I would definitely pay that just for the increased RAM. I haven't been looking for laptops for a couple of years, so wondering what is the consensus currently regarding this generation of AMD chips and their integrated graphics, value for money and compared to Intel's offerings?

      • +1

They generally have better battery life than the intel counterparts and a much better iGPU on the R7’s.

i got the R7/32gb on deal a short while ago and have been daily driving it (IT professional)
Love it - if you prefer a larger screen like i do, its a great laptop.

Obviously zero issues with performance with the specs
Lenovo vantage is a bit of a pain with updates/alerts but can be uninstalled.

Great build, screen, keyboard and touchpad
Using a dell dock and running 2 external screens fine

Charges mine off a 65W PD adapter too but im not stressing it with gaming etc.

I have also picked up the R7/32GB version of this for IT work (programming) from a previous deal.

Performance wise its a little slower to compile my workloads than the full desktop i7-10700 I was coming from but we are talking seconds of difference.

With the USB4/TB3 it is happy to run 3 x 4k60s (office) or 3 x 1440P @ 100hz (home) from dock via a single cable with one caveat that PD needs to be provided separately or it black screens for a few seconds every ~2 hours. So use 2 cables to dock this laptop with my setups (very first world problems). The laptop screen can be used as a 4th monitor but I am essentially out of desk at this point.

Build quality is a little be less than the Thinkbooks we have usually picked up for work but it is still a very nice to use laptop

        • The specs indicate that it comes with WiFi 6e. Can you check if you have an Intel card or mediatek/realtek please.

    • Can this be upgraded with a touch screen?

  • Would the Ryzen 7 with 32GB ram and 1TB for $1389 be best value system for everyday data crunching, few open apps, WFH laptop please? I couldn't find out if this has aluminium chasis. Will hook to 32" Monitor (yet to buy) . TIA ✌️

      Case material
      Aluminium (top), aluminium (bottom)

  • Grabbed the 32gb a few weeks back and love it. Kids decided to make my old one a 2 in 1.

    Good screen on it also.

  • Can someone share their thoughts on the R7 32gb vs the Macbook Air M2 15 inch with it's unified 8gb ram? Obviously the 1tb storage is way better than the 256gb you get with the Macbook Air!! I am trying to convert a Apple person by explaining that this is much better value and performance wise should be better in some aspects.. Is that true?

    • +2

You are correct but the build quality on the mac will be better. It's unlikely you will convince them if they are already an Apple.

The trackpad and even the keyboard etc on the macs are unbelievable.

M2 might hold it's own against this processor also.

Price would be way cheaper for this machine though.

I am lucky I got a MBP in 2015 for $1300 on sale via this site. I am typing on that and it still works perfect!

      • Cheers.. The longevity is their argument.. Mine is get a new laptop in 4 years and you will still have only paid (for 2 laptops) what you would for a MB Air.. With new specs again and potentially another 3 years warranty.. If I can win here, I might be a chance to get them off the Iphone, but I imagine that'll be a harder tasks! ;)

    • The way I see it, it doesn't really matter whether the Lenovo is better value, better performance or just plain better in every conceivable way, because if someone indeed is an Apple person, they're not going to like any laptop that runs Windows.
By the way, looks like Cashrewards is now advertising 16% cashback on Lenovo, which sould make this deal even better.

      • Was it another rewards site?
        I'm only seeing 3.3%

        • No, it was definitely cashrewards.com.au, but it was only for yesterday. I actually ended up ordering the Ryzen 7 version for myself, and the cashback tracked straight away at $226 (for a total purchase of $1415, as I added a three year battery replacement warranty).

  • i wish AMD would hurry up and produce more 7X40 CPUs…

  • 20% shopback + 15% westpac bonus ending tonight

  • I bought this a couple months, fanastic unit. Obviously it'd be nice if it was Zen 4 but for the everday office/web use there is a negligible difference. Zen 4 would come at a price premium anyway.

I was super impressed with the build quality. I expected standards windows laptop flabbyness (especially at this size) but it is a really nice full aluminium body.

  • My unit had OS freeze and did a diagnostic run, and it reported NO Fan detected. Did anyone have this same issue ? Can some help do a diagnostic check on theirs to see if a fan gets detected on their unit ? Thank you.

    • I shoud be able to do that tomorrow. But can you please tell how and what diagnostics was it that you ran?
