It's annoying these are the standard now. I find it far easier and simpler to just cast stuff from my phone directly to the TV, without the need for a remote and a separate "smart" interface.

    • I would agree with this but with one exception. The Kayo App for LG tv is such a mess but the Chromecast works so much better. The issue is I have 1080p Chromecast vs TV/ kayo is 4k. So end up using the Slow TV app

      • You are 100% correct. The Kayo app is absolute junk except streaming to a Chromecast from your phone, or watching it directly on a phone or desktop. Every other TV app is abysmal.

    • Can't you still use your phone to cast?

I'm not saying you can't, I'm saying I don't want/need the remote and the "hub" that comes built in with it.

    • Thanks il hold out for black friday or boxing day sale.

  • related the the previous chromecast tv devices.
Trying to do the 'add usb port to access external devices" hack.

Anyone know if you can do this to sideload movies from a USB that has movies already loaded on them before plugging them into the usb port.

Only advice ive found so far is for having to erase and format usb first.
which kind of defeats what im trying to achieve.

    thanks in advance

That's not at all the intended use case for these devices, they have only 8GB of internal storage, so probably barely a few gigabytes of data free after Android and apps installed. What you're looking for is an actual Android TV box like the Mi Box. It has additional USB ports for that kind of thing.

      • appreciate the info, although something for me to consider in the future, atm just looking to hack the cheomecast (not 4k either).

seen people connect a usb port to tyem but they only really talk about using the usb as a storage for things on the chromecast such as games and extra apps.
        Not looking for that.
Instead i have a lot of movies on comouter harddrive and want to watch them on my tv.
was limited to usb stick size (and possible type), as it wont allow me to do this witg a harddrive attached to the tv (compatability issues¿).

managed to get a 1tb usb stick to work directly on tv but it wont play certain movies or episodes from it.

        managed to get
