Good deal - got this 9 months ago for $245. Good solid cables from these guys.

Did it come with a carry case or do you just coil and put into a random box or bag?

      • Use your own bag/box. I have their 7m cable 👍

        • Is the 7m much more useful than the 5m? Im thinking that I might be too lazy to roll up an extra 2m and have the extra weight.

          • @nightqueen: I’ve got the 7m earlier this year. I haven’t had to use it yet.

There is the extra weight but my thought was that in some of the YouTube videos, shopping centres have their chargers located in a way that can be cumbersome to access with a 5m cable. A 7m will reach even with the designated space being blocked by a vehicle.

      • No bag, just comes in a box.
Mine rolls up nice into the cavity made by one of these boot dividers https://tessories.nz/product/model-3-boot-side-storage-exten…

    • Same, got mine from them for $207 when they had a discount code for world ev day :)
Struggling to get past https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814147 though, those cables are cheap as! 7kw for $91 for the single phase outlets such as zappis.

    • Do you use it much? Always been curious of the use case for these

      • I'm well served by shopping centre type 2 outlets near my place, so yeah I get good use from mine.

        • Oh cool, I'm in Vic and have only seen the BYO cable chargers at the shopping center next to IKEA in richmond. Wouldn't be surprised if they become more common though given the rampant copper theft

  • Thanks I was after a type 1 cable and the code worked as well.

  • Looking to get a 7kW (32Amp) portable charger for my BYD Atto 3 and my god it's confusing. Is there any real difference between these 2 as one is basically double the cost?

    https://evse.com.au/product/portable-ev-charger-32amp/
    https://inchargex.com.au/products/portable-ev-charger-32a-5p…

    • I can't see much difference other than the EVSE one is double the cost and has a lower IP rating (IP65 vs IP67). If it was me it's a no brainer, get the cheaper one.

The 5-Pin plugs onto 3-phase outlets (but only uses 1 phase so 2 of those pins are actually not used), where as the 3-Pin is a 32amp rated single phase outlet.

In the wild you will more commonly find the 3-phase with 5-pin sockets, single phase 32amp outlet arn't very common

      • 100% this.
I did not notice the EVSE one had the 3-pin plug selected by default, gross.

    • Smart charger or dumb charger, the control is likely to allow you to do timed charging and what amps. The byd allows you to set on the controller what time to start charging (good if you have a power supplier that has cheap tariffs after 12am) so the smart charging I don’t believe is a necessity. I’ve got a byd seal on order and was looking at this - INCHARGEx Portable EV Charger 32A Type 2 Adjustable 32amp 5 pin Tail Single Phase Universal Mobile EVSE Max Power 7kW 5m EV Home Charger Fit Tesla Model 3 Model Y BYD Atto 3 MG EV Level 2 Mennekes https://amzn.asia/d/e8uXBSX - it was only around the $250ish mark when it was in stock, unsure of quality tho

I just bought one from these guys last week for $230 :(

  • My car came with a standard GPO 10amp charger. Haven't charged yet as I only got the car on Tuesday. I generally plan on slow charging to extend the life of my battery. Should I buy one of these in case? Or are there enough public chargers out there with integrated cables?

Btw if you have seen already this video is great at explaining how to maximise lifespan of your battery if your like me and only do short trips most of the time:
    https://youtu.be/mUJ3iIKuHZg?si=nS4oj5A1SmkVTzOM

    In short:
    1. Slow charge
    2. Charge to a maximum of around 65%
    3. Drain to a minimum of around 40%
    4. Don't keep topping up, let it drain from 65% down to 40% even if it takes multiple trips to do so

I would follow the manual from your car manufacturer.

Yeah but they want your battery to wear out so they can sell you a new car 😉

If you have an EV with LFP chemistry this isn't the best course of action.

  • Can anyone vouch for these?

Not sure I'd be trusting charging of a $50K+ car to a cable off Ebay.
