Note this is the original. The upgraded version is smaller and better value at $70

    • How is it better value if youre paying more for the same specs?

It's significantly smaller, thanks to updated battery chemistry. (It's a density improvement, but longevity of the cells is not expected to be any different though.)

I have both and like them. People here have had very mixed experiences, and the older model had some major QC issues that mostly seemed to be about a cell failing, and causing high internal discharge rates (as did many power banks due to Covid supply chain issues).

I have not seen the same for the new one, but it may be too early to tell. It being new battery chemistry hopefully means more focus on avoiding such issues.

For this price, I think both are great buys (and I have both). I favour the new model.

They are quite efficient, and 65W passthrough charging is very handy. And there are very few power banks in this form factor. My older model one has been used a lot with no signs of issues or degradation.

Key downside is heat at high output - they can't maintain 100W output for the entire capacity and shut off after about 30%. However for normal laptop charge rates (which has a higher peak, but lower overall average) they are fine.

        • I'm in the market for both a power bank and a 4 port GaN charger. Is it a good idea to buy this for both purposes? Does the pass-through charging affect the battery?

New one (called Blade HD) is about 2cm shorter. Square shaped vs rectangle for the original

There is also a Blade 2 140w USB 3.1 version but cannot be purchased in Australia get. Also expected to be significantly more expensive (probably double of Blade HD)

  • Don't buy.. Worst purchase of mine.

I bought it a few months ago and have real mixed feelings about this one

I have 2 and they’re the best powerbanks I’ve used for charging my laptops at 100W

      What was the issue?

    • I've had the upgraded version for less than a month. Wife really likes the form factor can put into a bag etc.

I also have the Anker 737 which I think is a better charger (at double the price) but it is brick shaped..

    • I conquer. It was great at the start then sudden fully discharge after a full charge. Its been a hit and miss.

  • It doesn’t pass through charge for me.

    • Does this mean you can charge the powerbank and devices at the same time?

    • One thing to check - it needs higher input wattage than output when doing pass through, and is limited to 65W.

In my experience, it is very strict on chargers and cables, and will not enter pass through charging unless they are suitable. Even then, I have found that occasionally the negotiation does not go as expected and it won't do pass through until you try again.

Make sure the cables used for passthrough have eMarkers - as far I as can tell, it won't do PD output otherwise (and my emarker cables are all 100W or higher). While the input is only 65W, I have found that using a 100W input is better, as lower wattage seems to more easily cause it to not allow pass through.

It usually does not matter which one you plug in first, but if it doesn't enter passthrough, I found plugging in the laptop first, the the charger helps negotiation.

This all makes it seem very finicky, but with a decent charger and quality cables, it works perfectly 99% of the time. And it being strict about the chargers and cables is not a bad thing, as it making sure to protect itself.

      • Interestingly I see a YouTube review that mentions 30W pass through. I didn't actually check what the max possible was, or monitor exactly what max wattage the laptop negotiated. So I will have to test this and see what the max is it will negotiate for pass through.

  • Can these be used to charge a MS surface laptop?

(Not the tablet but the laptop)

    • +1

      yes.. if it's laptop 4.

I think it should be ok if you have the usb c to surface connector too.

  • Sorry if dumb question…is this able to charge a Macbook Pro with the following specs from 0% to 100%?

    Battery and Power
Up to 10 hours wireless web
Up to 10 hours iTunes movie playback
Up to 30 days of standby time
    Built-in 76.0-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery
    87W USB-C Power Adapter

    • Probably not to 100%, more like 70%

    • +1

No. The Blade has a 74Wh battery, and you get around 15 - 20% efficiency losses in both the power bank, and the laptop.

Depending on exact efficiency loss, will charge the Macbook from zero to around 55% at the low end, to 70% at the high end.

This is normal for power banks. You would likely need a 27,000 mAh (99Wh) power bank to fully charge it.

    • Thanks @antik & @Prong
