If only it comes with removable battery.
I'm still on LG V20 and it's the goat

Got the 512gb few months ago for $820 by negotiating. Good phone for gaming, runs smooth with good battery life and charges fast too. It crashed 2-3 time which never happened to me with my Samsung phones for years.

  • tempting but i think red magic 8s pro is still better but doesn't seem to have a lot of au market coverage :/

Lots of translation issues apparently, if that doesn't bug you then yeah, it's at least a generation ahead.

I finally got my ROG6, love it. Rarely use it for gaming but it's a great daily driver.
Lots of battery - 30-40% at the end of a day
      Wicked fast charging
OS is actually good (coming from Pixel 7 Pro)
      Cameras are good
Screen is great, touch is good, fingerprint reader is fast

Only peeve so far is the screen doesn't go super dim. It's still dim, and Wikipedia is acceptable for bed reading, it's just it doesn't have that extra low light.

      • There's a software switch for that in Android 13.

        • Yeah there is, and I use it, it's still not as dim as my P7Pro. Tbh, not even sure it makes a discernible difference.

  • 8gen 3 is basic

More ram than an Apple Macbook M3 Pro.

Hoping Snapdragon X will make Apple honest.

        • -4

It won't because the integration between windows (any OS) and it will never be at the same level Apple can achieve.

@scud70: Wow, the apple brainwash is always fascinating to see like this

            • @Salmando: Im a pc/android user who refuses to buy anything apple, doesn't mean what they make or how they integrate their OS with their own SoCs isnt impressive and years ahead of the competition. Acknowledging a good product even if you are not a fan of the brand doesn't make you brainwashed. Reality here is the efficiency and performance apple get from their own hardware is from their level of software and hardware integration and this wont change just because a third party releases an impressive chip, without the same level of OS integration it will still lag behind the competition…its fairly basic premise.

              • @scud70: Maybe you need to use their products instead of reading their reviews. My Apple products and software fault as much as it more than my other products.

                • @Salmando: You assume i don't because i said i wouldn't purchase them personally, My work phones for the last 7-8 years have been iPhones, i've had jobs where we had to manage Macbooks and imacs, i have hand me down iPads at home that my kids use and my daughter prefers apple so if she saves up she's free to buy an apple product with my guidence. I read and watch reviews because i've been in IT for 25+ years and tech is my hobby aside from my work.

Again, having issue's is part of tech and IT, getting better perfomance/efficiency from hardware due to your tight integration with software is different story. Look at the shit show that is Windows on ARM vs MacOS on Apples SoC for context.

But why does one need more than 8gb RAM? 🤣

      • +4

I was buying a Nexus 7 tablet and asking a few questions in regards to to it and I remember this idiot salesman from Harvey Norman said to me:

Why would anyone ever need more than 2GB of RAM!

        • Back in the day it was the same statement about 64k of RAM.

When a phone that is cheaper comes with more RAM and more storage than my MacBook….

    • Still expensive for a phone, which is honestly a pretty useless device at this pay point without having an amazing camera.

    • DDR5 too, like MacBook M3 ;-)

Love the bolded 3.5mm headphone jack description:-)

  • You can literally run a local instance of a gpt-like chatbot on this lol

I have the white version. I have been using it for the last year or so.

Great phone on all accounts. Only negative I can think of is weight. It's super heavy compared to other non-gaming phones.

My favourite features are no cam notches/teardrop/islands (god I hate those), front facing symmetrical stereo speakers and the god-tier battery life.

I know i have compulsive issues when i want to buy this phone even though i have an s23 ultra 🤣

Is the ASUS ROG 7 Ultimate not available anymore?

Would going from the iPhone 13 Pro Max to this be a downgrade?

I bought Apple to appease my fiance with IMessage compatibility…but let’s face it Apple sucks, and the sooner I exit their ecosystem the better.

    • How often do you use your camera? I think it would be a downgrade for the camera but an upgrade for everything else.

      • Hardly ever.

    • You can set up a separate AppleID to run iMessage on Android with this :) https://www.androidauthority.com/how-imessage-on-android-or-…

Just be aware that Beeper has access to the AppleID account (hence the suggestion to set up a separate one just for iMessage)

Only one more year of OS and security upgrades it seems? Companies should be forced to offer at least 4 years of support in top tier devices just as much as not including cables etc.

    Got 1, thanks OP

  • The price isn't bad, would suggest Lenovo legion y90, same thing but I'm hoping to see Snapdragon oryon next year in single board pc's like raspberry pi.

Why is this important well a powerful igpu with Oryon as a pc that does 50 tops of AI, and run windows, play emulators and sync with your phone as lil Nas home system all in your pocket.

Facinating times ahead, but $999 for this phone is subjective buy it if you need it, not because you want it.

    Thanks OP

I ended up changing from iPhone 13 pro max to this, The phone is a beast and it shipped with a beast charger, it charged my phone from 16% (shipped) to 100% in less than 25 minutes.
I made money on it, got a better phone (minus the camera) and finally got out of the apple ecosystem.
Now I won't get asked every 2 hours if I want to buy iCloud Storage or have to buy charging cables other phones have been using for the last 5 years.

  • What's the screen like?

My ROG3 has horrific black banding. If you don't know what that is, basically all very dark scenes look like they're compressed to a single shade of pitch black. You can't make out anything in dark scenes.

  • +1

This screen is on par with the iPhone 13 pro max, possibly a bit more vibrant.
