      SEA eSIM only has coverage for HK and Macau (as well as the Thailand).

      You would need the Asia 12 if you want it to work in Japan as well.

      Taiwan requires a specific eSIM due to a recent change in their government regulation we are unable to combine them into our Asia 12 SIMs

      Spot on! You can add the Japan eSIM before hand and it will only "activate" the plan when you are in Japan.

        Just to clarify Japan IIJ eSIM will start as soon as you scan the QR code.

        The normal Japan eSIM and Japan Saver eSIM won't start until it connects in Japan.

          I purchased the standard Japan esim and added it to my iPhone now based on your comment above. Even though I’m not travelling until February. It appears to already have activated though and seems to be roaming on Telstra?? Now I’m worried that my sim and plan are already active when I don’t want them to be until February? Only did it now so that I didn’t even have to think about it in February and purely based on your comment above. Can you advise what the go is?

          I don’t have data roaming turned on for Japan eSIM and it doesn’t appear to have assigned it a phone number. So perhaps it’s ok? Even though it’s coming up as connected to Telstra and 5 bars on the phone.

            @dwhes: If you buy our Japan eSIM please do not worry it will not start the plan until you reach Japan. Simply turn the eSIM off until you reach Japan.

            Only IIJ eSIM will start as soon as you scan.

    When is the point where the sim card is activated? I'm looking at purchasing a south korea one for an upcoming holiday in Janurary. Is the point of activation once the esim is added into the phone? or is it once data has been used in the country?

    Last time i bought a esim card from Airalo, i pre installed it and it only activated and started counting down the days once i enabled it and started using it in Korea. Hoping your simcard is the same :)

    When locals call you on your travelkon number, do they incur international rates? For example your europe sim covers europe and asia. If i'm in vietnam and a local friend calls me, will they be faced with a huge bill?

    And how about if you have a travelling partner. They also get the sim. Can they call you if you are in the same country and is that included in the "unlimited local calls and text" coverage

          This SIM comes with a UK phone number - so your "local" Vietnam (or any where else other than Europe) friend will need do an international call to the UK in order to call your UK number. If their plan allows international call then yes they will be charged.

          This SIM can only call within Europe and UK only (local call only)

    Is there a point to getting any of the non saver Sims (looking at Japan specifically end of Jan)? 10gb 30 days after the discount is $27 but 180 days/September 2024 activation while the esaver non discounted is $22 so it's cheaper even without the promo.           We already outlined the difference in the post - it has 30 days validity instead of 180 days and specifically tailored for everyday use (Maps, Browsing, Social Media) and not so much for downloading heavy/large files and streaming 4K videos.

          The non-saver eSIM has longer validity and can handle heavy tasks better than the saver eSIM.

    These guys are nice, I've had little issues with them, but NOTE:

    When you put in their SIM cards, some Chinese app gets automatically installed. NO idea what it does, and the online live chat (Whatsapp) isn't very friendly / helpful either, and doesn't seem to be a native English speaker.

    (Also for South Korea at least, I have found that you can find BETTER and CHEAPER value by pre-buying to pick up the WIFI 'egg' at the airport.)

      Our Asia SIMs' provider are by CHT (Taiwan), in Android phones the "Chinese app" you are talking about is just the SIM profile settings - this is just how Android phone does it. For example on an iPhone the SIM profile settings appears under "settings" and not as an "app" -> the SIM profile settings is important if we need you to reset the SIM.

      Buying a local SIM especially in Asia can definitely be cheaper, what we offer is convenience for people who like to be connected as soon as they land.

What I mean about that is just basic courtesy… like hello, thank you etc. They left me hanging as soon as they have given you an answer, even after you acknowledge them with a 'thanks'. Picky, but i've grown acusomed to other places where they respond back instead of ghosting, with responses like, "No worries" or "If there's anything else I can do, let me know, thanks for using TravelKon" or even 'bye' etc. - those are my official ozbargainer tips for your consideration :D

        (As for the Chinese app thing, I"ve been with many different providers in Australia but they've never installed any app. I'm an Android user. Just feels a bit sus)

          With the "Chinese app" I guess that's just how they are displayed in Android phones remembering the SIMs are made specifically for travelling. So without being too technical, this means the SIM can be loaded with different plan and you may need to go into the SIM settings to do a reboot or reset. With "local" sims such as optus/voda/telstra or even our Europe ones there is no need to do a SIM reset as these are managed by the telco (not by third party).

      Please understand our SIM does not install any app - these are just how Android displayed the SIM settings. So instead of burying it under "Settings" an app icon appears on the Android phone. iPhone users can access the SIM settings under the actual "settings" app.

      Saver eSIM has to be activated within 30 days as opposed to 180 days. It is also tailored for essential take such as Maps, Browsing and Social Media. Importantly, you still get 4G speeds.

      IIJ is another provider for Japan it is the "MNVO" of docomo.

    Prices are decent after discount but still find esims from lazada slightly cheaper. E.g 10gb/15 day sim card from travelkon is $39 base price or $27.30 after discount.

    I had the CHT one last year - but this time it looks like the CHT one is $10 more than the local SIM so I was wondering if the $10 difference is worth it…

      Correct the IIJ Docomo is a local SIM but only has 1 network (IIJ Docomo) - with potentially manual APN input required.

      If you are travelling to main city centre the IIJ eSIM is more than enough.

    I'm currently using the World Explorer 365 from a previous deal in India, but I notice now that India is not included in any of your plans. Have sim policies changed in India? I was hoping to purchase another World Explorer. Thanks.

      Our website contain the most up to date information - unfortunately India has been removed for the list of countries for this particular SIM.

    I am travelling US coming Apr for 21 days.
    Please advise best SIM card.
    I will need cellular data switching on to receive my work calls while overseas through wifi calling.
    Can you please confirm if your esim or physical sim works fine for wifi calling?
    I was in Thailand, Nepal and it worked perfectly when used local sim.
    But in Japan, esim from Airlao did not work for wifi calling.

    Please advise.

      Wi-Fi calling is something you have to ask your Australian carrier, as far as we understand as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi you will be able to make/receive call from your Aussie SIM.

      As for the USA SIM - if you are looking for physical SIM we currently offer the T-Mobile SIM which has unlimited data :)
