5% off AmpolCash $25, $50, $100, $250 & $500 Physical Gift Cards @ Ampol (Instore at Participating Locations Only)

870

It is the first Wednesday of November, which means this deal is back.

This deal seems to be only available at Ampol Foodary and Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations. These locations may not have any signage regarding this deal, but you should ask the attendant whether their AmpolCash gift cards are discounted by 5%.

This should be stackable with any Ampol cashback offer for instore spending. Please note the current AMEX cashback deal for the Ampol app cannot be stacked with this deal, because that cashback deal is not valid for any instore spend.

For anyone unfamiliar with AmpolCash physical gift cards:

  • They are accepted at all service stations listed on the Ampol store locator with EFTPOS facilities, including EG Ampol.1 (In contrast, AmpolCash Digital gift cards are only redeemable at around 60% of service stations listed on the Ampol store locator.)

  • They can be redeemed in conjunction with most fuel discount offers available across the Ampol network.

  • They cannot be used as a payment method for FuelPay via the Ampol app, nor Pay at Pump via the EG Club app.

  • AFAIK, they cannot be used to pay for any gift cards. I have tried this at Ampol Foodary and EG Ampol in the past (although not recently) and got error messages on the EFTPOS terminal every time saying that my payment method was not permitted.

  • Even if you set a PIN on an AmpolCash physical gift card, you do not need to enter the PIN to redeem the gift card if you paying instore. Swiping the gift card and only pressing Enter on the EFTPOS terminal on the PIN prompt screen is sufficient to redeem the funds on the gift card.

  • The only ways you can check the balance are to (1) check the receipt for the last purchase made using the gift card, (2) call the AmpolCash team during their operating hours or (3) email the AmpolCash team.

Offer terms and conditions

  • Offer is for 5% off AmpolCash physical gift cards (Card) purchased in participating stores only (excludes online purchases).
  • The Offer starts 12:01am 01/11/23 AEDT and ends 11:59pm 05/12/23.
  • The Offer is applicable on denominations of $25, $50, $100, $250 and $500.
  • Customers are only eligible to redeem AmpolCash gift cards in exchange for fuel or in-store products after the purchase of promotional AmpolCash and it is not redeemable for cash.
  • AmpolCash physical gift cards expire on the last day of the month, as stated on the Card, or if no month is stated, 36 months after the date of the purchase of the Card. Any balance that remains after expiry will not be available to use.
  • AmpolCash physical gift card can be used at Ampol outlets where EFTPOS terminals are available and operational.
  • AmpolCash cannot be used to purchase other gift cards (including other AmpolCash cards), prepaid or post-paid phone or internet vouchers, transport tickets, mobile phones and accessories, Tolls payments, or lottery tickets.
  • AmpolCash physical gift card availability varies from retailer to retailer.
  • Not valid with any other offer.
  • For full AmpolCash terms and conditions, please visit: https://www.ampol.com.au/fuel-cards/ampolcash/conditions-of-…

  1. AmpolCash physical gift cards can only be used at unattended locations if the gift card has PIN verification enabled.
    - You can enable PIN verification at the time of purchase by telling the attendant you would like to set a PIN. The attendant will ask you to swipe the gift card and key in your desired PIN.
    - Otherwise, you can email [email protected] with the gift card number on the front of the card and a copy of the gift card proof of purchase and request PIN verification to be enabled on the gift card.

    Thanks Wookie

Perfect timing! I’m just going to ask for one and see if it’s discounted at the pos. Great post, much thanks.

  • +2

Wookie!….you could have told me 2hrs ago when i filled up with $75 worth of fuel with the amex deal. All good can stack with my other cards, and only miss out on $5….

    • +5

      Oops, sorry!

For future reference, in the last couple of years, Ampol Foodary (and Ampol Woolworths Metro, but that is not relevant to you) has started these deals on the first Wednesday in April and the first Wednesday in November.

    • For the $60 spend and $5 off Amex deal, does that mean I can refuel $10 and buy a $50 gift card, I get $5 back?

      • +1

Yep. I’ll just be getting $100 and $50 cards and splitting them across 2 different Amex $75 payments.

      • +6

No, $50 card for $47.50 so that you need to spend $12.50 more. Do your own maths as the offers vary.

  • +1

    Thanks for sharing!

  • +2

Don’t forget 10c off fuel till 3rd November on the connect Toyota app
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803230

    • Can’t stack them together I think

      • +3

        1) Buy Amex GC offer, stack with 5%
        2) fill up
        3) Use 10c Toyota

        • +4

The service station attendant serving me a few hours ago actually said a couple of customers just before I got there filled up their vehicles first, went into the convenience store, saw the 5% off signs, bought gift cards at a discount, then immediately used those gift cards to pay for their fuel.

          • @WookieMonster: they must have saw me.
            1/ Fill up
            2/ Scan WW reward
            3/ Scan Toyota
            4/ Purchase gc
            5/ activate gc
            6/ use the gc

  • Nice

  • Might be able to stack with the Amex offers?

    • I bought a discounted AmpolCash physical gift card this evening using my AMEX, so I will let you know when I receive the cashback credit.

It has worked in the past for me and for others.

      • +1

Yes I have done this before and it worked.

    • I just received cashback on my AMEX card for the AmpolCash gift card purchase.

  • +2

Only 5%? used to be 10%… Besides ampol around my area is 20c more expensive compare to others

  • Can I use Woolworths 4c off/litre fuel voucher?

    • Yes, as long as you pay instore at EG Ampol or participating Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations.

I have been redeeming AmpolCash physical gift cards in conjunction with the Woolworths fuel voucher (and one EG Club / partner discount offer) at multiple EG Ampol service stations for over a year and it has worked every single time I have paid instore, including my last fuel purchase on the weekend.

I have also redeemed an AmpolCash physical gift card in conjunction with the Woolworths fuel voucher at Ampol Foodary in the past and had no issues when paying instore.

You cannot redeem any AmpolCash physical gift cards when paying from your car via Pay At Pump on the EG Club app (and I mention this, because you can redeem the Woolworths fuel voucher when paying via Pay At Pump).

There is also one independent Ampol service station in suburban Hobart that gives you a 4c/L discount if you present a Woolworths fuel voucher, but I do not know if they will also let you use an AmpolCash gift card as a payment method in the same transaction. Considering your apparent location, that is probably something you do not need to worry about…

      • @WookieMonster no real issue in swiping the physical card and getting x cents off, it’s just a normal card transaction. If they were going to refuse, they can’t tell until it’s too late anyways……

Interestingly, have recently been refused x cents off at my regular Ampol station when using Ampol digitalcash. When I asked (as an alternative) at the Ampol you linked, they also indicated they wouldn’t honour a discount using Ampol digitalcash. Good time to stock up of the physical cards.

        • Interestingly, have recently been refused x cents off at my regular Ampol station when using Ampol digitalcash.

Was this at a Bennett’s Petroleum or an Ampol Foodary? I know that Bennett’s Petroleum state in their terms and conditions of their fuel discount offers that you cannot use them in conjunction with AmpolCash gift cards.

When I asked (as an alternative) at the Ampol you linked, they also indicated they wouldn’t honour a discount using Ampol digitalcash. Good time to stock up of the physical cards.

To be honest, I am hardly surprised, because they offer similar discounts to Bennett’s Petroleum, plus they seem to try to be the cheapest Ampol in Hobart, so letting you stack a fuel discount offer and AmpolCash would really eat into their margins…

  • haven't paid for fuel for years always used my ED's ;)

    • ED's?

      • -1

        Everyday rewards of course

        • Ah… of course….

        • It's ER, not ED. Or ERD for Everyday Rewards Dollars. No wonder no one understood what you said.

            • +2

@test8888: Preset the amount @ the pump and not use any discount voucher. Maybe his EDR$ are all earned from giftcard sales that generate no fuel voucher now.

EDR is the correct form as it has been used on a Woolies printed receipt.

7/11 chopper still cheaper than 10c off

    • +3

I guess that is true for you and your circumstances.

At the moment, if I wanted to make use of the chopper, I would need to make a 700km one-way road + ferry trip the nearest 7-Eleven service station. I think the cost of fuel and the ferry ticket would far outweigh any potential savings…

Such a trip would be in vain anyway, because if I went to an EG Ampol near me instead and purchased U91 at $1.929/L, I could use a Woolworths fuel voucher and an Origin Energy fuel voucher to bring the price down to $1.829/L. If I used a 5% discounted AmpolCash physical gift card as a payment method, the price ends up being $1.738/L, which is cheaper than the chopper at the moment for U91 ($1.769/L).

The chopper is not always cheaper.

  • +2

Didn't know this deal would return. I asked the cashier last week about 5%, but as they weren't WookieMonster they had no idea. I still have 75% of my Amex Ampol offers to use, still benefits me thanks

    • lol it's not like they have staff meetings to discuss what discounts coming up

usually they just find out on the day

  • Has anyone had any experience redeeming more than one AmpolCash card in a transaction?

    • +2

      Yes, do this often.

      • Thanks, was wondering how to best use my $13.xx balance left on an old virtual gift card.

  • ampol is mostly high cost then other service centres and also, ampol cash is not accepted on all the ampol stations so not sure if it is worth locking this much money unless you are truck driver who fills up $500 per day.. and lives close to Ampol

    • +2

I guess that depends on your area and the competition nearby. The Ampol at Springvale is 181.9 whereas the nearby ones are 185.9

    • Shell and BP are the high cost ones I reckon… for me anyway

  • +1

Also discounted on Commbank awards if anyone is interested

    • Targeted offer. Activ Visa worked for me in split payments (for those having no credits offer).

    • Can this be combined with Commbank awards cashback?

      • +2

Yes, they are 2 unique offers from unrelated parties. Remember you’re paying $95 for a $100 gift card, or $47.50 for a $50 card. Make sure the commbank spend requirement is met.

        • Yes, I find most CBA offers require in one purchase, unlike AmEx.

  • Anyone know if ampol takes split payment? Ie/ buy $500 ampol card but split over 3 amex cards?

    • +2

Their checkout system will let you do split payments. In my experience, attendants will let you do split payments too.

      • not sure about Ampol but in 7 Eleven maximum cards is 3 in one transaction….

        anyone confirm limit for Ampol?

  • Can Woolworths 4c off and NRMA disocunt be used in same transaction?

    • +1

Officially speaking, no. The terms of the My NRMA discount says it cannot be used in conjunction with any another fuel discount or loyalty offer.

In reality, it may work, it may not work. It depends on two factors:

      • The same conditions apply for Toyota discount however some sites are able to accept both everyday rewards and Toyota discount together.

The Toyota discount does say "this offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer."

Saying that what you need to find is a Ampol Foodary which accept everyday rewards to earn points, accepts 4 cent off from Everyday Rewards and Ampol fuel discount.

Each program is actually separate, and the owner of the site need to accept it. I believe these sites are back when Ampol and Woolworths agreed for a couple of sites to be operated by Ampol but under the Woolworths Caltex fuel Brand. Normally these are sites that accepted the 4 cent off but didn't accept wish gift card.

Thankful with the rebranding it's easier to find these sites. There at least two sites where you can get both discounts.

        • Hold on, there are some Caltex that let you pay using Wish gift cards???
Is there an easy way to identify which ones accept them?

          • +1

@Xishnik: There were previously some Caltex / Ampol service stations operated by Caltex / Ampol that used to accept physical WISH and Essentials gift cards as a payment method, but that ended in September 2021. My understanding is that these same Caltex / Ampol service stations never accepted digital WISH and Essentials gift cards as a payment method.

All EG Ampol service stations will currently let you use WISH gift cards as a payment method for fuel, but I doubt that is what you are interested in.

        • Saying that what you need to find is a Ampol Foodary which accept everyday rewards to earn points, accepts 4 cent off from Everyday Rewards and Ampol fuel discount.

The easiest way to do this is to look on the Ampol store locator.

As an aside, none of the Ampol service stations in Tasmania accept Everyday Rewards, as all Ampol service stations in Tasmania are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards programme. However, six Ampol Foodary service stations in Tasmania will give you a 6c/L discount when you redeem a Woolworths fuel voucher, which is arguably better than earning 1x point per $1 spent on fuel through Everyday Rewards…

I believe these sites are back when Ampol and Woolworths agreed for a couple of sites to be operated by Ampol but under the Woolworths Caltex fuel Brand. Normally these are sites that accepted the 4 cent off but didn't accept wish gift card.

When the Caltex Woolworths joint venture was dissolved in 2015, Caltex fully re-integrated about 130 service stations (already operated by them) into their operations and rebranded them to remove the Woolworths branding on the convenience store. Roughly 30 of these immediately stopped accepting the Woolworths fuel voucher, but over the years, about 100 more Caltex-operated service stations starting accepting the Woolworths fuel voucher.

The Caltex service stations still accepting Woolworths fuel vouchers continued to accept physical WISH and Essentials gift cards as a payment method until September 2021. I do not think these service stations were ever able to accept digital WISH and Essentials gift cards.

          • @WookieMonster: oh you saying Ampol Foodary ones that accept the Woolies Fuel Discount can stack on the 10c Toyota discount if the staff is nice enough to do it?

            • @Poor Ass: My earlier comment also applies to the Toyota discount offer.

Different Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations have checkout systems that are programmed differently, so I cannot guarantee that it is possible to stack the two fuel discount offers at all participating Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: I had recently attempted a NRMA + WW (EDR) stack in inner north Brisbane, the NRMA one didn't go through, with the WW 'next fuel discount will expire on' printed on the Ampol Foodary receipt and thus ended up burning the WW discount off the EDR card.

Has attempted again at another Foodary just north of Brisbane. Attendant reset the system and asked me to pick one stating he couldn't stack the discounts.

                YMMV

                • @abr83: you always scan the biggest discount last if you are testing a stack

so I'll be doing Woolies 4c first + Toyota 10c + Ampol GC

  • Just out of interest is anyone buying the $100 gift card with the HSBC Paywave rebate, or do you need to put a pin in?

I do suggest you do setup a pin when you buy the physical gift cards to allow you to use OPT.

    • well you can't use $100 it has to be $99.99 or less

no OPT were I am so no PIN needed

      • +1

Well if you buy the gift card its $95.

        • lol yeah true

my local doesn't even stock only $50 and $25

          I haven't even seen $250 or $500 ever

  • Has anyone actually seen a $500 card?

  • I rang up a couple of locations asking if they had the promotion, but they said no. Maybe need to wait a couple of days for an update.

    • +1

maybe just go in-store and get them to scan it lol

    • The deal is available in NSW.

    • +1

Bought one today in VIC before paying for fuel.
      Ampol GC $250 x 0.95 = $237.50
Paid using a Vanilla card bought a few weeks back -> 7.3% off -> $220.16
      10x Reward Points from ER = 2375 points = $11.88
Net = $208.28 (83.31%) (assuming I would have otherwise paid the $11.88 at WWS in cash)

      U91 $1.839/litre
      Toyota -$0.10/litre => $1.739/litre
      $1.739 x 83.31% = $1.45/litre

Haven't included the original credit card and FB points earned during purchase of the Vanilla Card at Coles, or the 10x Reward Points from the fuel today.

Dunno if the calculation above makes sense or is correct…

      • 10x Reward Points for fuel spend over $30+, unless the setup has not excluded gift cards. I think this offer hit over half of total members.

        • Only got the offer on 1 of the few in the family.

Just checked and you are right, 10x on fuel and in store but excludes GC purchases.

          Therefore correction
          Ampol GC $250 x 0.95 = $237.50
Paid using a Vanilla card bought a few weeks back -> 7.3% off -> $220.16
          $220.16 / $237.50 = 0.927

          U91 $1.839/litre
          Toyota -$0.10/litre => $1.739/litre
          $1.739 x 92.7% = $1.612/litre

          • @hubs1982: Vanilla may be used to buy 6% discount Ampol digital on Shopback. The offer reoccurs every 3 months or so. You can clear the whole balance on it in one purchase.

            • @Neoika: @Neoika Thanks for sharing and will keep an eye out for that offer to pop up on SB.

  • got 2x$500 yesterday. Store staff was not aware of the promotion. Asked staff to scan the card and 5% discount appeared :)

  • OMG. I never knew this deal existed over the years.
Used to stock of on digital cards when on sale.

Ended up buying 5x$100 today and as each tap was $95 using HSBC, that's a 6.9% OFF which alongwith the EDR fuel discount means around 17.5c off for $2/L .

WOW. No more searching the cheapest fuel station like crazy, just an Ampol that's less than 18c more than the cheapest.
