Worst use of your points. Qantas points should only be used for flying. Unless you never fly, it will not matter. Eg, Sydney to Melbourne return on Jetstar will cost you 13k points. So you could take 8 people on that trip with 100k points. Sydney to Singapore return costs 50k return on Qantas. You could take one person to Singapore and back with 100k points. Of course there’s tax involved in points booking as well. But if used anything other than flying, points devalue exponentially.

        • Only if you fly a lot! I don't.

          • +1

@revivor: Not a lot. If you fly even once a year, you could plan ahead and get business tickets in advance . But its preferences I guess. Btw this is defo not a deal I think.

@unhuman: Everyone to their own benefit. I needed to buy some whitegoods for the home and cannot afford forking out my hard earned cash for it!

            • +1

@unhuman: This is so dumb… "I have all these points so instead of using them to buy something I want I will waste them to sit in a bigger seat for a few hours. All in the name of efficiency."

              • @Stivo: Not sure what you meant. I gave details on both business and economy. Not sure how that is dumb. Most credit cards with high enough points charges you close to 400 dollars a year for signing up. Plus you take a hit on your credit reports. That defo is not worth 200 dollars extra on gift card in my opinion.

              • @Stivo: I definitely agree with this sentiment … I fly a lot for work and get to travel in business class and yes it is nicer than flying economy but would I pay the advertised prices using my own money … not a chance! Personal opinion of course but I say always take any of those comparison graphs with a pinch of salt as "value" is very subjective.

I don't see the value of using points for upgrades when I already get more than half of what I consider valuable by using airline status (lounges, extra baggage allowance, premium seat selection). I use points for domestic trips with the family but I find that for international flights you normally have to compromise travel dates, still have to pay taxes and don't accrue new points. Only on a handful of occasions has that worked out for me once you crunch the numbers and take into account the inconvenience factor.

Even more crazy is sitting on a mountain of points and spending cash instead while waiting a rara avis classic reward flight to appear, which even as a platinum member are hard to find. Unless you enjoy feeling like a modern day pirate burying your treasure, just find a reasonable deal and spend the points on things on things you like!

My theory is to keep an eye on what you want in Qantas marketplace and if you are getting more than 1c per point after discounts, it is actually a pretty good deal (unless you are someone who would spend money on premium seats). Worth noting here that the 20% stacks with the 5/10% Points Club discount and the extra 10% thank you code floating around so at ~35% off base rates, there are a few bargains imho.

        • This only applys if you like not getting to pick the dates you go on holiday. Not worth it.

Flights are definitely the best way to use QFF points but you need to be prepared to be disrupted on your trip.

Had a pretty bad experience using Qantas FF on a classic rewards business flight a few weeks ago.

Was initially on a HKG to SYD direct flight and then got bumped one week before departure to HKG to MEL and MEL to SYD transit as they downsized the aircraft from A380 to A330.

The HKG to MEL was then delayed from 1930 to 2100 on the day. So a 10 hour trip turned into 18 hours.

On arrival from MEL to SYD, they lost my luggage and I had to lodge a delayed baggage claim.

The classic rewards business seat cost me around 140K points, and it was being sold for around $6K in cash.

Just need to be prepared to have your flight routes changed last minute, delays etc

        • Agreed, I just buy flights for family using points and take their cash.

      $0 for digital gift cards

      • -2

they are selling wish cards (not the woolworths but it works at woolworths) as digital but it is costing 54,500 points for $250 value and now if you had woolworths points converted to qantas then it means you need 109,100 woolworths points but at that point woolworth gives you credit worth $540.55 so why on earth use qantas point ?

qantas points is a rip off !!!

        • -1

why on earth convert woolworth point to qantas point ?

woolworth point to qantas point conversion is a rip off !!!

          • @SocietyBox: the example is to show value of qantas point is deteriorated significantly…. !!! nothing else… !!!!

          • @SocietyBox: To prevent them being easily stolen.

Although converting from woolworth points to qantas just to buy back as woolworth giftcards is a fairly weird way of using them too.

    • I assume registed post? but I wouldnt buy physical gift cards, don't trust auspost.

      • Well different experience for everyone I guess. I got mine delivered with no issues on all occasions (touch wood).

$600 worth of gift cards using just 100k FF points

Holy shit, please don't do this, ever. please.

The value of redeeming flights using points would be much much higher. 100k QFF should equal at least $1.2k in flight value.

  • Any one actually able to check out? When trying to enter my address (automatically or manually) I get the following error:
