Could try price matching at JB, some people had mixed success with that in a previous post.
I just tried via chat, they refused stating they wont match outlet clearance.
if u buy it claim back the tax at the airport
Is this the steam os one?
Nope, but there are tutorials to install it online, refer to my previous post.
Will this be exactly the same as the steamos version after you install it yourself?
Only issue I have heard of is the touchpad being a bit finicky on the white one with steam os installed
@Dan24: Although I've read you should update the firmware using Windows when you first get it as it fixes a few input bugs etc.
Is there a reason for all these price drops?
Not great?
Mainly because the windows version is a crappy user experience, if you like to tinker and install steam os it's natively supported by valve now. At this price it's a good deal here's a comparison https://youtu.be/CJXp3UYj50Q?si=GC0L4qfEIEQQK9R9
I would wanna run all my Epic, GOG and steam launches tho. I wouldn’t play new release AAAs on it that’s for my PS5 but I have a big backlog of games on the above launches that I get free weekly with epic etc like everyone does. Can it play these games and Fortnite perfectly?
Fortnite, no, because of kernel-level anticheat incompatibility. Other games will work though.
GOG and Epic launchers are simple to handle with Heroic Games Launcher.
@skittlebrau: I read that the Heroic launcher isn’t great?
Kinda hard to set up and a bit of hit and miss
It can play all those games and Fortnite perfectly if you just leave Windows on it 🤗
There are plenty of launcher tools that will show your whole game library - just set one of those to run at Startup and you don't really need to see or interact with Windows.
@Nom: I think the point is more that Steam OS runs everything smoother, with better performance, and better battery life vs Windows.
@JownehFixIT: Yep, I totally agree - but if you want to play Windows anti-cheat titles like Fortnite and others, then you don't have much choice…
@Nom: You actually have the choice to dual boot though. Just run linux 99.9% of the time and dual boot to windows to run Fortnite. It works well on my ROG ally.
This is the Z2 Go version which about matches the Steam Deck. The "good version" of the Go S is the the one with the Z1E and 32GB RAM.
Which isn’t available in Australia correct?
I checked with online chat Friday and they said unavailable
i suppose Legion Go 2 is coming
This just isn't worth it, it's not cheap enough for what it is, needs to be like MSI Claw A1M pricing from awhile back, like $550
I mean given the fact it's a gimped less popular Aussie version, give it time and it might get there. I think it's a great piece of hardware for the price, especially compared to even the claws atl
Anyone come from a steam deck to one of these?
I found the following review which compares a SD OLED vs the Steam OS version of the Legion Go S. The conclusion is that SD OLED is still the king of low TDP gaming: https://youtu.be/_Yne5yI827w?si=53nLi1TnpoHKnFnY
Oh shit thanks for that. I retract my previous comment and I'll stick with my deck for now
Thanks. I’ve got the og deck which I use from time to time and would t mind a little more power but not enough to take a punt on this.
Problem is that the legion go s can do higher tdp. If you cap it at 15 tdp the optimised games for steam deck will perform better. But that isn't every game anyway.
used to own the legion go
now have the steam deck oled white - this is definitely an upgrade
Sorry youre saying Legion go was better?
the legion go S is a better hardware (console) vs the steam deck
Legion go vs go S… Go is better than Go S
how does this compare to the legion go 1st gen. i got it but never work out how to play games on it… the settings are hard to calibrate.. the controllers and the screen for graphics..
Sold my SD OLED and got the OG LeGo, battery life you can fix with bigger one and powerbank, while the 8.8” screen you can’t swap into SD. Very happy with the jumbo screen on the LeGo.
Settings I tend to go 900p or 1000p in most games, I don’t tinker much with settings. Sometimes I also play with lossless scaling to scale up windowed games like Fortnite etc, works a treat.
Also can’t wait to dual boot Steam OS on my OG, should be stable soon I believe.
so the OG is the one you like? which i have to..,
Correct, in saying that, I’m also keen on trying the LeGo 2’s upcoming controller that is going to be compatible with the OG (thanks Lenovo). But yes love the OG, shit battery life, but hopefully it can be alleviated by having proper SteamOS soon.
@piupiupiu: Can't you just extend the battery life by playing everything at 15tdp like the steam deck?
This is the Z2 Go version, which will be substantially less powerful than the Z1 Extreme in the OG Go/Ally/Ally X.
Hm…. for 680aud it's now starting to get interesting. Quite tempted to get one, install SteamOS and use mainly for indies/steam backlogs🤔
Wtf. They haven’t even dispatch my order on previous one and they drop the price already
Thats what happens on lenovo outlet they will drop price if they dont sell enough for few days .Have been keeping eyes on outlet for long time. They drop price on everything after couple of days
If you bought with your credit card you might be able to be compensated for the price difference.
Why the white body and controller….?
Seems a good price if aware of its limitations.
What limitations are you considering?
Perhaps wrong use of term. By 'limitation' I meant not being able to play for example, AAA titles.
Just like a steam deck
can this handle tekken 8, sv6, cod etc?
Not bad..but no matter how cheap …I can’t forgo my oath and support 16gb ram in these kinds of devices in 2025.. 16gb has been the norm for too long looks at antiquated mid tier gaming laptop from 2010 in room corner
I've had 16 GB of ram in my PC for 4 years now. Running a game with windows uses 70% of my ram so i don't think it'll be much of a bottleneck for a handheld. The GPU and the battery are bigger issues to solve
In case handheld apu share ram for gpu so technical its not 16 gigs ram. I recon 24 or more would be preferable for apu's
I can live with the limitations at this price. Ordered, thanks OP.
The dock is currently $69 delivered from Lenovo.
The dock certainly makes for a compelling package. I hadn’t thought of using it like that.
I'm looking to get a handheld concole of this type with the main use of PS2 emulation, as well as older (Not latest AAA) PC games such as Resident Evil series. Think Steam Deck and EmuDeck might fit the bill pretty well, and this Lenovo Legion Go S might be a cheaper option, with the benefit of larger screen, etc. Should this Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS have the same 3rd party software compatibility as SteamDeck with SteamOS, such as other platform launchers, EmuDeck, etc?
Yes, though tools like emudeck will load deck specific controller mappings etc which you may have to change. No biggie.
But this is a better choice for more demanding emulation vs the deck, since the CPU is a more recent architecture and clocks higher, and the GPU is beefier.
This or second hand SD?
I've heard the Z2 go by default isn't great/not recommended. Z1E is the better one. If you're using steamos ive heard that it's a better experience however that requires a bit of tinkering. If you can get steam OLED it's recommended however obviously a price difference.
So for casual gaming when traveling etc would you get this or the switch? I know it's apples and oranges but still, if you could only have one which would you enjoy the most?
depends on where you have your library and how much you value nintendo exclusives. I don't value nintendo exclusives too highly and don't want to repurchase my extensive steam catalogue. Also if you intend on doing couch multiplayer game nights, the switch is a very user friendly expersience, as compared to getting a dock, quad usb-a dongle and 4 gamesir nova lights.
lol.. I was confused at first but that's pretty funny😂.Thanks!
Popped into my head because I have a switch as well but I think if I had to "choose" ;) one it would the steam deck or the legion go
If you are OK with being limited to Switch 2/Switch 1 games the Switch 2 for the same price is MUCH more powerful than this. This seems to be a great handheld but it's let down by the Z2Go chip.
I have tons of Epic games and Steam game freebies i want to try, with this console ill be able to.
I pick up my switch maybe twice a year, dust it off and browse the over priced eshop for half an hour and then put it down again :D
Sounds like a good buy for you then! You'll get the best experience with older games and indies that aren't too demanding.
@MayhemVC: Yes, looking forward to it :)
I started with c64, then Amiga 500->A1200 and finally PC. I got a few retro consoles too filled with old goodies as well, i guess my retirement will be very busy :D
Suitable as a school BYOD laptop?
Depending if you are looking to improve the grades or not :D
Perfectly capable laptop but considering it doesn't have an ergonomic key board/stand setup and the controllers attached 24/7, I doubt it'll see much work being done on it
How?
Can I run a VM on this or remote my PC with it?
I believe you can dual boot between Windows and Steam OS
It runs windows by default so don't see why you couldn't use windows remote desktop or vnc to do this?
Welp I can't resist at this price
https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/compare_product.html
So the only difference between these two is colour and the black / purple one comes installed with Steam OS?
I can't see anything else from the comparison sheet, i though it had more memory however no it is the same 16Gb.
One has the option to be upgraded to 32GB ram for a extra $300
which is bullshit. I thought 300 would give us z1e but its $300 for ram upgrade only. retail price is joke in Australia
Are they good for anything besides gaming?
If you have a usb-c dock and keyboard you could also use it as a portable pc for basic applications like word etc.
I run the original Lenovo Go as a portable image workstation whenever I need to process 45mp images on location. Works great :) It's surprisingly quick.. quicker than my 3 yr old laptop.
Does the 5% discount new customer sign up work?
I signed up but never got a email
Na, I tried and it said I couldn't use it.
Same
Thanks
Thanks OP. Bought one - price is too good for me because I am only interested in handheld with SteamOS :)
I'm pretty tempted. People say it is like a steam deck, but it is a little smaller and the screen is better (on clearly on the LCD version)
Yes the screen is the main reason why I bought it. The CPU however is less efficient than steam deck according to some reviews. But I don't think the difference is that large.
CPU however is less efficient than steam deck.
This is tricky. I think it is true that the steam deck is more optimised on certain games so it squeezes out slightly better performance at 15 tdp (the highest tdp steam deck can go), however legion go s can do higher tdp so you can somewhat brute force the legion go s to perform better. On a lot of games the legion go s just does slightly better than steam deck @ 15 tdp anyway.
So all in all you can choose to have something comparable to steam deck on battery life and performance, or if you are like me and the use case I would have for these things is that I'd never be that far from a charging cable anyway, I think you'd just go with what can give you the best brute performance (plus apparently it has a great screen and ergonomics for its size.)
Very tempted but part of me says wait till under $600
Then you'll want it under $500
Hahaha I know what you mean
But I think the sweet deal for me is under $600
Apart from a bigger screen, if you want to run Steam OS, why not just go to the LCD version of the Steam Deck? And save a few $$ as well. Get true support. Best device I have ever purchased.
More storage, better resolution, bigger screen, vrr, can exceed the tdp of the steam deck meaning you can get more power if you're plugged in or close to an outlet or having a shorter gaming sesh.
Wouldn't recommend a 64gb LCD deck at RRP over this.
Fair enough. I did get mine 2nd hand for $400, so I am a little biased. Now with a 1TB MicroSD I am rocking.
Yeah got mine at 570 from eBay new, I agree it's a great device. But this allows you to get more performance just at the cost of drawing more power tho

Damn, I'd get one if I thought I'd have it delivered by Tuesday before I go overseas
