  • negging since we just saw recent discounts almost 50% off for the original version.
I was ok when the original version was posted when supplies were scarce but I am sure this won't be the case for the slim one.

  • +1

This isn’t slim, at least with previous generations they made it a lot smaller

    • 30% less volume compared to original according to the people online. PS5 in general still massive though.

      • the launch model was only 5% larger in volume than the Series X anyway. so at least the Slim is significantly smaller (in theory) than the Series X now which is the most attractive model of all time (imo)

  • Thanks OP, hoarded 100 for those sweet eBay profits… Oh wait it's not 2020 anymore

  • +1

Not a deal. Better options on PS5 available.

  • +1

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up

    • +1

Y'all act like you never seen oz rrp before
Jaws all on the floor like when Muzeeb took a zero out of a Dell monitor
Now started whoopin' op’s ass worse than before
like the world’s going to end if you don’t let your thoughts known (Arrrggh)

  • No disc drive included. Hard pass, even if it was $600.

Edit: Nvm, it does. Still the price is too much.

  • +1

    Strange times indeed!

I guess in a time when you need to pay US$10 for an MK fatality (which is basically a 20 seconds animation with no interaction), buying a device which is cheaper to produce and has worse themals for more $$$ is only normal.

  • Sorry to be a hater. But a new product selling for RRP (that is not scarce) does not belong here.

  • +2

if you are a level IV or V at EB you can upgrade to one for either $144 or $168 which is a pretty decent deal.

    • Where are you seeing this. It says $299 when trade in og ps5 and 3 games

      • the person sane level IV or V, offer it comes in emails

        • I must have chucked it in the trash and emptied it. Can't see it anymore. Anyway still not worth it

    • I think it’s a bit of a side grade really. That said, good to know and it may be worth spending the money if your system or controller has cosmetic wear or you want a new warranty.

I think EB will take controllers with drift with the idea being they’d test and renew it before resale, so possibly a way to offload an old controller too.

    • Why? All to play the same non-existent games… This generation has flopped and I don't recall ever there to be a console generation as bad as this.

By now there should be book shelves full of games but there just isn't.

Surely there has to be a pro version released soon…
I think they usually release a pro version before a slim.

  • +4

Still large, ugly and expensive. It's a shame.

Ofc it's just my opinion, yet Xbox or previous PS models are, hands down, more elegant and less intrusive in the room compared to this inflated design.

And - please correct me if I'm wrong - overall PS+ subsription is not as great value as Xbox Game Pass.

  • Wait, all the links to other places to preorder are the same price? So this is, by definition, not a deal?

  • benchmark is $505 spider man bundle

    • Bosch eBay ain't the standard though.
the $648.00 at Harvey Norman is.
      or the $655.95 at Amazon.
or the 592.61 in the 679 deal if you returned the Spiderman game to Amazon (+$7 change of mind fee)

  • i will buy PS 6

    • I will wait for the PS5 digital edition down to $300 😏

  • +5

It's still so fugly. This was their chance to fix it and they failed. Lol if they think they are retaining something positive by keeping this style.. it's doing brand damage

  • -1

People complained about the $680 phat bundle being too expensive for a 2020 launched console.

Now the same people are saying the bundle is a better option than the Slim release.

    Pick one.

    • Did you really check it's been the same people or are you putting all OzB users in the same basket and generalise just for the effect?

    • +1

I mean, both statements can be true.

  • yup, not a deal just normal release

  • +5

Ah, the gool ol' days of RRP PS5 posts

  • Off topic - but do you think there is still trade in value for a PS4 Pro these days or better to sell privately?

    • EB Games will give you like $70 for a pro, or sell on Facebook for more like $200.

  • +1

I'm not a fan of the new slim.

    No better performance

    No better thermals

It needs internet to authenticate the disc drive on first boot. No offline option.

And you need to pay extra for the stand now.

  • RRP and widely available = no deal

  • Will see if this goes on sale for boxingday

  • This looks incredibly overpriced considering how cheap the PS5 Original has been recently. Hate to see how much the Pro will launch at… especially as I know i'll absolutely grab one the second it's available.

    • I'll probably trade in my old PS5 to get the Pro. If you managed to grab one in the sales you only take a couple of hundred dollar hit on the depreciation. Not terrible if you want a pro.

  • Anyway to get this cheaper with cash back or promos at either retailer?

  • +4

$800 for a skinnier 3 year old console lol.

  • I suspect supply will still be an issue.

I just bought one in Japan for ¥60000 (~$600) disc version tax free in Bic Camera main store in Ikebukuro. They have 1 per customer limitation. I checked the Bic Camera in Shinjuku, no stock.

Originally I was planning to get it in Osaka as im heading there on Wed and will leave Japan from there. But I called their call center in Osaka, they have none in stock in entire Osaka.

If what happens in Japan can be said to other parts of the world, then perhaps we will have stock issues in Australia.

I understand the $679 with a game was a good deal, especially I have plenty of JB guft cards at 15% off. But they are out of stock. Nothing I can do about it. I thought of EB games, but not every store has stock, and they won't deliver for online purchase. Must click and collect. The closest one that has stock is a bit far from me.

So $600 for a slim is the best option I got. Being a true OzBargainer, I felt so bad. Why didn't I jump into the JB deal earlier. Now I have to pay RRP, albeit 10% off tax free, and much lower RRP than Australia, the feeling that I paid RRP made me disqualified as a true OzBer. My only solace is that I probably can't get my hands on one before Xmas, and the new slim is much more expensive and lower memory.

    • I think a Japanese market would be extremely different to western markets.. gaming is very big over there and western countries look for value rather than loyalty.

I think regardless no matter what was made it would sell out in Japan.

  • Smaller but same performance…

    • That is what she said.

      • Simply coming to neg. I didn't even read.

Can't see why RRP is a deal

  • I am here just for the comments

      • I will take two please. Thank you

        • +1

          three for me please:)

  • Only way to get a PS5 from retailers/non private sellers now in Australia at least before Christmas or later.

  • +1

2021 called. They'd like their bargains back.

  • Makes my $508 look good.

  • Negging because future availability to purchase an item does not make it a bargain.

  • Neg,ative

    Where is the bargain?

  • +3

bruh…why would anyony buy a same spec slim version for a much expensive price when you can literally buy a fat ps5 for less than $600 as long as you turn the bargain alert on

  • No deal!

  • $799 LOL OMG.. its the same 6nm chip using the same power but is 30% smaller.. :) Not worth the extra $$$

  • First negative vote… preorder for a 3 year old spec console at higher price… no deal.

  • +2

Smaller console, less materials to use for the manufacturer = cheaper for sony

Yet charges $200 more then current spec (based on recent sale prices)

    Yeh nah

  • Nice! I can pair this with the last of us part 1 ps5 cash grab

  • What's the deal exactly?

  • PS4 (2013) RRP $549
    PS4 Slim (2016) RRP $439
    PS5 (2020) RRP $749
    PS5 Slim (2023) RRP $799
    Hmmmm…

    • There was this step but

      PS5 (2022) RRP $799

The slims just kept the RRP where it’s been for a year now.

  • +2

Amazon US is actually discounting the PS5 slim Spider-Man 2 bundle by 11% (US$499). We can't get that deal here in Australia but it shows what's to come.

    https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Console-Marvels-Spider-Ma…

    • or whats not to come until years later lol or months later

  • Last one left at $679.20 with code BF22AU
