Mobile Foxtel Free for 1 Month on iPhone/iPad/Android (Telstra Accounts)

Mobile Foxtel free for 1 month (Telstra Mobile accounts only)

Download the Mobile Foxtel app from Appstore or Android,
choose the "ultimate 1Free" option to get all the mobile channels
free for one month.

Works great with iPhone 5 + LTE. Remember to cancel within the month
if not continuing (easy to do - there is a simple "cancel subscription" button)
to avoid paying a $15 monthly fee.

EDIT: Note it's unmetered on Telstra, so will not clock up your download allowance.

  • +1 finally works on galaxy nexus!

  • Nice freebie. Just downloaded and installed on my iPhone 5. Set a couple of reminders to cancel it in a month.

  • will this work for people without a Foxtel account ?

    • +2

Yes, you don't need to have a Foxtel account.

  • Does anybody know when this promotion ends?

  • So u would need a mobile account with them???

    • +3

Yes you will need to be a Telstra mobile customer but you don't need to be a
      Foxtel customer.

    • +11

      It's unmetered.

  • +1

Does this work for Telstra Prepaid?

  • Prepaid iPad Sim?

  • +12

12.2 In addition, there is a viewing limit of 200 minutes per month for Mobile Foxtel from Telstra. Once you reach the 200 minutes viewing limit, we may ask you, by SMS or any other means, to moderate your usage. If, after we have asked you to moderate your usage, you (in our reasonable opinion) fail to do so, we may terminate your viewing session and cancel this Agreement. If you do not reach the 200 minutes viewing limit in any month, you cannot carry forward any unused minutes to the next (or any other) month.

    • +7

12.3 If you view a single channel on Mobile Foxtel from Telstra for more than 30 minutes at a time, we may terminate your viewing session and, if you want to view that channel again, you will have to start a new viewing session. Depending on network capacity, a maximum of 15 minutes per viewing session may apply.

Just as I was thinking this is a good deal, that is a load of crap. Thanks for pointing it out, I'm sure many people will have skipped the terms and conditions.

      • As I don't use the service, I'm not sure how strict they are with those terms thou.

        • My experiences with phone company's (although I've never had to deal with Telstra) are that they will lie, mislead and screw you at any opportunity so I don't see why this would be any different.

I would hope that with Telstra being the most expensive and biggest name in telecom in Australia they would be a bit better than Vfail or Optus though.

        • +4

My experiences with Telstra - shared by millions - is that "being the most expensive and biggest name in telecom in Australia" they rip you off as much as they can get away with … fortunately their rip offs have been under public scrutiny by the govt in recent years so they are a LITTLE less blatant now.

… Telstra are saying "ideally, we would like you to perpetually pay for Foxtel (which they half own) but never use it".

pps Foxtel, being 50% owned by Telstra, and being a monopoly, are guilty of some of the worst practices of Telstra.

… who other than Telstra would try to charge you $15 monthly for up to 3hrs 20 mins a month/15 mins a session!!

… and, in character, they were still advertising Foxtel on Alan Jones yesterday.

    • +1

And in all their brilliance, they dont allow viewing of foxtel via wifi/internet, only 3G.

Telstra, embrace full ipTV, not this piss poor effort, that we expect from backyarders, this is a giant
corporate, and we expect google style effort in the backend.

      • It's likely their only way of ensuring that only Telstra customers are capable of using the service.

  • Great deal but a side note, when pre paying weekly is equal to a plan then why not just pre pay as you go so if it's not used for a week then you save a bit of cash.

I also wish proper foxtel was this price.

    • +1

I also wish proper foxtel was this price.

connect your iphone to your TV ?

      • +5

So I'm allowed to watch 6 minutes and 40 seconds of foxtel per day?

  • does it work as unmetered if you have home broadband and use this app through wifi?

    • No.

    • I subscribed to the AFL pack through my mobile and when I'm at home and watch a game on my phone, it tells me to turn off wifi. I think they do that to verify you're on Telstra?

  • +1

At last a good use of my prepaid sim from Telstra that came FREE with $49 LG Optimus from Coles. :)

    • That LG is great, the camera is on par to iphone, top stuff.
Make sure you applied the recent update that improoves battery life.

Any unlock hacks for this yet?

  • +1

Alas they still don't include the proper sports channels (Fox Sports 1, 2, 3; ESPN), so the only way to watch European football is to pay for their regular sports packages… :(

    • I signed up for fox epl on demand. You can stream games from there. But their schedule has been pretty crap recently.

      • Only a few though, right?

        • +1

          Search "first row sports".

      • +1

        Use myp2p.mu

  • Also because it does not work over wifi, it means you cannot Airplay it on your ATV, which would've been a cool feature!

  • Seems unclear if the so-called 'Ultimate' pack really includes 35 mobile channels, because the way it is bracketed it appears to have just 14 channels, no news coverage not even sky news AUS.

But IIRC, I sampled this content pack about a year ago after buying Smart Touch on Prepaid Telstra, only it would have included most all the channels then. However, those channels were not true schedule and simply iterative loops of what one might expect on foxtel cabled.

Furthermore, and while unfortunate, the IQ appeared to be a wishy washy 240p concept matching what you get of the lowest quality youTube picture, about =1Mbit/s one would estimate. The audio is no improvement, that is about 48kbit/s(mono?)… so to me, overall it's pretty junk- at least in mobiles space.

  • Wi-fi only ipad = Grrrrr

    • tether to a telstra phone. should still work.

      • +1

You can't, I've tried it with the AFL app.
If I tether the ipad to my Telstra phone, then the ipad is essentially connected via wifi.
Then the app will tell you to turn off wifi before it will work.

        • Tried it tethered to the phone with Bluetooth instead?

  • When I wanted to get the AFL app , Telstra said I could use my own wifi which turned out you couldn't. They told me I need a new sim every month. I told them I was told otherwise so they gave me $1 credit on my my sim that dosn't expire for 12 months. I have been watching AFL footy on my ipad all year for just $50. Not too bad.

  • Hrrrm doesnt seem to be working for me here. Getting error message:
Your subscription process could not be processed due to a technical issue. Please try again later.

    Anyone else getting this error?

  • Thanks OP, I will check this out! Hopefully the National Geographic channel is showing actual shows now, and not just 5 minute clips from shows, like it used to. >_<

Edit: "This service is temporarily unavailable due to a technical issue. Please try again later.." (Samsung Galaxy S III)

  • +1

After subscribing, you can immediately cancel your subscription and still retain the expiry date of 1 month. I just did it.

    • Just subscribed then canceled the subscription (Ability to use till November still though). Never had to give them credit card information so am unsure of what would happen when subscription is over whether they would charge directly to your mobile account or ask for CC info.

      • You would have recieved a charge on your bill for the amount, hence why it's Telstra customers only.

  • Doesnt work for Galaxy Nexus S with Jelly Bean 4.1.1

    I cant find "Mobile Foxtel"

    • I have a feeling that the app is not working on my Galaxy S III because it is running Jelly Bean, I can however download the app from the Play Store.

      • Not working for me on my note either. Running Jelly Bean and rooted, can anyone else confirm if they are rooted and/or running JB. Just get error, service unavailable

EDIT: Never mind just usual Telstra crap. They block any phone not purchased through them. If you're comfortable editing your build.prop you can change the ro.product.model to the matching telstra model. In my case with the note GT-N7000 -> GT-N7000B and reboot.

If you don't know what a build.prop is then i wouldn't recommend this as you can screw up your phone.

  • Just tried it, its rubbish. Says one show is on, load the channel and something completely different is on. Isn't true widescreen, if there is a widescreen program on, it displays it with both black bars on bottom and top so doesn't even fill most of the screen.

  • Thanks OP. Just signed up. Works fine on my and my wifes iP5. No buffering. Just set myself reminders to cancel next month.

  • +1

Thanks OP just signed up with my brand new Galaxy S3 4G and it worked like a charm but seriously they got to fix that guide.

Edit: I was on Full bars 3G+ this was the quality I received http://imgur.com/a/kxQX2

  • +1

Great way to clog up a great network, nice one Telstra I look forward to more 'optus like' coverage in my morning commute…

  • If you're paying for it, why limit it to Telstra only?

I'd be happy to pay and use via my wifi with no limit.

  • Just set a reminder to activate before I go camping in late Dec 12 / Jan 13.
    Perfect for afternoon snoooze time!

  • How will they start charging pre-paid users the $3.75pw after 30 days free? Can they charge via the Apple account? Or just start pinching some credit?

  • I'm with virgin, can I watch anything like this? I wanna out my 4G data to use too.

  • +1

PM me for the secret link to the apk.

  • Would it also be un-metered on a 12 month pre-paid Telstra sim on our iPad ?

Or is unmetered for post paid Telstra customers only?

    • should be unmetered for everyone on telstra. even broadband dongle customers.

  • Error. This service is temporarily unavailable.

Anyone have a fix for this? Been getting it for months. Tried Telstra, but they were unable to offer any help. Samsung Galaxy SII

  • I've played video clips on this for 3 hours every night for the last 5 nights or so, and haven't had any message from Telstra. I wonder if they will enforce the limit of 200 minutes per month!?!

  • anyone tried this on ipad 3g/4g? does it work?

    • It does a great job bringing the network to a standstill in peak places like a crowded train, I know that much!

    • Yes, Telstra "new" iPad works perfectly in South Brisbane. No such thing as 4G iPad.

  • ANyone else have provblems getting this to work with the Motorola Xoom?

  • Quick reminder to people who signed up a month ago, coming up to time to cancel :)

Personally I think I used it twice.

  • Yeah, thanks, I cancelled mine today, a real waste of time, couldn't even watch a half hour show without interruption

  • Not sure if this is by design or accident but I re-subscribed the day after cancelling and I'm getting another free month :)
