OzRRP much? What is this a deal post anyway?

      • +4

This is years after release and much more expensive than the various deals posted over the last 6 months.

        • +5

It was literally released for pre-order today. There hasn't been a deal before because it didn't exist.

Not defending buying it when the PS5 regular is cheaper (and likely better), just pointing out this came out today and is a new product.

          • @BradH13: this does have cooler computing (though hotter exhaust), easily replaceable disk drive and larger SSD.

but still not a deal at retail price.

            • @illogicalerror: cooler computing than the 2020/21 PS5 (with its 7nm chip) but identical to the 2022 (which also has the same 6nm chip in the Slim)

          • @BradH13: If we had a post for every new product or SKU, when it is listed at RRP and there is no reason to imagine stock will be limited…OzBargain really would just become OzRRP.

      • +18

You could buy the fat PS5 with a game for $679 last weekend though, and the slim will be at similar prices soon since it is cheaper to manufacture. Bad deal, designed to take advantage of people who don’t care about the price.

        • +4

They even went for $509 with a game, briefly

        • are we expecting the Slim to be discounted for Boxing day? given its not the Pro and just a Slim (same performance) surely they won't lock it at $799 for the first six months just b'coz it's technically the "newest" model?

          • @uinstitches: Don't expect any discounts for a while. It's not an accident it was released just before next Christmas.

      • Ye na, same people upvoting this rrp crap have the nerve to come on an Apple/Dyson 'deal' and trash it saying its overpriced.

      • That was years ago and when the only available stock was via scalpers.

Stock issues are gone now, preorders currently available everywhere for this model, and the existing PS5 has been way cheaper time and time again this year. Right now EB has a disc version at $699 with Spider-Man 2 included, and there may be better deals out there

    • This is what it has become my friend… Move on :)

  • The console doesn't sell out any longer, and there are actually measurable savings / deals to be had on them now. Is the slim demand anticipated to be that intense that they will sell out release?

  • +36

Anyone buying this at RRP should hand in their OzB license

    • Glad we have you here to audit our OzB cards.

  • +13

The normal ones were $650 with a game, how is this considered a deal at full price ??

    • This one now can fit in a 650 per week studio apartment. "slim".

  • +28

Fantastic news for me, if this is what passes as 'slim' now

  • +1

Any performance boost on this? Probably worth just getting the fat version.

    • +3

Apparently not according to LTT. Exact same hardware inside.
I think this is unusual considering the PS4 slim had a smaller nm chip than the standard, which although was the same performance, it ran cooler and was more efficient.

    • +3

If anything a decrease, worse thermals

    • 1tb vs 825gb on the fat model.
      so a storage upgrade there.

  • -3

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/ps5-playstation-5-console

It is better to get normal size PS5 with Spider Man game at $679 stacking with 10%/15% off gift cards.

    • +3

Those have been sold out for ages already

    • +1

The console that has been out of stock for at least 4 days and the gift cards that went sold out the first couple of hours after putting them on sale.

      Yeah……

    • Yes please I would like one of those if you have it? Or do you know where stock is of that ? Or are you still asleep and dreaming

  • +5

lol really you can pre order at ebgames too.. this is not a preorder website

  • +3

Amazon, JB, Big W, EB Games and The Gamesmen are all accepting pre orders

Just pre order elsewhere and use discounted gift cards

  • +8

Glad i got the ps5 game combo off ebay for $506 the other day.

    • Me too! Was tempted to wait for the slim but now I'm glad I didn't. Would rather save almost $300 and get a free game than a bit of space.

      • If you stand it up the bit of space significantly drops, in most people's cases there's no reason to get the slim over the fat other then looks, in terms of space it wouldn't be a deciding factor

      • or you could trade in your current fat PS5 + 3 PS5 +$299 for 1 PS5 slim through Ebgames lol

    • +2

      Now that's the deal.

    • Lucky. I've been kicking myself for days for missing that one.

  • +5

So now you need to pay for the stand? Passed

  • +1

It looks like it has an elastic band wrapped around it.

  • +7

    bloody stand for $50 bucks??

    FXXK SONY

  • +4

    HODL

Reports say that the PlayStation 5 Slim will be the same price but with a game bundle.

  • +1

I'd imagine if space is no issue, the original PS5 would be better at getting rid of heat under heavy load?

  • +9

This is just a simple cash-grab by Sony, specs are literally the exact same as the OG PS5, get that and save your money. Don't fall for this marketing BS

    • +1

To be fair, it's only marketed as being slimmer.

      It's a cost cutting measure.

    • +1

slimmer, bigger HDD, cooler chip (hotter exhaust), easily replaceable disk drive, larger SSD… but all that is around it being the same machine

    • The PSOne, PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim and PS4 Slim were all cash grabs too right? All happened about half way into their reletive generation. All provided about the same internals, just in a smaller package.

If you already have a PS5 phat, this is not a product for you and you can click away. If you are looking for a PS5, now you have a second option of a smaller device which will likely come down in price faster than the phat.

  • So after doing loads of googling I can say that I’m 98% sure that the new slimmer PS5 digital version can not be positioned horizontally and only the disc version can with its $2 stand supports

  • +1

How is this any better than the original apart from size?

    • 1TB instead of 825GB.

      • +1

Unless console size is a factor, but you can throw that $100 you’ll save getting the old model today towards and NVMe drive and get a good way to an additional 2TB.

  • +6

During peak covid the excuses for these “deals” was that scalpers were charging more than RRP and therefore some people (wrongly imo) consider paying RRP a deal.

Now a slightly larger version with the same internals can be had for less than RRP and this shit is still getting posted?

This isn’t a deal. Belongs in the forums.

    • +1

This isn’t a deal. Belongs in the forums bin.

      ftfy

  • +4

So, 30% smaller in size, but 30% higher in price

  • +2

    RRP not a deal

BTW, you can add disc drive to the digital edition?

    • +2

Yea, but only the new slim digital, not the OG one

  • Not a deal. Sick of seeing it. No one cares.

  • Link has a barely smaller PS5, where's the slim?

  • +2

Is it just me, the original version looks better to me, don’t like the protruding disc drive.

    • True I think so as well but curious on your positive vote despite your comment.
Same as the stand comment. I'm a little perplexed

  • +2

It should be cheaper as it costs less to produce than the regular PS5

    Just Sony being Sony

    • It is what it is… At least be happy there were some really awesome ps5 deals in recent weeks. Slim or Fat they'll perform more or less the same. Also be glad they didn't jack the prices in between similar to what all graphics cards manufactures did during high covid season which is still around the same figures

  • Would have to be crazy to get a slim at this price. Smaller build so cheaper to make and worse thermals for an extra cost. Also ask yourself will this really fit in many places the fat couldn't? The size difference is negligible especially if you want to stand it up then no point. Sad these are the new base models though.

  • No deal here

  • +1

If you have to get one when release, go with 15% GC and order with JBhifi perhaps.

    • Exactly what I did. I could have waited for a possible further Christmas/Boxing Day deal with a game (Spider-Man?), but then it cannot be opened on Christmas Day.

  • +1

And by the way, with the slim model, you will need to authenticate the blu-ray drive for first time boot and may affect down the line when PS5 are not longer supported! If I were you, I will be getting the OG PS5.

    https://videogames.si.com/news/ps5-slim-disc-drive-requires-…

  • TBH, I'd rather get the phat one before its discontinued (prob get it cheaper on sale too).

  • OzPreOrderRRP.

  • Nah

  • Why would anyone but this, just buy the original with a game for far less.
When the slim goes down to same price then consider it

  • +2

Why did the slim have to be so large and ugly? feels like a missed opportunity.

  • +1

    retail price not a deal

  • +4

RRP and no supply issues. Just an ad at this point.

  • +1

It seems not that "Slim", anything changed from last model?

    • +1
      1. Same power consumption.
      2. Removed the stand. It's now a separate accessory.
      3. Little bit quieter.
      4. Additional USB-C port in front.
      5. Removable disc drive.
      • +1

        Thx m8.
        Will definitely wait for PS6
