my turn to chat to the agent, the price had already gone up.
He honored it anyway due to the lag it took to get an agent through the queue. YMMV. I can share a receipt if you PM me your email.

  • +1

I ordered click and collect while it was still a price error and I'm yet to receive any confirmation email. Has this happened to anyone else?
    Funds have been taken.

    • I'm in the same boat. Still says processing and order page now shows $239 as the order amount…

    • Just gave their customer service a call. Turns out that their team is looking into it due to a pricing error and I should receive an email soon.
My hopes aren't high and I think they're going to get me to pay an extra $122 each.
I was having issues with my account and I had to check out as a guest.

      • +1

        You got greedy

        • Only grabbed 3!

          • @murk17: 2 too many with this sort of obvious price error. You might have a win tho

            • @Tee Rex Arms: Just called and spoke to Customer Service.
They saw that there was an error on the account and I was charged "only" $372 instead of $717. I explained that I had a price alert on my phone setup for these cameras, and I jumped onto it straight away. They then put me on hold for around 5 minutes and processed the order. I finally got a confirmation email 6 hours after making the purchase with the $717 on the invoice. I politely asked why it was $717 instead of $372, and that the cameras were only $124 each and not $239.
They said "Oh, we've waved that. Don't worry. The invoice says the full amount because of the way our systems work. You won't be charged extra"
I checked my bank account, and they haven't taken any more out. And the order is ready for C&C.

              Good luck.

  • bugger needed this doorbell :( ill have an nvr system to tie in with this anyway.

  • Managed to race down and get 1 x doorbell and 4 x cams. Price had updated to normal on their pc’s but I said the price tags were $124. Manager collected them for me and adjusted the price on till, but removed the price tag from the shelf

  • +2

OK meta but this is why I love OzB and the community. Been patiently waiting for a Nest doorbell and cam for months, set up an alert and checking each time it fired, then today acted on it, and half an hour later picked up one of each for a great price. Thanks OP!

  • Ohh missed it :(

  • +2

Can someone upload their receipt. Wouldn't mind seeing if can price match at local Officeworks

    • +1 please

    • I’ve got my receipt, but it was with a price override: incorrect shelf edge label.

So highly doubt it could be used to get them to match

    • +2
      • Thanks

  • Can anyone share their order confirmation email or any screenshot that says it was at $124 this morning? I'm on a call with Officeworks and they are saying that it's a payment error and just $124 has been taken instead of $239 and that's why my order is still under processing.

  • I picked up mine from the Perth City branch, they still have them with that price tag on the shelf $124. I couldn't find the doorbell on the shelf.

    • +1

Thanks. My local in Perth was the same. Had 124 on the shelf as regular price and honoured it

No cigar…asks for a mobile number

    • A screenshot would help?

    • What is your phone number? It asks for it as a reference

      • This is expired as david6509 has used the link to purchase already

    If anyone's interested:

    Expected battery life

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature and selected camera settings. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events and using Activity Zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios.

    Nest Cam (battery)
Busy – about 1.5 months battery life (about 20–25 recorded events per day)
Typical – about 3 months battery life (about 9–12 recorded events per day)
Quiet – about 7 months battery life (about 2–4 recorded events per day)

or buy the 10 metre charging cable…run it to the camera and your nearest powerpoint…..and have the thing permanently powered, never need to pull it down to charge! can get it for $45 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185925051538?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

      • +3

Seconded this! Absolutely worth the price for always connected. Also it shows immediately in app preview instead of on battery when it has to buffer and load a few seconds

    • LOL same person give me $30 off , maybe its a bot :)

      • LoooL

After reading comments and little bit more research the impulse buy, not sure if I should collect my doorbell. Seems a good deal @ $125 but 3 hours kinda sucks. Perhaps i should wait for a eufy doorbell deal..

    • Are you Victoria? I'd be happy to buy it off you if you didn't want it in the end?

  • +1

I’d share my feedback. If you’re after doorbell and standard on the spot notification, it is okay.

But if you’re after google nest security system and its camera recording, sorry please take note. Just go and get brand like Eufy (wireless) or Dahua (proper cable wiring).

I used to vouch for the google nest system, but they had screw up their pricing strategy. They jacked up the annual fees and thus once you’re bought into google hardware system, the trend you would expect is continuous increase of annual fees at their mercy.

It should not have happened in technology. Cloud system, storage, app support all of the eco-system infrastructure should get cheaper overtime. Not the other way. Have some thoughts before commitment and spend many of their cameras.

    • Thanks for your 2c. What would you replace your system with if you were to start from scratch?

      • I've been interested in the TAPO camera's but EUFY seem to get a decent rap here too.

I've got a google doorbell but the ecosystem is getting spenny which I don't really appreciate.

  • Anyone in WA that got one and decided its not for them, hit me up 😁

  • I have the text message ready for collection.
Is it safe to say I'll be ok to pickup without being asked to pay extra?

    • Just go and collect and enjoy. I don't think they ask for more when they have confirmed it :)

      • Too good to be true 😉

  • Thanks OP!
Saw your post first thing in the morning and pulled the trigger . But first ask questions (research) later haha. Bought 3 cameras and a doorbell after checking OW return policy and the going price on FB market place.

    Thank you!
