Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14.5" Laptop: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD $1798 + $7.95 Shipping @ Harvey Norman

210

A bit pricey compared to other ultrabook offerings but this variant of the Yoga 7 family really seems like a no compromise laptop.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS (8C / 16T, 3.8 / 5.1GHz, 8MB L2 / 16MB L3)
Graphics: Integrated AMD Radeon 780M Graphics
Memory: 32GB Soldered LPDDR5x-6400
Storage: 1TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0x4 NVMe
Display: 14.5" 2.5K (2560x1600) IPS 350nits Anti-glare, 100% sRGB, 90Hz, Eyesafe, Dolby Vision
Battery: Integrated 73Wh

Not only do AMD's new Phoenix APU's edge out the already great cpu and RDNA graphics on the previous Rembrandt gen, but they're fabricated on TSMC's 4nm. Window's Ultrabooks can now finally rival battery performance that Apple's M series chips debuted three years ago.

This high end Phoenix chip can rival M2 Max CPU performance. Definitely a consideration vs the 14 inch MacBook Pro at a much cheaper price.

Battery size, fast RAM, fast SSD and Display specs also seem great. I tested one in store and the Keyboard is great.

Perhaps the only shortfalls may be the slightly dim display and the Tidal Teal colour?

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

Thanks - I’ll check out that reddit

  • Weight 2.850000 ??? what unit?

  • Performance is competitive with MacBooks but battery life definitely still lags behind.

Taking the numbers in your linked review of 8.5W while watching YouTube on minimum brightness and 11.5 on max brightness gives us 8.6 and 6.3 hours of runtime respectively, which isn't great. A MacBook Pro 14 can easily manage double that.

    • Is a Macbook pro $1798?

      • but but Apple …

      • Need one of those graphs that shows awesomeness per watt. I'm certain Apple pulls ahead.

      • But do you replace you laptop every couple of years?

        • Actually yes, i returned a macbook pro 14 2021 model after 11 months when the screen died and got a full refund.

@mgexiled: Could have got a replacement and been happily ever after. I’ve owned maybe 4 Apple laptops in 20years and they’ve all been great, get a good resale on them, and always find a bit of a discount of the rrp through refurbished or GC discounts.

@Lululuke: I instead got a specd up windows PC with the refund money and have had a much better experience with it.

              • -2

@mgexiled: Because it hasn’t broken? I can’t imagine having a “better experience” with a PC. I’ve had to use them for work. Awful.

Do the actually state what browser/app they are using to watch the YouTube videos, because there can be a significant difference in battery usage between the browsers.

The Mac may provide better battery life due to optimisation of a specific browser. Would prefer a like for like comparison to be more accurate.

It should also be noted that this laptop supports USB4.

  • I don't understand the Dolby Vision certification. No doubt this gets gets included in the cost of the laptop, but it's an IPS panel? HDR on IPS panels is a joke.

    • There is an AMD version with an OLED panel of the Yoga Pro 7 14", where the Dolby Vision certification actually applies.

Ah the mythical Zen 4 with 32gb RAM and no dGPU finally appears in an ozbargain post, pity its at HN

The price of this laptop explains why. Ship an nvidialess laptop and you can't charge more than $2k.

Funny though how Lenovo's own store doesn't sell this model with 7840/32gb

Is this legit, the only pro's show up normally as 7735s

  • How does this compare to the Asus?
    ASUS VivoBook 15X R7-7730U, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, 15.6" FHD OLED HDR 600nits $1092

Are these really miles apart? Sorry in advance. I'm a noobie

The Asus will have a brighter and more vibrant display albeit 16:9 instead of 16:10 on the Lenovo which most people prefer, and also 1080p instead of 1440p on the Lenovo. So display is personal preference.

The Lenovo will have MUCH better CPU, GPU(gaming), ram and SSD performance and perhaps a better typing experience.

I doubt there'd be much of a difference in battery life but I'm not sure what the Asus WH is.

      • Very helpful. Thanks. I'm looking for something for a lot of web surfing, excel and streaming. This Lenovo might do me nicely. Cheers
