SEGA Astro City Mini V (Mini Plug n Play Arcade) Mini Console with 22 Build-in Games

All time lowest price (I think).

Note that this is the VERTICAL screen version, it has a different set of games to the original version.

You also need a strong power supply - it runs run from basic USB power (not PD) but if there's not enough current on offer then you'll see lag. Use a 3A USB C power supply for example.

Includes a total of 22 titles, including the first porting.
Many shooting arcade games in the past used to be on a vertical screen—a 4.6-inch vertical LCD screen to fully recreate the vertical screen specifications. The game line-up included is centred on vertical scrolling shooters that use this feature. And you can enjoy many masterpieces, including the quarter-view 3D shooter ZAXXON (SEGA) and many other shooting games from the legendary TOAPLAN, with games like Truxton 1 & 2, Fireshark, Outzone, Batsugun and many more, which were big hits in the arcades!
Realistic and carefully designed, faithfully to the original cabinet. The Astro City Mini V features illumination reminiscent of real arcade machines. The control buttons are small but made from the same material as the original Astro City machine. The joystick has also been faithfully reproduced in its basic design. It allows you to once again experience the excitement of the game in your hands.

  • Pretty sure power supply doesn’t cause in game lag

Yeah, i'm not sure about the power supply claim, but this device does has terrible lag even for casual play.

As a desktop ornament, it's killer. As a functional gaming device, it's dreadful.

There are various threads about the power supply significantly helping the lag scenario.

Read them if you're looking to buy one of these.

    That's a terrible deal.

What’s the point if this device if it’s not portable? Playing on a cramped little screen hooked up to power for almost $300. That doesn’t seem like a deal to me when there are cheaper alternatives to play these games eg emulators.

Because this is a minature candy cab shaped piece of Japanese collectible nonsense. Probably a different market. The Japanese buy heaps of this rubbish.

The Egret 2 was actually pretty cool (if fundamentally also rubbish in the same way).

Literally you can just plug in a Powerbank, geez use your brain.

People looking for "portable" aren't going to be looking for an arcade experience. This is what you'd called an ornament that doubles as a miniature collectible. No different to people buying RC cars.

No need to gatekeep if its for you then its for you and clearly there are fans of these things.

It needs to be at least 3 times bigger than this

  • Can anyone suggest a game device with this form factor that isn't shit?

    • No.

But the Anbernic handheld devices are great emulation on the go in different form factors.

I've got my RG351V setup with everything from Atari 2600 up to PS1 and MAME (performance for PS1, MAME, N64 will depend on the game, but the newer models with faster chipsets can everything on PS1 and N64. MAME will always depend on the game)
