I have the 30,000 mAh power bank from the immensely popular deal last time. It's very slightly cheaper this time.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/773828

At the time, it tested at 85% efficiency (95Wh usable). Pretty good really if you need a giant, but cheap power bank.

I just bought another. I use the original it with a PD trigger module to get 12V and run sound activated, addressable LEDs for various things.

My original one has been used a bunch, so I will stick it on my load tester overnight and see if there is any noticeable degradation in capacity.

    • I only did the one load tester run (they take a while) so there is a little more margin for error than my original tests, but I am seeing about 3.8% loss of capacity due to wear.

That's a pretty good result IMO considering the price, and the amount of use this power bank has had. It certainly gives me confidence it will a few hundred cycles at least.

Of course, that is a lower lifespan compared to higher end battery banks using different cell chemistry and/or better quality cells. But it is $30 delivered, so bang for buck is good!

    • Hey, I asked this elsewhere but couldn't get an answer.

I'm planning on doing some travel and I have one of these wall chargers:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787029

It has an Australian plug, can I plug that into any old travel adapter and still take advantage of the 65W charging as I would in Australia, for example:

      https://www.amazon.com.au/EU-Adaptor-Appliances-America-Excl…
      or

      https://www.amazon.com.au/LENCENT-Grounded-European-Portugal…

Or will it be throttled by whatever speed the adapter is limited to? Do I need to buy a "high speed" travel adapter? What do I make of the "4000 Watt (max 250 Volt, 16 A)" in the description?

      • +1

Yep, any old travel adapter is fine and the 65W charging is not affected.

The travel adapter is effectively up to 2400W, so will never be a bottleneck.

The only thing to check is the input voltage on the Lencent charger. It should say something like 100V to 250V, or similar numbers. If travelling to somewhere with 110V power, it's important - but I have not seen a charger that does not support both 240V and 110V for a very long time.

        • +1

Lovely! The bottom of the Lencent charger says "Rating 250V ~50Hz, 10A Max, 2500W Max". It doesn't have a range but I assume it'll work in most European nations which seem to be 220-240V.
          Thanks for the response Prong!

    This is a good deal.
Before purchasing the 30,000mAh model however, please be aware that you cannot take power banks with a capacity of more than 100Wh (27,000mAh) on any flight

  • Does this power bank really have a 12V battery ?

    • +1

No, these types of portable powerbanks do not contain 12v batteries.
A Polymer lithium cell is typically 3.7v
The internal DC-DC circuitry increases the voltage to the required output.

I negged because I had to return mine as this powerbank failed to continuously charging my 3 different phones. It kept turning on and off by itself. Later i learned that Baseus wirless powerbank has lots of issues. I had to ask ebay to step in for refund as baseus ebay reluctant to accept return request .

    • I'm guessing it was overheating?

Thermal issues are one of the main reasons these fail to wireless charge properly

    • This one is different model though

  • theres also a listing for 22.5w 10000mAh $27.53 or $21.47 with ebay plus: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313876486910

  • I got mine today, and apparently this powerbank cannot see how much current goes in while charging?
I find it weird because any other powerbank with display can do that

    • Yeah the display is capacity % only. Which is normal for a 20W power bank.

Offhand I can't think of any 20W power banks with voltage or current display. In my experience it is only on higher output power banks that do 20V.

*Edit. Just randomly noticed from the comment above yours, the 22.5W Adaman version is listed as showing voltage and current. I have not seen it in person though. It's about the same price on eBay and at a glance the spec looks the same otherwise. This link below is very slightly cheaper than the one above.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/363742797354

      • Thanks for clarifying, I thought mine is faulty because there's a button on the powerbank that doesn't seems do anything.
In the past I've used Rommoss 18w powerbank, and it's able to display in/out currents and voltage.

        • The power button? That just brings it out of sleep mode.

          • @Prong: Gotcha… just to see how many % left in the battery while it's not used

    • From the selection of power priced banks only the Romoss could do that but they've put up their prices a fair bit since.

  • So I bought the 30,000mah version, charged it to full - now I notice it looks like it's 'bulging' on the top and bottom. Going by the promo pics, it might just be the design as the casing has beveled edges. Though I didn't really take notice of what it looked like before charging :/

Don't suppose anyone here could check if theirs is also slightly curved on the top and bottom panels?

    Thanks

    • +1

Yeah the shape does create a bulge like feeling.

But battery bulge when new is possibly if there's a bad cell.

I have an older one from a previous deal and I just bought another, so I'll take a photo or two when I get home tonight as a comparison.

      • Neato, cheers for that :)

        • +1

Ok so I compared mine, and they both have a kind of bulge look. It's the same amount on each, and it appears to be just how the top of the power bank plastic is curved. I have a 10K and it looks the same. So I would say yours is likely normal unless the bulge is huge.

Here are some pics, but it was hard to capture the curve. It looks much more prominent in person.

@Prong: Nice, yeah that's pretty much the same. Another thought I had was they made it like this on purpose to 'hide' the presence of any actual bulging heh.

Good to know it's fine though, thanks again.
