I've been looking for a good electric toothbrush for a while after my Phillips DiamondClean died yet again (3rd one I've been through in 6 years… so I'm hoping Oral B will be better). More modes, better case (Smart Travel Case) and better Bluetooth tracking compared to the Smart 1 which I was about to purchase if this hadn't come up today.

The lowest price I could find from a competitor is $195, and even the dual pack for the 8000 from Shavershop for $189 that doesn't come with the smart cases ends up being $94.50 each.

      That's good to know, as i'm travelling overseas to Japan next year and do like the option to be able to charge. This doesn't impact most countries as most are 220-240v AC, but a few places, like Japan, Taiwan, US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and a few places in the pacific do use 100-127v AC

      The white benchtop charger that came with my 8000 (and wife's 9000) a few years is 240V only. The charging case that comes with the 8500 and 9000 is multi-voltage.

      The Genius 8500 is much better, it’s almost the top model.

        "much" better is questionable. It has a tilt sensor to attempt to track how long you spend brushing upper/lower teeth etc and other useless features that you will not use past day 2. The brush head is the same, the 'oscillations per second' is the same, battery life the same, charging station the same, handle shape the same, handle weight the same… does anything else really matter?

      I think the handles are very similar, but the 8500 comes with the charging case, and (I think) 3 brush heads instead of 2.

    I nearly gave up hope after checking stock online at all local stores and it showing none available, however decided to go check in store in Brisbane CBD and staff still had a few behind the counter, so worth checking in store if you are still after one of these (there was no stock on the shelf above the price tag, however in its place there was a sign to see staff at the front desk).

    I have been eying the 9000 refurb on eBay for a while after my 9000 died, and those were around $84.99 (second hand), so this is a great deal.

    Picked up the last one at Kwinana store and had to go to Leda to pick up a second. There was quite a few at Leda even though online says out of stock in WA. It's probably worth checking your local stock in store if you're keen on this.

    Picked up the last one from Fountain Gate (Princes Hwy store). When I called this morning the helpful staff member said that Hampton Park was showing two in stock. Was looking to buy the 9000 for $139 from Amazon so super happy to get the 8500 for much less.

    ATTENTION ALL USERS WHO MISSED OUT…This is a great little trick. I called my local Chemist Warehouse and asked them to let me know what stock was available in other stores Australia wide. They actually told me that each store has to have a minimum level of stock to appear as available "Click and Collect". If they only have one or two on the actual shelf, it won't display on the website as available in store. The guy told me he had two in stock on the shelf - and he put one on hold for me. So do yourself a favour and call the stores around you! I got mine at 1700 hrs today, 25th November.
