Damn, 1 year warranty? What happened to the standard 3 years?

    • Aren’t external drives always 1-year warranty if they’re sold in the US? Aussie stock which covered by AU Consumer Law is 3 years IIRC.

      • Sounds odd, USA always gets the VIP treatment while the rest of world gets the higher prices, smaller selection, inferior service.

  • Nice spot!

  • I have only just bought the WD 18TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive for around $460. Is this a better deal?

    • WD > Seagate :)
      .

  • Does anyone trust it to arrive safely from the US? 😬

  • Apparently these are 16tb Exos drives inside. Has anyone shucked one?

    • They were back in 2020 when I bought a couple.
Exos labeled SATA drives with a USB-SATA board screwed onto them, drive held by some little rubber thingies inside the plastic shell.
No clue if they tweaked the firmware parameters at all to better suit being in the USB enclosure with poor airflow; they've behaved as regular plain SATA HDDs once I shucked them.

And as normal for these external drives the product packaging was sorta substantial, holding the drive using some cardboard or plastic shock absorber thing.

This is the first time I've seen the prices on this sort of Seagate external 3.5 inch drive drop back down near AUD$25/TB since then.

  • Just recieved mine in the mail, packaged "OKAY". DOM on the unit hs 01/06/2021 which is a bit concerning especially looking at previous comments of them being ex mining drives….
