  • Is this hard to drive as a monitor? I.e do you need a 4090 since this is 4k? I am thinking about the pissible additional costs between this and the aw3423dwf

    • +4

with DLSS, even 4070 can run 4K. Not 120 hz at most demanding game, but do able at most game.

If you want to push 4K120 all the time, then even 4090 can't do it ALL THE TIME.

I would say if you have a 4070+ GPU then go for it. Otherwise better stick with 2k or 2.5k

I am planning to get 42 C3, and i use 4070TI for now. (hopefully get 5080 or something later)

    • +1

      What jenesis33 said.

Also, you can specify custom resolutions and then effectively run this at the same ultrawide resolution as the AW2423DWF for games where you just can't do 4K.
I have an AMD GPU, so DLSS isn't available to me and FSR isn't quite as good, so for some games like Cyberpunk and Alan Wake I will probably run as ultrawide. Others like BG3 I will do full 4K.

When things get really bad, you can always just use integer scaling.

That said, in my opinion for native 4K max settings in all the games released in the next two years you will need a 4090, and even then it won't be enough. I mostly wait for sales, so mostly play games that are 3+ years old.

    • +1

Even the 4090 can't run some modern games at 4K 120Hz. I'm running a modest 6700 XT (equivalent to a 4060 Ti or 3060 Ti) and can achieve 4K at 60-120fps quite easily. Usually, I'll just play on medium settings and enable FSR. Sure, it won't look as good visually to ultra settings and native 4K but you're still getting above 60fps with HDR and the TV outputting a 4K image. The 4070 or 7800 XT will be able to achieve 4k 120Hz quite easily with DLSS/FSR in all but the most demanding games.

Hey guys, I've never used TCN cards. Do you buy them at Coles in store and then just take them to Good Guys/JB hifi?
I saw there's different types of TCN cards. (Teens, Kids, Home, etc).
Which one should I get to buy a TV JB hifi and Good Guys? Or is there no difference and they can all be used?

    TIA

  • +2

do we know pricing for 48/55 as well?

  • -1

I love OLED, the image is fantastic. I have had the C7 for 6 years now and it is a dream to own…except…….Burn in.

I hate to say it but here it is….

We do not have game consoles and all we do is watch TV, Youtube or Netflix. We have the screensaver on and refresh pixels, I look after my stuff. However the Netflix App specifically has a bright red "NETFLIX" logo which just sits in one place when searching for shows. If you are a Netflix user you may know how long you might sit there searching/browsing all the shows on offer and this alone has caused burn in. So when I get more red backgrounds I can see a burnt in Netflix logo along with a line and I am not the only one, may LG OLED owners have the same thing and there is nothing I can do about it. I tried to refresh pixels using LG inbuilt function, no change. I tried running pixel refresher from youtube which goes through all colours for a few hours, no change. This is not temporary, this is burnt in.

So if you are going to get an OLED please be very aware that even if you are careful you can get tripped up.

    • +2

Someone forgot to make the screen saver come on after a short period of time.

C9's and after don't have the same burn in rates.

      • +2

I mentioned in my text above that I always have the screensaver on. It isn't that. What it is if you even spend 10 mins browsing Netflix over a few years this accumulates and does burn in, it is not retention. I have also seen C9 users complain about the same thing. Also Burn in Tech has not changed that much at all and is still a risk. Buyer beware.

    • +2

OLED tech has evolved a lot since you bought your unit 6 years ago. I don't think burn-ins are that common these days.

      • BTW that is what I was lead to believe when I bought the C7. Everything I read stated that OLED had come a long way and the risk was low. Well I am a fool.

      • No it hasn’t. There hasn’t been any real changes to the subpixel layout since the C8, where they increased the size of the red subpixel to combat burn in.

While there have been small improvements to the software since then, rates of burn in will be pretty similar anyway

    • +2
      1. Burn in prevention measures have greatly improved since the C7.
      2. 6 years is a long time.
      • -2

6 years is a long time.

I wouldn’t call it a “long time” for a $3k+ TV, especially when it hasn’t even been used for gaming.

    • My 42” C2 is set to move the screen every few hours.

    • I know someone who got an oled. Accidentally grabbed the screen for some reason when unpacking. Trashed the whole screen. Apparently touching the screen is a big no no. Not worth the risk. Heard the top end leds are pretty much as good - different pros and cons.

Geez I'm just sticking with my $500 tcl. Still way better than the crts we grew up with. Even has decent enough sound. People get all horny over paying big bucks for high end tech. 5x the price isn't 5x the quality. And would rather spend the money on experiencing the world in all its glory before we finish trashing it personally.

      • You can't touch the screen?? How are you supposed to dust it?

  • This LG OLED or Sony OLED?

I guess this as it's available at a good price!

    • Sony is a better TV but you will pay for it. If money means nothing get it. If not get this and be 95% as good.

    • LG OLED if you're mainly using it for gaming, Sony if you're mainly using it for watching TV or content consumption/streaming video.

    • +1

LG for me. We watch stuff off USB and LG plays everything you throw at it and am unsure about the Sony as they have had poor file compatibility previously.

  • Is there any TCN or Ultimate Giftcard offer currently available to use with the TV deals?

  • +1

Thanks OP will likely grab the TCL 65". Can anyone comment on JB's install/wall mounting service? Is it better to just go via airtaskr?

    • Depends on your risk appetite.

  • +1

Any news on if the C3 48" is included in the sale?

  • Not sure if I wanna wait for next year's OLEDs, buy the DWF or this C3. too many choices :(

    • I’m the same. Trying to think of any benefits to next years OLEDs over this years also. Choices really hold me back also!

      • +1

tbh I'm leaning more towards the dwf. Never tried 21:9 but it seems like it'd be nice. I know that the new OLEDS will be priced $2000 + so I'm thinking I'll buy the DWF and use it until 4k 240hz prices come down. The only thing holding me back is that it seems like a waste to use 1440p with 4090.

      • Wait for next year. Hopefully by then the brightness features they added to the G3 range only will be across the entire range.

        • I agree, but I’m still tempted haha. Might depend how low the G3 price drops Black Friday and my patience!

  • Can you use a Sandisk E30 as external storage with an Xbox Series S?

  • is that LG OLED C3: 42" good for gaming and use as computer monitor ?

    • +5

It's the best of the best for gaming. As a computer monitor it's less so. It has serious text clarity issues due to the layout of the pixels, although there is less burn-in risk compared to other OLED monitors. It also has an aggressive backlight and poor 100% screen brightness which makes it fairly average for general computer use. I personally could not give up my IPS monitor for computer use but when it comes to gaming it blows everything away with its instant pixel response, true blacks, superb HDR, low input latency and there's no need to opt for the monitor-centric OLED displays (unless you want ultra wide) because LG has a PC mode built into the display.

      • +2

It also has an aggressive backlight

How does an OLED TV have backlight?

    • +1

I initially spent time to get the text decent on Mac mini.

There are guides on the internet.

  • i so wanted to get either this or the Samsung S90c but my wall panel needs cables passed through so its heaps easier with one connect box which only Samsung high end models offer….bring on the S95c Black Friday deal

    • also looking out for S95C 77"…see you there!

  • +3

    42 C2 was <$1000………..waiting 42 C3 for it.

    • +1

The Good Guys could come through if there's a 15-20% coupon on ebay.

      • They came through but it's still ~$1250

    • +1

same. Still not biting on the C3 till it goes lower than this.

  • is C3 TV for a gamer? it's so expensive compared to a normal LED TV.

    • C3 is OLED.

    • OLEDs are the best TV for gamers.

Blinding HDR, lightning fast response, deep blacks.

      • thanks for knowledge sharing.

  • Anyone know if c3 42 good for pc editing(photoshop, davinci and premiere)?
Also how long will the promo last?

    • You’ll probably get static UI burned into the screen after a few years if you primarily use it for work purposes

      • Thanks.looks like search back to IPS I guess

  • +2

Pro tip - Better to hide the gift cards behind the mens incontinence pads products 😉

    • +2

I found some hidden there last time I was buying pads

  • LG OLED C3 42" or TCL C845 65"?

Not a huge living room, probably 2m away from the screen.

    • I’d go 65” as I think 42” is too small. There appears to be a 55” TCL model which might be a good middle ground but if you’re at 2m distance.

    • I had both, (although the C845 in 85”). For that sitting distance definitely the C845. If it’s around 1m go for the C3

  • how are people planning to use the TCN gift cards for high value purchases?

I want to get the TCL 85" C845 which costs $2688.

There is Limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer. And maximum a gift card can have is $100. I have to get around 25 gift cards. So grab 5 family members and we all get 5 cards each. Seems a lot of hassle.

    • Pretty much. Then you have to ask the JB employee to do 25 eftpos transactions.

      • Yea I am not using TCN for big purchases.

        • as said by someone above, if you are BUPA member, you can get 500 dollar gift card for JB for 5% off, better than nothing

But you can wait for ebay sale from Powerland/Good guys which might even beat this JB price, so it will be close to JB+TCN price.

          • @jenesis33: 10% cashback from cash-rewards for TGG is better . The price of the tv is same in TGG.

            • @dudebargain: that ends in 9 hour. wait and see if we will still have something similar for BF

  • Pull the trigger or wait for Black Friday? Any history of prices dropping more

    • +1

you can't buy this now? you have to wait till 20th Nov, which is like 2 days from BF deals.

I would wait till 22nd for sure. Last year for C2 deal, Ebay had numerous deal beating the JB price.

You can use C2 last year as a guideline. BF will be cheapest price we have seen, then next year March will be even cheaper bec of stock clearance for C4 releasing.

  • is the LG OLED 42" good as a computer monitor? text, word, spreadsheet, web browsing, productivity/office?

    • Perfect after tweaking some settings.

    • +1

No, it has a lot of usable space but the dimming, very glossy screen and guarantee of burn in for those tasks make it a bad option

    • Anything over 27" for a PC monitor is just to big

      • Depends on use. I use the 42" for my pc and its amazing for games but white screens are a little overwhelming, they feel more managable when snapping to half screen

  • +1

Anecdotal but the LG OLED I bought in November 2022 got even cheaper by December 2022.

There might be a little more to be saved…

  • C3 77inch is $4688 dam it was $4396 in July that's $292 more. I'll be taking this information to Harvey Norman JB Good guys and Westcost hifi and asking for between $4000 and $4500 and see who really wants my sale

    • May I ask where do you see C3 77inch at $4688. I am looking for 77 and couldn't find any deal on this yet

      • +1

I tried refreshing the page and it's no longer available. Dammit. It was page 4 in the middle

        • Ohh!! Thanks mate. I can keep an eye on. Hope they add it again when the BF deal goes live :)

  • Harvey Norman have the B3 65" for $2,488 - is this C3 worth the extra $400?

  • Not sure why everyone discounts the TCL. Great picture size and pricing and warranty is long as well. To many brand whores these days. I mean who buys 42 inch TVs anyway. That's so noughties era. I have a awesome TCL 75 and couldn't imagine going smaller.

    • +1

The TCL C845 is the best non OLED TV you can get south of $2500 for the 65" ($1,444)*

*My opinion, not fact. Based on lots of research, max brightness, dimming zones, tech, google play, 144hz, VRR etc

  • Would love to see the 48" go down in price.

  • TCL C845 for $1344 already
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/155676225645

Expact ebay to roll in 15% discount sitewite for BF, followed with 5-10% off using ebay Celebration Gift card and then Westpac cashback potentially using shopback
$1250 or so for 65" C845 will be the deal to bite at

  • -1

Can you still negotiate in JB store if a product is on sale?

  • +2

So, I contacted TGG and they had agreed to sell the 65C845 for $1358,- which was the $1445,- minus the 6% cashback from CashRewards.
No postage, as I'll pick the TV up myself.

Just before I left home, I checked Ebay once more and saw the 65C845 for $1299,- (local pick up) with the $100,- ebay discount.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404630116374

I asked the sales person at TGG, if they could match that $1299,- and they did.

    That's good enough for me.

    • That's excellent work!

  • +2
  • Think price can go further down on black Friday?

  • Sale is live for Perks members.

The 65' is cheaper at HV for $2787, if you wanna go down with good old Gerry

  • +1

LG C3 65" is $2785 at JB now just FYI. They updated the price sometime in the last couple of hours.

  • JB have dropped their price to $1345 now. Just picked up mine today, paid with ShopBack gift cards for an extra 3%.

  • I went the 65" C3; price matched Appliance Central.
Initially, I went the 55" as that's what I owned previously, but based on recommendations, going a size up with 4K makes for a better experience.

  • +1

I’m actually very surprised Ozbargain users didn’t jump on LG’s Spin and Win promotion. 20-40% coupons were common and stack with their current Black Friday pricing.

    • I couldn’t get it to work since my account had a VIP badge

    • This worked for me - 30% off on the OLED55C3 made it $1609 delivered - as big as fits the wall spot its going to.

  • does anyone know a good usb hub for wfh with the C3? I just want to plug in my work laptop and have it work with the C3 - otherwise have it work with my desktop which is connected to the C3.

    • I don't use it with the C3, but have a Dell WD19TB which is great.
It doesn't have HDMI 2.1, so you might want to see if a newer version (like WD22TB) has it.

It's not really a hub, more of a dock.

    • Im using the ugreen hub for switching keyboard and mouse, use the TV remote to quick switch between two hdmi inputs.

  • Does anyone know if i can use jb trade in phone credit to buy a tv?

  • Thanks got 42" C3, and loving it.
