  • bought a month ago for 2.7k, great price

    • It has hdmi 2.1? Support 120hz?

      • Yes. I'm running windows and games 4k 120Hz chroma 4.4.4 10bit with variable refresh rate. 75inch.

        • Must be great experience. I own 55inch sony oled. Not enjoying its 2017 model

          • @Zeee: I am afraid i cant look anything then oled screen now?

            • @Zeee: I would buy oled but seeing as I use it as a giant computer monitor I would definitely get burn in.

          • @Zeee: Yeah it's great. Need some horse power to run the panel like that though. Cpu 5800x and 6800xt red devil gpu is just fine.

            • @mckayver: I have 7940hs amd cpu, 32gig ram, hdmi 2.1 support output of 144hz 4k

              • @Zeee: What tv are you running.

                TCL do 144hz.

                • @mckayver: I have dell 4k 144hz monitor. Not tv

                • @mckayver: Tv is sony kd55a1. 60hz :(

I would need to purchase a bigger lounge room I think.

IMO get rid of box-damaged items in Ebay Sony, I bought one 1 month ago and I found there were lots of dead pixels on the 2 top corners, and then I got 2 replacements with the similar issue.

So I assume it is not only "box-damaged" but kind of faulty items.

If you really care about a bit lower price and don't care that much about the little area deal pixels, might be worth buying it, or get rid of it.

    • No refund?what you did after the second time?

      • +2

They insisted to send a 3rd replacement and I tested it last night.

I'm asking for a refund now.

        • +1

God, even the third one has the issue. Thats not right at all

          • @Zeee: Yeah and that's why I said I thought this is not really only "box-damaged" as they promised which shouldn't affect the quality of products.

            • @xjcs88: If that's the case, it should be 100$

            • +2

@xjcs88: To be honest, it could just be a bad batch. Damaged screens usually get filtered out early in the process and sold to different vendors. If this were a smaller monitor I would replace it as many times as it took for $1000 savings but these aren't easy to set up, so I can sympathise how annoying it would be to go through the entire process multiple times!

Still, it's a significant savings. There shouldn't be any damage or fault to the unit itself and it should come with the full warranty.

              • @TheFyrd: In general, I would be happy to choose this if only the box is damaged, since we care about the tv itself, not the fancy box (and the box is not fancy)

But if there would be dead pixels or bright pixels, then no, I won't consider about that, if I care for price that much I won't go for Sony at all obviously.

And, like I said in another reply, I bought it at $1349, it was not a steal price as I saw some deals around 1500-1600 with brand new condition.

                • @xjcs88: Yeah definitely makes sense, for $200 you'd rather not go through the whole process but the point I guess we're making is that if you did receive a TV with dead or bright pixels you should be covered with a replacement. So other than some time and effort, you stand to save $1000 with the current deal.

Your experience sounds like a bad batch.

                  • +3

                    @TheFyrd: I hope so, as I'm a die-hard Sony fan for almost 20 years.

That made me feel really bad for such quality control.

                    • -1

@xjcs88: I wonder if the damage to the boxes caused screen issues, eg. The boxes were dropped and the all the internal components jolted

                      • +1

@Pusdi: I don't think so, 3 boxes were not so bad, especially for the 3rd one, the box was almost perfect.

I’ve purchased 2 box damaged TV’s from Sony eBay, both in brand new condition. I wouldn’t call $1950 vs $2995 a “bit lower price”. There’s an element of risk with these box damaged items, but you have several layers of protection if you are unfortunate enough to receive a faulty item.

      What model did you buy?

      • I don't think I've got a much lower price for my item as I paid 1349 for it and the best deal price was like around 1600 for a brand new one.

Also, there is nothing to to with the several layers of protection as obviously you can't precisely break like 50 pixels right on both corners for some "collision".

And I'm just sharing my experience and my opinion, I personally won't trust the "box-damaged" label from them. Not for 3 units in a row.

    • +1

BTW, the model I bought was A80J 55 inch.

      • That’s a bummer for sure. Box damaged or Seconds? I would think new A80J stock would have been depleted quite some time ago?

        • Mine was "box-damaged", and I avoided the seconds in purpose. But still a very unpleased experience.

          • @xjcs88: That’s nuts that you got three units with the same issue. Never heard of that happening to anyone before.

I’d be pushing for an A80K replacement, if not a refund, with that experience. The A80J is a 2 1/2 year old model, who knows what sort of stock they’re sending you.

But again, paying around 1/2 RRP for a $3k comes with risk.

@aja12: I bought Apple refurbished products before and they have a way better QC for sure.

I know it is cheaper but once Sony guarantees us it is only box-damaged and the tv should be brand new, then it should be what it says.

I'm not buying from other place, I'm with Sony directly and that is how they advertise their ebay store.

                @xjcs88:

No manufacturer in the world can guarantee there are no faults, they can guarantee that faulty items will be replaced under warranty.

bought Apple refurbished products before and they have a way better QC for sure.

Because they are refurbished. Your TV wasn’t. A small percentage of people buy brand new Apple products that are faulty too. That’s why we have warranties and consumer laws.

I'm not buying from other place, I'm with Sony directly and that is how they advertise their ebay store.

Not sure what you’re actually saying here.

At the end of the day, you paid $1300 for a TV that had a RRP of $3000 and it’s not working out for you, which sucks, but you took on a level of risk with that generous discount.

                • @aja12: OK, what you are saying is "correct" but not acceptable per my understanding.

It's like you go to Sony store and buy a tv, it's faulty, then they are happy to replace it for you, then it is faulty as well, and they do it a 3rd time, it is still faulty.

I will be very upset in such a scenario, and don't forget Sony is a decent and leading brand in TV.

And talking about RRP of a 2-years-ago tv is so strange.

And for the one you didn't get:

Click this deal's link and then check the right pane, it says: "Direct from Sony. Item sold directly by the brand. "

    • I got a 75" X90K off them 4 years ago as box damaged for significant savings and didn't have an issue. I think this is one of those things where you may have just been unlucky with what happened to that batch to make them box damaged.

Box damaged is specifically supposed to be not opened and returned, but just the box has been damaged in transit. Usually that is innocuous damage, but I guess your experience shows it is inconsistent. I wouldn't do it to save 200 bucks, but for the slightly over 1k I did, definitely worth a roll of the dice.

      • +1

Yep, since it was so annoying to unbox and setup and check… I also talked to reps asking for a further discount (I said another $300, so the final price would be $1049), but he said they won't possibly do that.

And for the second one I asked for refund and he said they gonna send a 3rd one.

And last night I tested the 3rd one, slightly better but still very bad to me, about 10 dead pixels on left top and 20 dead pixels on right top.

Tired of unboxing - setting up - checking - packing - waiting to be picked up…

        • annoying and def not worth it for a few hundred!

      • +1

        I got a 75" X90K off them 4 years ago

Did they deliver it in a DeLorean?

        • I checked, X8500.

    • +1

I bought Sony box damaged on 2 different occasions and they arrived brand new with no box damage (box didn't appear to have been previously opened either) and have been perfect.

    • Since they’re sold out now, will replacement still be possible?

  • Perhaps mandarins and oranges but if you need a soundbar too..

Sony 75-inch XR X90L 4K Full Array LED Google TV and Sony HT-A3000 Compact 3.1 Channel Dolby Atmos Soundbar for $3,071.50 plus 10% back in gift cards, at Harvey Norman.

I bought a Sony box damaged A90K from this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800291

There was no box damage except for a tiny imperfection, like a 1CM deep dent in the box, no wider than a 50c coin. I only saw that because I was looking hard for it. TV was perfect. I would buy from them again.

    • Sounds like luck of the draw though compared to xjcs88s post above so definitely YMMV

      • +1

It's been speculated that many of the box damaged are just Sony selling excess inventory of the old/current model when a new model comes out. I mean these deals usually have 1000s - and many people report them appearing brand new.

I mean, even brand new products fail. That's why products have warranties.

  • Can these tv easily fit in the lift and enter through your apartment door…? Or they only made for houses

    • Box dimensions are on the website. Generally the tv is close to 190cm wide.
When I lived in a unit I got mine up 3 flights of stairs

      • Great thanks.

I purchased a x90k 85”, after waiting over three weeks for delivery it’s being returned today as it has dust and insects in the screen… not sure what kind of QC Sony has.

    • +1

      Dust, fair enough I guess?

Insects?! LOL. Box damaged, may come with some extra protein

      • Yeh they tried to claim “infestation” voids the warranty but we’re pretty quick to accept it was delivered like that. Whilst it was a huge pain to deal with them purchasing via eBay provided some peace of mind given the return policy offered.

Sony originally wanted it sent from Perth to Sydney for inspection prior to a replacement being sent. After pointing out my rights under the ACL they finally agreed to have the local rep come and collect it.

    • +1

Sorry for your experience, but Sony Australia seems to be more unreliable than before.

I know they don't have an after-sales team and all the technicians doing the repairing/checking are from European Electronics if I remember correctly.

Also they cancelled the mobile phones in Australian market too.

I just hope they care about their reputation like they do on other major markets.

      • Ah, so nice & local in Vic. I recently got my Panasonic UHD 4k player multi region unlocked for the DVD by them, free via Panasonic.

    • Display?

  • Damn. Amazing price.

  • What do people watch on these things?

    • +5

      Ads, mostly

  • +3

A lot of 'box damaged' from Sony direct are not actually damaged. It's just the only way they can sell TV's away from their retail partners, otherwise it's considered they are selling against them, which is against their commercial agreement. Usually, there is nothing wrong with these units. At worst they put a small indent in the box themselves.

  • I got the 65" version of this on previous 20-22% off deal, small damage to box, but TV is brand new.
prices went down a week later, and they refunded the discount - no probs, amazing services.
This is amazing price for a 75".

  • This type of Sony deal might be unobtainable in the future. It looks like Sony have updated all the listings for "Box Damaged" to show the status as new/never used so that the refurbished 20/22% off codes won't work.
