Will the price drop further at BF sale? Probably yes and no.

  • I saw someone today buying this with $50 giftcards, @JV was it you?

  • I'm currently browsing security cameras to install outside the house and don't know where to start. Been looking into eufy and TP-Link. I don't think 4K is necessary, 2K should be enough. Preferably wireless and an option to store the footage on my NAS (I think they all do that? Correct me if I'm wrong). Any suggestions/personal experience would be greatly appreciated :)

NAS. Your going to have go a different path for that. Rules out the mainstream of arlo, eufy, nest etc.

Main factor of 2k vs 4k etc is night quality and the zoom in factor depending on location. Plenty of youtube comparision videos ou there

      • You can add a nas in the settings panel of each device/camera, haven't tried it yet as I put in a 2tb laptop drive in the base station.

  • Apart from a couple of Philips Hue lights and three Xiaomi thermometres, I have no smart home devices or cameras. Is Eufy worth buying and starting building the whole system on? I see they have other smart home device too.

Also might be a silly concern, but the cameras communicate with the base via wifi, right?
Do I need a subscription to view the picture on my phone when I'm away?

Also this from Eufy's product page:

    Can I use HomeBase 3 on Wi-Fi?
HomeBase 3 can only be connected to your network using an ethernet cable at this time. It will be able to connect to your network via Wi-Fi after a software update expected at the end of December 2022.

Also thinking how the cameras get "infite" power with the built-in solar panel, but at the same time, it's probably hard to optimise their location - you'd usually want it somewhat hidden or under some roof, right? - and angle, ie. the camera is pointed at something and it's not always that its back is going to be facing the sun exactly.

it can record to the home base, and you can add additional ssd storage to it. Nothing in the cloud which can be good or bad thing for different ppl.

    • Old information. Wifi works.

Local storage. Homebase 3 can just drop a cheap ssd in to extend the built-in storage.

      Can view remotely the recordings.

Cloud is an an optional service for backups (unlike arlo …). You dont need it, though one view stated is to use it say whilst on holidays so the storage isnt just locally held if the crooks took the base.

    • I love my cameras to be visible, not much about flexing, just deterrent

  • Would you really call these devices smart home tho? All the eufy device I have, they don't integrate fully with google home or apple.

  • +1

Am sure someone from previous posts stated about eufy uploading info to the cloud and other people could easily access it. Still might get it though.

My other thing as stated above is around solar panel and placement. Would it be easier to get the 3c one and just connect seperate solar panel. Can get them refurbished on eufy website every now and again for a good discount

It uploads a thumbnail so you can see the notification image. They got caught out being disingenuous about saying nothing was uploaded, when it was. There was a security concern about remote access , but that still needed physical access to the cameras to enact.

    • +1

Solar placement, indeed a case by case thing.

I have one that gets limited sun, and so far have needed to top it up once in 5 months, winter being an issue. It is ij a foot traffic area ao gets a workout.

    • I bought this exact kit in January, and placed all 4 cameras where they get some sun, and all 4 are still sitting on 100% - the two front cameras have well over 3,000 videos and over 5,000 detections each.

I did make a couple of brackets to get two of them out from under the eaves/soffits so that they got some sun - a couple of hours work and bits of scrap timber I had lying around.

  • if anyone can report how are these as sensor lights for the driveway?

    • Better off getting a flood light , they are stand alone (no home base) as well but link into the app.

  • How is this model regarding false detections like wind and sunlight/shadows?

    • +3

This base station has some AI, and you can choose to detect everything, or just a combination of people, animals & vehicles. I have had only a few (less than 10) false detections (that resulted in videos) from 4 cameras in 10 months. Compared to my old Arlo cameras (which seemed to detect any insect flying within 5m) these are a dream. They almost never detect shadows etc.

      • Appreciate the reply

Solar works great, cams always at 100% if they get some sun, but the motion detection on these are sometimes hit n miss

  • $1439.1 @ bunnings with price beat

  • Was considering these but now looking at the S340 which is also on special, https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/eufy-security-s340-3k-sol…

doesn’t require the Homebase either. Presuming I can RSTP to my Synology NAS - looking into this.

  • Highly recommended if you don't want the wires! I Wish I have bought the x4 camera pack instead of x2 in the last years' JB deal.

Solar makes a lot of difference over the non-solar version. I have my both camera ~100% battery during summer and ~80% during winter.

The "AI support" from the homebase 3 seems to have reduced significant amount of false detection compared to my old homebase 2.

Trigger of recording does have a bit of delay, but with proper positioning of the cameras should be able minimize the problems.

    • +1

The other thing that can help for the delay is using automation. I have one on my garage pointing down the driveway and one around the corner by my front door, so I have set them to trigger each other so the front door camera is already recording when someone walks around the corner from the driveway (for example) - so zero delay.

Mine all stayed at 100% right through winter - but I am in Brisbane, so winter is very sunny.

  • $1499 at device deal (they have a local store), so you can price beat at bunnings for a even better price.

    https://www.devicedeal.com.au/eufy-security-eufycam-3-4k-wir…

I would also suggest check out few new ranges they have like the S340 solocam ($359), although not 4K, it hsa few other functions and seems to be a better choice. Might worth purchase few of those and a homebase 3 seperatly.

    • Could probably get JBHiFi to match this and bring it down to $1499?

  • I bought them for 1799 from GG 3 weeks ago 😭

  • +2

I would recommend this to anyone who's in the market looking for security cameras.
    Why?
Thanks to the flush light and alarm, the system deterred two potential burglaries. Even the police officers were surprised that we could schedule the camera to raise alarm if it detected human activities in the mid of the night.

  • +5

For anyone whose keen to buy this, I've been able to get JBHiFi to get it down to $1399 by asking for a deal. Then I applied the 5% perks voucher and got it down to $1329.05. Then I paid with 15% off eGift cards, effectively bringing it down to $1,130.00!
