I have my doubts as to whether this could wreck stuff as effectively as my dewalt.

      Is your dewalt $99?

      Obviously it wont…

  • I have the one from this set: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/770013, cheaper version.
and it smokes easily after some moderate cutting…

The reviews for the model in this post also mentions the motor burning out.

      • Most brushed tools for heavy tasks are most likely to have this issue.
Hence I’m sticking with brushless ones as much as I can.

I have put mine through hell and it never failed, until the tool holder part snapped after 4 years of brutally forcing it through everything I could.
Their incredibly long warranty meant that I could get another one completely for free and continue my hellish onslaught of cutting through godknowswhat. :)
And a renewed warrantly was included!

    • Is yours this model from the post?

I used it the other day to clear out the yard of overgrown trees and shrubs and bushes at friends place. Added new blade and went hard. I seriously can't kill this thing. As much as I want it to die, to justify buying a new one. HO range is supposed to be the way, but the new HP version looks a bit more flimsy, with it's redesigned one handed handle.

Is this good for Catalytic Converters?

  • Looking at something like this for cutting through mdf and plaster board. Would this be suitable?

    Thanks

    • +1

Nah you'll want a circular saw so you can get straight cuts.

      • Thanks for the feedback, saved me $100

        • +2

Also for plaster board you might get better result with just a guide/thick ruler and knife. Circular saw will be overkill and create too much dust.

    • +1

Use something like this for the plasterboard so you dont put dust everywhere as its full of silica, dont wana breath it in.

"Texas Reciprocating Saw Massacre" doesn't quite have the same ring

      • but maybe the same outcome

  • Is RRS18 model better than this model?

  • +1

I've had this model (or at least it seems the same) for about 10 years and it's still going strong. Plenty of power. Replace the blade it comes with with something of high quality and it's fantastic.

  • Would this cut through a pvc down pipe?

    • Just use a hacksaw - PVC pipe is extremely easy to cut

    • Yes, especially if in the ground.

Angle grinder seems to be the easiest though.

Other hand saws all work too.

  • What is the usual price for this saw?

    • +1

      $124 last week

Quite a few comments online about the motors burning out.
This video shows why as no lubricant on moving parts.

I wouldnt recommend doing this until after the warranty had expired though.
