Should I Nominate The Driver of a Parking Fine?

Wife received a parking fine (NSW), no demerits. Car is registered in my name. Is there any point in me nominating her as the driver before paying?

I know if there are demerits involved, I am legally obligated to nominate her. But is there any reason for me to nominate her in this case? Will it affect my driving record if I just pay it as is? If I do nominate her, I'll need to wait for the fine to be reissued before paying (which is a bit of a nuisance, as I'd rather just be done with it).

Edit: This isn't about who should actually make payment. We share accounts and bills etc. This poll is in regards to what effect it would have on my driving record. My apologies to those who thought I was coming here for couples therapy and are now let down. Although I appreciate the advice given thus far!

    should be fine

it notes u get the discount if you havent gotten parking fines which attract demerit points

    • Thanks for this!

    • why don't they have stuff like that in QLD?

just nominate Teresa Brennan as the driver.

    what could go wrong?

      Haha!

lmao… he nominated a deceased person. To think he was a judge…. what a joke.

Do you have a clean driving record? If so I'd nominate her. Might come in handy if you get done for a minor offence and use your 100% clean record to request leniency.

Nominate on principle and if they send out a new notice you get some extra time to earn interest in savings account LOL

  • Nominate and tell her not to do it again.

Just pay it and save it in your back pocket for when your wife digs up the past in the next argument.. 😋
(If you do that, you may not have a wife to get you another parking ticket!).

Just pay it, and keep the peace.
She can shout dinner out one night 😉…

    • She cooks most of the dinners, so I guess that's good enough!

Definitely don't pay it for her - the whole point of a fine is for the person who "did the wrong thing" to be reprimanded. It's not just the actual dollar value, but the process of receiving a fine in the mail, reflecting on the amount of the fine as it is paid…etc. is what creates the lasting memory to not do it again. You should nominate her and let her receive / pay the fine.

    • I'm not looking to teach her a lesson. We have shared accounts, and I take care of the bills in the house (GASP!).
My question was only in relation to my driving record.
Even if I do nominate her, we'd both still be paying it, I would just be the one making the payment online.

  • Lol @ nominating driver

Just inquisitive as to when the OP would think you'd get demerits for parking?

    • Being Australia they would have thought about it just not Implemented yet 😀😉

Coming soon to a State near you!

    • There are certain parking offences that carry demerits.
In this case, there are none. I was more worried about my driving record.

      • You should clarify if it's a run of the mill parking fine, typically issued by the local council or carpark management, or if it's a police-issued fine for some kind of more serious indiscretion. The former has nothing to do with the cops, which is why this question is odd and confusing to many of us.

      • Would you be able to share an example of a fine with demerits?

        • You can receive demerit points for some parking offences. Demerit point parking offences include:

parking in a mobility parking space without a permit
stopping on or near a pedestrian crossing
stopping on or near a children's crossing
stopping within a short distance of an intersection

          • @Bugs Bunny: Did they do any of the above?

            • @Drakesy: The OP said in a post a little above this “ There are certain parking offences that carry demerits. In this case, there are none” which indicates they didn’t do any of the above.

Make the wife pay to teach her a lesson- do the crime, pay the fine

    • We have shared accounts :)

      • Take it out of her spending money.

        • She offered that already. It's not about the actual fine though, it's more about what it does to my driving record.

  • I don't think I've ever had parking tickets come up in any police check or anything. They are usually levied by the council aren't they. Would there even be a record of them outside of the council? I don't think anyone cares if you have any parking infringements

  • Nominate and pay when it arrives in her name.

You msy in the future wish to contest a similar fine, but you already have past history if you accept liability for this one.

  • They don't care who pays it

My wife always nominates me when I get a fine whilst driving her car. Why not delay paying the bill.
One time we both made appointments to review red light camera footage before finally paying.
She viewed, then nominated me as driver, so I requested to view.
We saved our money for months before paying that one. (We were trying to not pay it at all, so it was actually a fail.)

If you're going to have to pay, at least ensure they consume it all on administration. Don't let them profit from it.

  • Just checking, is this NSW council parking fine or a generic car park parking infringement. if the later my understanding is you can ignore it.

  • Privately issued fine and carpark? Or a council issued fine?

If the former, I wouldn't pay it at all.
