  • Has anyone used one of these for PC?

    • Not B3 but I'm using the C2 and C3 42" currently for my PC and Mac. What do you want to find out?

      • I play games, as well as WFH, just wondering if it's worth just buying one of these over a 'monitor' as I am actively looking, but value for large monitors seems distinctly absent.

        • +3

It's a pretty huge display and that depends on the size you're currently on. I came from a 32 > 38 > 43 prior to this so there's almost no problems in the size department.

The annoying thing from the OLED are the ABL (auto dimming) feature. It's set by the system to prevent burn in. You can turn off ABL by using a LG service remote. (plenty of YouTube DIY)

But in whole it's an amazing display. You can't go back to LED after seeing this.

          • @xenoic: There shouldn’t be any ABL if you’ve set it up correctly.

Setting the input to PC locks the monitor into a 190nit peak SDR mode with almost zero ABL.

            • @tp0: Not entirely true. You can’t turn off ABL unless you’ve gone into the service mode. Have a Google on it.

Also with c3, the ABL is super aggressive that it’ll dim the screen quite heavily. I’m not sure what it’ll be for this model.

              • -1

@xenoic: I’ve set a C2 up as a PC monitor. Changing the input label to PC or turning off “peak brightness” disables ABL almost entirely.

                • +1

@tp0: I use a 42" LG C2 every day for gaming and productivity and the ABL kicks in very noticeably whenever anything with a white background appears, including when browsing OzBargain.

                  • +1

@deadpoet: Using light mode, and on an OLED too? Tut tut ;p

                  • -1

@deadpoet: In HDR mode. Or SDR mode that’s not configured correctly.

Go and look at the PC Monitor review of the C2 on RTINGS.

                    100% window: 180nits
                    2% window: 190nits

                    That’s almost no ABL whatsoever.

                • +1

                  @tp0: Have a read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED/comments/x42to5/lg_c2_share_yo…

Like I mentioned, ABL is super aggressive on the C3 which is the same generation of B3 but I don't have one to confirm.

                  I own both C2 and C3 :)

                  Also there's ABL and ABSL.

                  • -2

@xenoic: Reddit is full of idiots. Not a single mention of labelling the input as PC or turning off peak brightness. They all want to jump straight into the service menu.

                    • @tp0: I own both models. I know what I’m dealing with.

I use a 42-inch C2 TV as a monitor. It doesn't work well for work. I feel dizzy after staring at it for a long time. But it's fine for gaming and watching movies.

      • +1

Thanks for this info helps a lot to know

      • What refresh rate are you running it at?

        • Good one. Checked, 120.

      • +1

Are you sitting too close to your TV? I have mine (LG C2 42") located 80cm away, via a heavy-duty Desky monitor arm. It's amazing for gaming and acceptable for productivity work, though the ABL does get a bit annoying.

        • Yes, I sit a bit close to the monitor, that maybe the reason. Another 34 inches one works perfectly.

      • Sit far away (I'm talking like a meter). Also turn on Reduce Blue Light in the picture settings when doing work and turn it off when watching or gaming. That helped me a lot.

        • Thanks for this! I will try.

    • +2

We have a PC hooked up to a 55" G1 for games. It feels awful for work or even browsing. Just too damn big and the resolution isn't that great either.
In the study we have a 34" 4k IPS monitor (matte 16:10) and its much easier on the eyes.

    • +3

I wouldn't use a 55" but came from a 49" ultrawide and moved to the 42" oled and haven't looked back, been great for work and play.

Pair it with 24" monitor in vertical orientation is an awesome set up.

    • You can use a big TV (55" or larger) for PC work or gaming, but you have to position it sufficiently far away. I use an old Sony 55" X8500C LCD TV as a productivity monitor, and it sits approximately 1.3m away from me, on top of a shelf behind my desk. I wouldn't recommend this setup for most people, but it works well for me.

If you sit too close to a screen, you absolutely will feel nauseous.

    • 55 inch PC? damn…

  • Where are the G3 deals at?

  • +3

I picked up an ex display 77” G2 from JB yesterday for $3910 after 20% discount. Only one available but I’m sure there are other about… worth phoning around. This was maribyrnong FYI :)

    • Wonder if they will reduce it further if you ask for a better deal since it’s display model, will go into my local jb and ask today

    • +3

Ex-Display means a lot of hours of screen time. Potentially a shorter life span of screen

      • Agreed! This has 5yrs warranty so should be still good! I had LG replace panel for C9 as I had a red line vertically.

    • Thanks for the idea mate, my local store only has A80K in 77 inch(display model) and they r offering it for same price as yours.

  • Keep in mind, good tv but unlike the C3 it only has 2 full hdmi ports, others are only 2.0

Wont be an issue for everyone but a lot of gamers buy LG for its wide array of 2.1 ports

    • Any other differences vs C3?

      • +1

Lots, this B3 doesnt have the brighter evo panel and processor isnt strong enough for the upscaling that the C3 is capable of. Its a good budget option that has a good panel not great with a processor that wi be speedy enough for general usage. It will be amazing as a gaming monitor in a bedroom/low light environment. I would not choose it as a main tv for bright living room (go for C3 at the very least or the super bright G3)

        • Thanks for letting me know. It is for the bedroom but I can't decide if I'm just going to get a cheap TV or splurge for an OLED. I was also looking at the Sony A80 OLEDs as they go to a similar price as this.

          • @itsfuze: Yeah Sony 55" deals have been amazing in the last year and would take the A80 over the B series.

While I agree with Savvy that for main viewing room its generally worth the extra dollars to get a C or G, B series is more than capable and unless you compare them side to side or need the higher ports on the other series, most people won't notice a difference.

  • Very tempted to pick this up. Was looking at the 55” C3. From what I can tell this just looks like worse brightness in bright rooms (not applicable for me) and only two HDMI 2.1 ports? I think the 500 dollarydoo discount might be worth it for me

  • +2

Pass! I'll wait for Black Friday.

  • The C series never gets close to this price does it? (For the 55", I know the 42" was sub $1k earlier this year)

    • +1

Yes, 55" C series was down to $1600 at one point last gen.

All my oleds are LG but Sony's equivalent 55" model last year got down to $1300~ at which point it's a no brainer.

  • +1

This or Black Friday. That's the age old question.

    • +2

If you can wait the odds are in your favour for lower pricing, bigger drops on C and G series will occur though.

From here the big sales milestones where we see drops are: Black Friday > Christmas > New Years > Australia day > Start going on clearance after CES

      • Hard to know which one will have the best price as the stock starts running out #decisions

  • 65 b3 or something like a 75 tcl c845?

    • +1

      TCL? Come on man….

      • High end TCLs with FALD are pretty good e.g. this is the NA version of C845, https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/qm8-qm850g-qled. If you really want a larger screen and don't want to pay more for OLED, it's a fair point to consider. I've gone in store to look, OLED is nicer but the FALD are no slouches

    • +4

Picture Quality > Screen Size is what I always told my customers.

  • Whats the diff between C and B? (and the rest)

        The B3 isn't on Rtings

        • +1

          B2 is, though.

  • I tried the code with Samsung 75" The Frame QLED 4K Smart TV [2022], seems to be a good price as well: $2,796.00.

  • I'm not sure how to use gift cards for online orders.
I thought about click-and-collect, but the gift card was declined when I tried to use it as a debit/credit card. In the end, I went to the store to buy the unit.

  • This vs Sony x90L?

Use is just for streaming, tv and live sports. No gaming. In a lounge room with normal light during the day

    • Considering sport and daytime viewing, I would say Sony not only for better motion handling and a brighter panel but also better PQ EOTF Tracking. Naturally, black uniformity won't be as good.

  • No stock in VIC for the 55”.

  • hi all, is the b3 comparable to the C2?
