Xbox Series S 512GB + 3 Months Xbox Game pass ultimate subscription

Absolutely great deal but it comes with some caviats:

  • This is a UK model Xbox, so an adapter for plug or an Australian figure 8 power lead is necessary.

  • Ultimate game pass is also region locked which means you need an Xbox UK account to use it. (Note: Microsoft support could help you to convert that UK game pass to AU one. That could be an another option.)

  • Delivery times can be up to mid-January.

In short, this could be a nice deal for some who don't mind these issues. Alternatively, you can wait for possible boxing day / Christmas deals. It is up to you.

xbox s is on my watch list, discounts galore overseas in US & UK, but hasn't dipped sub $470 in AU yet, zero action on black friday.

Doesn't have a disc drive, worth mentioning. It looks like it should have one like the XBONES did. Also only has 512GB instead of the 1TB the Series X has. And that fast storage is required for Series games. Value proposition on the Series S is not so straight forward now that Series X is starting to go on sale a bit more.

      • What's the model with the disc drive?

I find it crazy to buy games digitally as you can't sell them on to recoup some of the cost…

        • +2

Series X is the only one with a disc drive.

PS5 took a different approach with two models identical except one doesn't have a disc drive, but the new slim PS5 discless model you can now attach a disc drive to it.

          Very weird generation this one.

          • @AustriaBargain: That's a fair price difference between the Series S and Series X…

            • +1

@AncientWisdom: Yeah. But when you factor in how much more expensive digital games are, and that you'll probably want at least another 512GB fast SSD card, it might be cheaper in the long run to get the Series X. If you only play Gamepass and don't mind deleting and redownloading Series games a lot, or if you only play EAFC or something, then Series S might be a better choice.

For playing backwards compatible games an external usb HDD will work. But for new Series games you'll need the internal fast SSD. And the only way to expand it is with authorised fast SSD expansion cards which aren't cheap.

@AustriaBargain: Sony make a smart move by introduce only 1 console, but can be use for either digital or with physical disc (with attached disc drive)

            • -1

@zipzap090: Yeah, BG3 not having split screen on Series S is proving that the S and X are not at parity and the same game really can't be developed for both.

I don’t mind digital only but the price should reflect it. They come up on steam for $15 and yet XB/PS are still $70+

That's true but this console is also good for some people, such as:

        • People who have already PS5 or a gaming pc
        • have heaps of MS points so they can get game pass for free every month
        • want to play just a few games, or free-2-play games
        • want to spend minimum amount of money
        • want to emulate old games

So there's a real market for that.

No need to be mucking around with a power adapter.

You'll only need to buy an Australian figure 8 power lead that's all. And plug is straight in when you get this console. $8.95 at Jaycar for it.

MS support are great you could likely get the 3 months GP added to an Australian account or converted if you ask them.

    • Wow, I didn't know this. Thanks mate. I will definitely try that.

      • I cant say for sure its 100% as its been probably 10 months since i did but had gamepass from Argentina transferred to an existing Australian account.
I think you may not even need MS support if you use the foreign gamepass trick in the forum, you may just need a VPN.
I did it a different time on another account with just a VPN, had a bit of trouble but finally worked using Nord VPN.

I remember couple years ago Xbox s is 199 from Amazon Black Friday 12 o clock deal…

  • I have surgery next week and this would have been good to keep me busy whilst I’m recovering for a few weeks, shame it won’t be here in time.

  • This is great for emulation on the dev account

meanwhile the real slim ps5 on the other side is selling for $799, lmao

  • Don’t worry about region locking. Just say you moved from the UK to Australia. They’ll sort it out easily.

Just as a personal anecdote, I bought a series X, thinking the disc drive would be great, buy physical, sell after. I've just not done it. Gamepass has so much stuff, and almost all the sales on digital /regional buying make the drive redundant for me.

Id still buy an X if you've the budget, but the posted deal is pretty damn good.

I have a series X, and if you like AAA games but don't buy on release the disc version is heaps cheaper.

Games like red dead redemption and cyber punk almost half the price to buy a disc version and you get some resell value. I saved almost a 100 bucks on just those two.

Most games I play however are gamepass.

  • Thanks wanted to play Forza &Starfield which are both included with game pass ultimate so I don't really need a disk drive. Will compliment the Ps5 nicely

    • As long as you're happy with 1440p gaming then it should be great.

  • Nice deal but the Series S has too many compromises vs. the X for me to recommend it. People should look up a few comparisons on youtube and see if the cuts to detail, framerate, resolution etc. is worth a couple hundred bucks over the 5+ year lifespan of a console. If last-gen is a guide the performance gap will get even worse in the next couple years.

That said the X just had ripper deals 600-650 which you would have to wait until boxing day probably which doesn't help if you need to put a present under the tree…

  • FYI - Price has gone up
